I bought a harness and started doing all that shit. My neck is stiff pretty much constantly now and hurts when I tilt my head back. I also gave myself permanent Tinnitus.

on an unrelated note i went exceptionally hard 2 days ago (19 inch neck mind you) and i had horrible vertigo and nausea all night, thought i really fucked something up big time

I've been doing weighted neck raises because I understand the importance of a wide neck but holy crap how does he move his head.
Do you guys do side neck exercises (can't think of the right term). Right now I'm just doing front neck 'curls' and shrugs for the rear portion of the neck
this is why you stretch your neck beforehand and start light (eg a 5lb pl8)
I do neck exercises, but that's mainly to fix some of the neck issues I have. I just put some low weight on my head and do flexions, extensions, lateral raises and rotations with high reps, usually from 12 to 20 before I raise weight. Currently doing 10 kg with 3 sets of 20 reps on extension and flexion, 3 sets of 20 reps with 5 kg on lateral raises, and I do 3 sets of 20 reps on rotation, just hold my hand against my face. Works decently, but I do it ridiculously carefully.
