I had the same experience but it was before smartphones and internet usage was so ubiquitous. I was an early adopter of the internet on dial up and had a computer and was just utterly hooked on it. I tried to limit my usage but it always resulted in me going right back because I have a horrible inability to control addiction. Finally I just decided to say fuck it and just never go on the computer again. For a year or so I was the happiest I had been in my entire life. I don't think I could do this again not because _I_ couldn't do it but because everyone around me now is like I was back then except it's with smartphones instead of a computer. Everyone's head is buried in a phone all the time and it's vital to use to keep in contact. I can't just decide to stop using technology anymore and join the real world again at least not like I could before everyone connected via smartphone.
