What a thread you've made. Another classic advice thread on Jow Forums!

Yes

deadlifts are dog shit for back development

I do deads and rows exclusively. I havent done pullups in probably a year

Deadlift if you wanna be 50 with acouple slipped disks and a cranky back, maybe some arthritis thrown in there

Pull-ups if you want to keep your gains and natural spinal curve

It shows too, you have no width/ lat development

This:

Post your back

Rows are based as fuck, I would attribute your back growth to rows more than conventional deadlift. Clean/snatch variations will get your back juicy as fuck, tho.

so that's a "yes" to OP's question in case anyone was wondering
tho to be fair i think rows are pretty good for lat development at least

Post back

Deadlifts wont do much except for Traps and spinal erectors.

Pullups won't hit the entire back either. Bare minimum you need a combination of rows and vertical pulls.

deadlifts are overrated for bodybuilding
if you cut them out you still need to work spinal erectors so do heavy bent over rows too

Deadlifts aren't necesary at all for bodybuilding imo. I think they're just a good tool to learn how to safely handle big weights during rows and shit.

These are your fellow posters on Jow Forums, these are the people giving you advice on the internet

Do both. Pull ups and weighted chin-ups will give you a god-tier back, that's for sure.

> Are pull-ups/chin-ups better than deadlifts for building a bigger back?

No, deadlifts are GOAT for building thick backs.

However, if you want bigger muscles you ought do for volume training (like Russian Bear program by Pavel), which most peoples skip when it comes to deadlift. On the other hand, chin-ups are usually done for very high volume, so it gets more fame as best back builder.

Why would you intentionally limit your strength, aesthetics and growth by not doing both?

Wtf is up with these posts, everyone is proud of looking like shit here

pls post back and body

We back posters are just saying we practice what we preach and don't look DYEL. No one here has claimed they look great

Short answer you need both. There's more to back than lats, deadlift will work your lower, mid, and upper back giving you that thick look front to back and between your shoulder blades. Pull-ups/chin-ups will help make your back wider side to side. You need both if you want to be absolutely turtle shelled.

It's called don't lift like a caveman in heat. Calm down and lift slow and controlled. If you're not yanking the bar in some deranged attempt to out alpha everyone in the gym you're no more likely to injure yourself with deadlift than with any other movement.

In the long run, pullups, rows and low back work will give you the same gains as deadlifts.
The benefit of the deadlift is simply that you can basically hit all of the muscles at once.
Tbh still looks better than 90% of people

Post your back

How do you guys take pictures of your back i cant get full width or flex because im holding the damn camera. Any way cleans deadlifts and rows are what i mainly do for back and ive been satisfied with the results

Wont change the comment he made dude.

Set your phone camera on a 5-10 sec timer ez

Take a video, then use screenshots from video. It is what I do for any pic of myself.

(helpful tip, most should know this, but when video is paused, clicking anywhere but the play button will make hide the triangle.)

This. You literally don't need to do deads. And you probably shouldn't unless you're a powerlifter

theyre the same except chins use your biceps more. that basically makes chin ups more effective if you had to choose one. do both if you can tho.

pullups might make your back look bigger because of the width but you will be missing crucial points like the mid/upper traps which is necessary for any complete back development. if i had to just choose two exercises for back theyd be barbell rows and pullups. thatll take care of most of it.

Actually pull ups are great for the lower and mid traps. They are not good for upper traps. They also do nothing for posterior delts or lower back.

I like your hair man

Deadlifts are a full body exercise obviously they're not going to be better at developing the back than an exercise that specifically targets the back. This doesn't mean you shouldn't do deadlifts. The brainlets on this site baka.

People in need of advice won't understand what's wrong with bad advice user, so if you're making a comment like that, at least explain why.
