Rye is grown where soil isn't rich enough to grow wheat. Rye is less nutritious than wheat. Wholegrain wheat or Spelt loaves are where you want to be for nutrition. Ideally a loaf made of many different flours actually.

Humans aren't meant to subsist on grains. The west has gotten progressively fatter the more we eat cheap low-glycemic-index processed carbs. Whole grain is a meme: it's not a whole grain anymore once it was ground into a flour. It's "from whole grain."
Eat low glycemic index and spare sweet foods (fructose laiden things are lower on the glycemic index but only because fructose can only be stored in the liver: no bueno).
The upshot of all this is that if you get things right most of the days of the week you can eat your bread and pizza and jack-n-cokes 1 day out of the week or every other week and your body can take it. Most of the time whole fibrous plants & meat is your staple.

In what way is jam nutritionally worthless? I am currently bulking and in order to get in as many carbs as i need in a day i use bread with strawberry jam because its really tasty and has lots of carbs. Is this bad? I do eat a balanced diet with veggies, meats and so on and other sources of carbs such as rice, pasta, potatoes, oats
