Not really. I haven't decided if I'll just stay in for 20 years or not yet, but if I do the benefits are amazing. I joined at 19, so if I do I can be retired with full benefits before I'm 40. By the time the final PFT came around, I was doing 13 pull ups, 130+ crunches, and 24 min three miles. I still have a ways to go because l want a 1st Class PFT, but it's looking possible. Don't join any branch unless it is the Air Force or Coast Guard. In all branches you will be embracing the suck and getting used a lot. But the Muhrines and Army it is even worse. Navy can be ok depending on what job you get.

Overall if you do want to join, get the fuck out as soon as your first enlistment is up. Which is what I intend to do in 4 more years. I've been fucked a few times now, and have seen guys get fucked way worse. I know a guy who threw his back out in the service and got fuck all disability. He literally can't walk upright it is so bad and he isn't getting a dime for it. I know another guy who had a TSgts' wife force herself on him, and even though he refused she ratted on him and he lost a stripe and wasn't allowed to re-enlist.

Its a giant system that draws you in with benefits, but promptly takes away those benefits even when you did nothing wrong. YOU WILL get in trouble at least a couple times while in. Not even because you did something wrong, 9/10 if you happen to know a guy that fucked up it'll come back to you somehow because that is just how it works.

There is a reason re-enlistment rates for all branches are abysmal. Get in, get your school out of the way, stay the fuck away from military girls because they'll get you in trouble, then get the fuck out.

There's a waiver for everything and you've never needed to be a citizen for enlist. there's plenty that even get citizenship as part of their enlistment bonus. They had citizenship oath ceremonies during bootcamp.
