Announcement to any remaining oldfags here. We have all been hypothesising about why the board and even the site has gone to absolute dogshit lately. Some of you think its reddit, others think its raids done by discord servers from tumblr, /lgbt/, and even Jow Forums. While all those are true, they are not the main reason why specifically the last few years the site has turned into cancer.
My theory is that every few years, the bulk of the population of Jow Forums gradually leaves and gets replaced with newfags
2003-2006 oldfag dominated culture 2006-2009 newfags from all over the internet 2009-2013 reddit 2013-2016 newfags from all over the internet. I call this era "The Common Mans Jow Forums", because this was the time when regular everyday people and people who previously werent into the internet wo much started using the internet regularly. This was imo the most diverse, interesting era of Jow Forums as the diversity of the site ment that there was a competitive environment for ideas and no bias or line of thinking could gain dominance over others. 2016-2017 electionfags and politics. Reddit, facebook, twitter, tumblr all invaded. This brought a lot of zoomers, literal boomers and all kinds of people who have nothing to do with Jow Forums and would never have gone here if it wasnt for Jow Forums. This was a big blow to the site as many local board cultures were smothered and destroyed under the Jow Forums onslaught, leading to an exodus of good posters already. 2017-2018 discord. This is when people who found out about Jow Forums through discord started coming. Includes a lot of people who otherwise would have never gone on Jow Forums 2018-onward Zoomers, mainly through discord again.
So the answer is its Zoomers and electionfags. If you pay close attention you'll see that the dumbing down of this site and it becoming pure cancer even more than it used to be started halfway through 2017, because thats when the zoomers started pouring in, and now they have cemented control over Jow Forums already.
This seems like the end of it desu. Zoomers are turning this site into anonymous facebook, or even a youtube comments section. We might even see hiro trying to turn this into a similar social media site with accounts and PMs like reddit.

I dont know honestly. The politicisation and corporatizing (yes i made that word up) of the internet has made any resistance against the invasion of politics, normans and zoomers into literally everything an uphill battle. I'm not sure what we can do other than basically running away to other sites hoping that they dont become cancer as well.
Another, less obvious, problem is that the same people who made up the better eras of Jow Forums were probably never really "true robots", but just people going through a phase in their youth. Most good posters unfortunately grow out of Jow Forums and become normal people. I'd guess the average person spends maybe 2-4 years on Jow Forums before moving on.
So a lot of our old internet friends have moved on, they're now other people. How do you bring back people that are already gone? How do you bring back an era if the building blocks are gone?

No, imo it was a calm between storms. You have to remember that era was smack dab in the middle between the reddit invasion and the politics and discord invasion. Reddit had already plundered this site and destroyed it for the most part, 2013-2016 was like a rebuilt kingdom. Of course its never going to be the same as before, but it was the best we have had since reddit destroyed this place.

A) It gets literally no replies (most likely) B) It gets some replies but dies quickly C) It gets derailed and a couple people argue over some of the meme subjects of this board and Jow Forums
Its very rare to have a thread get replies when its not cancer. I still keep trying but i dont think it will change much.

Actually it takes very few individuals to change the nature of a board like Jow Forums, there's only a few thousand active users. One guy can easily make a big difference.

Jow Forums has always been Jow Forums, but I think hasn't leaked so much to the other boards lately. There is much less racebaiting and other stupid shit on Jow Forums for example than there used to be year ago

If you actually believe the website went to shit just because of the elections then you need to leave, this site started going to shit around 2012 and has been shit since 2014. Right now, it's really unusable and if you have any self-respect you should leave to better options or at least browse Jow Forums less regularly. It's not going to get better and it's all downhill from here.

Not all threads are questions, infact i'd day most threads are not. Most threads are made for the purpose of discussing a certain subject. Why do you think that a long discussion has to be about personalities? What an absurd statement. The average discussion will have around 5-10 replies or so, if you say that a thread with 5 replies is enough then ironically you'd actually be supporting personalities being discussed as those threads would only have two people going back and forth, instead of a thread where multiple people are discussing things with eachother.

I've been here around the time #fortune was added so around 2007. The demographic is getting older and spending hours writing intricate shitposts gets boring and less rewarding. People complained about generals when they became mainstream. They removed a lot of spontaneity from boards since generals are restricted shitposting chambers.

I started posting in 2009 and Jow Forums is still fine to me, I still enjoy it as much as on the first day.
