They're supposed to simulate high altitude training with less oxygen in the air but the reality is they don't do that, they just limit the quantity of air not the quality making them useless.

Yeah I've climbed Everest and these stupid masks don't simulate being at altitude very well at all. Also feels like breathing through a straw, which is annoying as shit.

If you want to simulate altitude at sea level, an altitude tent is probably your better bet
