pull/chin-ups in a superset with push ups have been my only upperbody workout for 2 years now.

Attached: smuglizard.png (600x515, 63K)

Should I tie a weight around my belly?

I do 3 sets of chin ups every workout
Just hit 3x10 so I'm adding 10lb tomorrow

>Doing assisted pullups, because I'm a 100 kilo fat fuck
>Down to just 20 kilo assisted weight from 40
>and I lost 5kg

start doing negatives

Is it better? I was just planning on gradually reducing weight down to nothing over the next two weeks. Doing 5 sets of 5 reps btw. Will negatives speed it up, or should I just throw them in as an additional exercise?

Doing 5x5 at 207lbs bodyweight + 45lbs

LET'S GET THIS MF BREAD

post results pls

>doing pull-ups and push-ups on same day
yikes

Nothing special, but reasonably built. Compared to your average lifter, I lack in bicep and chest, but my traps and lats are significantly bigger. Bigger pecs and biceps would be useless for me anyway though. The problem is that I am close to outlifting my weights (up to 25kg in 2 backpacks, hav reached 22kg).
If you are really interested in this, my routine is:
>8-10x8 chin/pull up with varying grips (usually 2x4 variations)
>8x10-12 push ups
It follows the concept of german volume training, which makes a lot of sense for body weight stuff. I do this 3 times a week and while bulking I do a warm up set, followed by 4 weighted sets (2 pull, 2 chin) of 5 reps and followed by another 4 sets with low weight.
That said, if I could I would swap half of the push up sets for dips, because they hit you harder, but I can't do them at home...

Negatives are much better because they train your core the same way pull ups do. Assisted pull ups hardly account for core at all

I'm gonna try a pull up tomorrow. +80kg cause I am unnaturally weak and trying to lose weight at the moment so I have zero strength.

>pullup with +80kg
>I am unnaturally weak

What did he mean by this

Attached: 2DCC2417-BBB0-4B34-A407-C72A15FB6DE9.png (750x1334, 1.67M)

Stupid question. But what's the difference between a chinup and a pullup

Sorry I meant with the assisted weight. I'll add 80kg to counter my bodyweight.

>remember it's not a pullup til the bar touches your chest

Already did 20 this morning.

I started doing weighted chin ups recently, shit is so cash

what am i suppose to pull up on??

Attached: 1494218335245.png (612x491, 98K)

Is this real? Is there some progression I can follow to make it more fun to do pullups?

Attached: pullupprogrssions.png (860x270, 14K)

How many pull ups should you be able to do in a single set before you've "made it"

Well, most men can only do 1. But if you are fit, and can do 20, then you will blow people away with "how strong" you are. But I don't think 20 unweighted is a lot desu - but a good baseline

any sucka in yo hood looks like he deserve it

ok

Attached: 1494466832484.png (657x527, 118K)

>Can't do 8x3 unweighted
>Can do 6x3 with +15%BW

WTF is this shit?

Honestly depends on your body type.
Climbers (ottermode with popeye arms) should be able to bust out a shiload but if you're full bloatmaxx powerlifter mode 5-10 good ones is a big accomplishment.

keep it real out there lil homie god bless and stay woke

If you're not doing weighted pull ups, why even bother.

same
>Can barely do 15 unweighted
>Can do 8 +25% bodyweight

I'm not really a pull-up kind of guy. I don't want people to look at me and think "This guys does pull-ups", you know?

yeah. Because when people look at you, they think: "this guy sucks cocks".

A chin up uses a supine grip you stupid fuck

he dindu nuffin

being born a nigger is a crime in itself.

Excellent. Keep doing them every workout/3x a week. Drop down to 3x5 and add 2.5 lbs every 2nd workout. This technique got me to 45 lbs

how can i replicate without any special things?

A bar and rope cunt

>tfw got my weight belt back so don't have to hold a dumbbell in my feet anymore

Attached: 1544521152410.jpg (1024x759, 70K)

This, same method and same results in 4 months (I was already doing unweighted 3x10 just like you). Except I do them 1-2x/wk on OHP day and do 1xF unweighted when I'm done

how do i into pull ups?

Attached: 1531666234570.jpg (630x630, 46K)

Do

theyre 20 bucks

should I do pullups, chinups, or both? any real difference?

Not an effective exercise or what's the problem?

You should do both. They mostly overlap but work your lats/biceps slightly differently.

Shame what passes for a nigger these days.

do towel pullups

it really doesn't matter, pick what feels comfortable on your wrist and shoulder. The difference between chinups/pullups is negligible, don't fall for broscience.

Based

i literally do pull ups first and last thing every workout and its gotten to the point where i might need to change gyms because people wont leave me alone for being "the pull up guy"

you're supposed to hold a dumbell between every 2 toes, largest weight for your big toe and smaller as you go down, like a 21/2 lb is good for pinky toes for instance dont feel bad. pinky toes is like overhand press its hard at first.

Very rarely can people immediately do pull ups, so yes, you need to build up to it and that progression table is very real and will work

i might be some fucking retard, but

>start going to the gym, can't even do a fucking pullup
>start doing assisted pullups
>get abdominal DOMS (core DOMS from squats)
>progress very slowly, while reducing the assisting weight
>try doing pullups without the assisting
>actually able to do more without the assistance

how?

Used to be a firm believer in chin-ups over pull-ups (and lat pulldowns as being the worst exercise of the three).

Mostly because chin-ups engage more muscles, allowing you to pull more weight = more efficient exercise.

But now I'm actually starting to think the exact opposite.

YMMV, of course, but I find that I can't activate my lats as well when I'm doing chin-ups. My biceps try to take over every step of the way and I usually just end up feeling like I've done some heavy ass curls with some lats assistance.

I was also stuck at 20 lbs added 3x8 for more than 6 months.

So now I'm trying the exact opposite approach.
Trying to keep my biceps out of the equation altogether, using a wide grip, strict form lat pulldowns. And I gotta say, it seems to be working. I know muscle soreness isn't a good indicator for progress/growth, but damn, I can really feel my lats now after a session. I never felt it before doing chin-ups.

Sorry brah, I’m not a pullup kind of guy

I used to get the same feeling, until I widened my grip with chin ups. (I use nuetral grip though) Since widening I feel it noticably more in my lats.

I fucking love climbing rope.

>want to do pull ups but I'm so shit at them I'm embarrassed to do so.

My lifts are shit and i don't give a fuck about that. It's only pulls ups I'm ashamed of.

so few people actually have pull ups on their schedule, let alone wieghted. Kinda depends on how much you weight. I am at 78kg and i do 5x5 with 25kg after 5 months of training. If you cant do pull ups right away do assisted pull-up until you can.

I'm 81kg and i can't do 1 pull up with chest touching bar. I can do 3 sets of 5 chin ups, i fail the 4th.

fuck chins, do assited at 75kg until you can do 80, if you can do 80 do normal pull ups

When i do back i do wide grip chinups, close grip chinups, and pullups. Along wit DADlifts ofc and bent over barbell rows

Am I getting memed or are you guys all touching chest every rep?

I'll give it a crack tomorrow. Thanks user

hang towel from bar

Unironically you want to do a pull up all the way to your chest
To test if it's even possible. Take a bar and see if you're flexible enough to even do it. If not, then work on your stretches til you can.

negatives dont do shit for me. im just doing lat pulldowns until i reach bodyweight for reps

>Can do 8-10 in a row in one set at the end of my meagre workout
>lanklet skelly
>can do like 3 sets of 4 or 5
How is this stronger than the average man?

>joe cartoon
I remember my dad showing me this site when I was 5 or 6. Does anyone else remember it? Like gerbil in a light socket, or "lick the toad"? That site is probably why I ended up here

But I'm too tall and my basement ceiling is too low :(

Most people don't do pullups.

Also you're probably scrawny compared to the average person. Bodyweight movements favour that to a point

20 is a lot, usually for bodyweight exercises when you can do 10-12 is when you add weight so i would say that is the baseline

i have good fat distribution and look stronger than i am, and can only do 5 pull ups i still do them but it's shameful

6'4 175lbs
You tell me
I'd also like to point out that I'm sick of clicking store fronts, you fucking gook. Give us back the old site

You know hiroshimoot sold Jow Forums, right? A Russian dude owns it now

Jesus is this true? I've literally not once in my life been able to do less than 5. Hell maybe even 10.

Attached: 1534516047084.jpg (822x903, 410K)

doesn't your gym have an assisted pullup machine? Git gud at that and move up to regular pullups.

Do lat pulldowns work all of the same muscles as pullups? Because when I was bad at pullups, lat pulldowns never translated into being able to do pullups.

>lat pulldowns never translated into being able to do pullups.
Yup. That is how it is

When I finish my morning coffee, I'm going to hit the gym and do weighted pullups.

Attached: 1537814315100.png (1152x514, 51K)

I did some pullup program I found on the internet and worked my way up from around 7 to 15 in 4 weeks. Don't know what the fuck to do now, only have some dumbbells at home. What do?

Keep the db's between your legs.

how to everyone on this board so bad at pullups. I'm still dyel mode and I'm on +20kg

buy a weight belt

Or, if you have at least 12' of rope lying around, you can tie yourself a Swiss seat (youtube.com/watch?v=zH9F09Dr3lU) but instead of a square not at the end, tie the running ends off on a bowline onto your dumbell.

Does anybody of you can do the legendary one arm chin up?

>start doing pullups in earnest in September
>use the Marine pull up program marines.mil/Portals/59/Docs/PullupTrainingGuide.pdf
>go from only three or four dead-hang pullups to 12 at the beginning of December
>pullup bar breaks December 3
>new one just arrived at the house today
>can only do 7

Why the fuck did I lose my gains so fast? Is bodyweight stuff really that sensitive to a couple weeks off?

Attached: 1522581774945.png (540x336, 107K)

I went to marine Corps boot camp doing 11 and left doing 18. Do them all day every day nonstop forever until you die.

Yeah, the chart says I should be ripping out 50+ a day, but I thought I would at least maintain my number with the gym.

At least it'll encourage me to stay regular with it, if it decays so fast.
