What martial arts do you guys consider best for developing strength and living longer
Did judo for a while and stopped. Considering doing it again since weightlifting made me lose flexibility whereas judo made me very strong, flexible, and more than anything the crazy north korean sensei made me push several miles past my pain barriers.

judo is the real fucking deal, but you have to find a solid dojo that doesn't fuck around
Recovery is important too.

started judo a few weeks ago, its a really humbling how many muscles you neglect and undertrain in conventional weight lifting. Honestly the combination of strength, mobility and endurance makes it seems more beneficial than any workout I've ever done.
>tfw hamstring day
Jiu-jutsu has done wonders for me. Not only has it made me more flexible and stronger, but I learned how to fight as well.
This guy is so funny.
Fuck fartial farts. Just a couple of fags farting on each other until they both reach climax and then they stand up and bow to each other like chinks.
Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Boxing are the best.
The rest are dogshit without cross training in one of the above.
>Jiu-jitsu
>how to fight
ehhh...
>>Jiu-jitsu
>>how to fight
>ehhh...
This, don't try some sweep on the ground in the street, niggas be crazy
To be fair, if you find yourself on the bottom in a street fight, the most important thing you can know is how to sweep
I'm about to fall a sweep listening to your gay argument.
>Jiu-jitsu
>how to fight
>ehhh...
At least explain the reason for your opinion and why you disagree instead of this gay ass shitpost. Jiu-jutsu taught me the basics of fighting and grappling, and my breakfalls have improved vastly after just one month.
Ahahah. Your word play is so clever. That was a great choke.
I do karate cause my friend's parents own a dojo and let me train there. Pretty good work out what with padstrikes and kickboxing/sparring
I've been doing boxing for 10 months and I recently found out there was a place that teaches freestyle wrestling and I'm very interested
what should I expect in wrestling i heard conditioning is tough but I honestly have no idea how tough it is what conditioning exercises do you guys recommend for a beginner
Most Jiu Jitsu's stand up is piss-poor. really really bad. When I was a noob in Judo I mogged in stand up coloured belts in Jiu Jitsu quite easily, of course once we got on the ground I got mauled.
Basically the hate on Jiu Jitsu for self defence is that it's poor at standup, but good on the ground. In a fight if you get to the ground (bottom) in a street fight you basically almost already lost. It's not a safe position.
Granted, it's not worthless, it does help. It's just not the best.
I would disagree, primarily in wrestling and a little bit in judo is not 'working' your way up like in bjj but to more explode up,
Great, that's what I wanted to read. I actually totally agree, being on the ground is totally useless in a street fight, which is why I put emphasis on my breakfalls being improved. Every time we have to train groundfighting, I feel my time being wasted. But other than that, I can recover much faster from being knocked down now.
Yeah breakfalls are a huge bonus, I spent the first few months of Judo just mainly learning breakfalls and although they are not perfect, they are pretty good. I always feel safe falling. Best thing I ever learned in martial arts so far.
Holy shit Ono did mongolian wrestling?? Any clips??
Judo (and I believe wrestling as well) ingraines the bad habit of turning to your stomach when on the bottom. Is this ideal and the spirit of these systems? Of course not, just like butt scooting is not in the spirit o bjj.
I say these things as a former judo coach with some bjj experience.
I have this fuckin annoying ass training Judo partner who everytime it gets to newaza he just turtles up. He trains literally no newaza and his own technique is to be a tight turtle all the time it goes to the floor. Pisses me off lol
Realistically any grip fighting, so Judo, wrestling, sambo etc.. BJJ is for wuss.
boooooooiiii if you dont include Muay Thai youre fucking up
perhaps the most absurd thing ever about the martial arts is the propensity for middle and upper class suburban teenagers and young men to worry about what SPORT is best for a scenario they are extremely unlikely to ever be in in their adult lives, let alone encounter with such regularity that it should actually be on the mind. Fucking nerds, you're more likely to get bitten by a chihuahua than you are to get into a "street fight"
Then there is the even bigger retarded nerdism of splitting hairs about whats going to really happen in this mythical scenario.
Jesus christ retards, theres one of two things that will actually happen: this "street fight" is some drunk guy getting mad at you and taking a swing, in which case some basic awareness + any amount of training in a competitive sport will put you at a massive advantage over him, or its an actual street fight, which means multiple assailants, which means realistically your only sane option is to run before you get stabbed or overwhelmed.
pick a SPORT because it is FUN and you ENJOY it. Everything else is ridiculous fantasy larping.
let us live our fantasys bro
Judo is a great choice. Any grapling is great for strength. But whatever you chose, just remember to find a gym that focus much on sparring. That's where most gains come from.
If you are afraid of innjuries, consider BJJ instead of Judo.

I found a BJJ place close by, that also focuses on Judo, Wrestling, and MMA. I want to join, but I’m dyel with shit Cardio because of my asthma. On top of that I have a fungus toenail, so shit sucks. What should I focus while I’m trying to get rid of it? And also any tips on getting rid of this shit?
Ask your doctor, not us. As for training. Cover that shit in sports tape.
Exactly, I wish there were good martial arts threads on /fit but it always ends up as my martial art > your martial art.
All I want is comfy threads, is that so much to ask?
RIP /mag/ and /csg/
It's the same as having a gun in your house. Probability of getting ur house robbed is pretty fucking low unless ur in a ghetto or something. But it's nice knowing you can defend your self if it's needed
>everyone on Jow Forums is upper-middle class living in a nice gated community
Calm down you posh fuckboy
Martial arts are for sissies.
If you can't overpower everyone with brute force alone, get fucked.
Or like having a fire extinguisher. Usually it’s useless, but when you need it, you really fucking need it.
>Lifting weights translates into fighting skills
Good luck trying to deadlift someone that's chopping down your legs with low kicks.
Good luck trying to bench press someone half your size of you while he is tying your arms into a knot.
Wrestling is the conditioning. Grappling with another human being, especially in the way that you do in wrestling, is one of the most exhausting things you can do. A few days ago, at practice, we went live for 10 minutes straight. My lungs were no longer on this plane of existence. It is definitely very tough.
Because weight classes don’t exist in martial arts.
Not completely wrong, but at least social circles I am in we fight a lot because we're not pussies.
I really love wrestling. I wake up with my entire body sore, including parts that I wouldn't expect. Every wrestler I've met has been really strong and (in most weight classes) fairly lean, some of them insanely so. It's really hard and humbling, but that makes winning a thousand times better.
You can learn a lot of good things from wrestling.
I wanted to do Judo but fuck classes. I go to gym when ever I want, keeping schedule would waste my time
Be aware that kind of honor culture behavior will get you killed in a dignity culture.
you'll be in the best shape of your life when you wrestle and take it seriously, collegiate or freestyle it doesn't matter.
Between fighters at a professional level of skill. There are dozens of vids and stories about bodybuilders getting their shit kicked in or even killed, like that Russian bodybuilder who decided to fight an mma dude, or the BJJ one. There’s a video of the BJJ one on YouTube I think
not sure who this is, but if you think high level wrestlers are weak people, you couldn't be more wrong.
Looks like a young Bruce Baumgartner to me.
Not during training. And yes. size and strength obviously matters, but only if there isn't to much of a difference in skill. A top level power lifter without any combat training would get his shit kicked in by a person half his size with combat training.
Don't believe me? Go to your local dojo and ask them to spar.
Freestyle wrestling in high school, I was 30 lbs under my natural weight, I don't think I was in too great of shape but I have to say it does discipline you.
Modern versions of jiu jitsu are (full contact) karate and judo with a better ground game. But I agree most is piss poor, you really need to have a good dojo. Find one where at least: a) people spar and b) competition is encouraged.
Better yet, find a club where they give judo and jujitsu. That is where I train, I like that combination.
did you guys have to do bridal carries up and down stairs for like 30 minutes? i'm an old fag so coach still had us wearing plastic sweat suits and shit.
plus you have to figure you know how to use your weight infinitely better than someone without any training.
I have. I kneed some blue belt bjj kid in the face when he shot my legs and broke his jaw. I didn’t even hit him that hard. It was just a flinch response.
Dig a knee between his shoulders and choke. Or make a leg lock, they are completely defenceless when they do this.
Nah when we did stair carries they were on our backs Yoda style, was p fun except I was with my buddy who was a good 20lbs heavier than me.
I actually work in a Taekwondo school as their front desk grunt/salesman. When I first started here I thought it was all bull shit, but now that I've started taking classes it's good conditioning (I usually hate cardio) and I like the quick everything is. The kicks aren't as powerful as Muay thai but, there's a lot of emphasis on countering fast and getting the fuck out of striking range which is difficult to pull off correctly but can be very useful.
But there are definite holes in tkd, I do boxing drills all the time to train my hands. Also I need to pick up bjj/wrestling/judo to have a balanced game.
In sparring we very rarely put people with big size differences together, even if they’re of vastly different skill levels.
I like karate because once you learn to do kata, you can do them anytime, everywhere and get a good workout.
We do it all the time. Obviously we mostly go with people of same size/skill level but out the the 30 - 40 minutes of sparring that we do, 5-10 of those minutes are usually with someone smaller/weaker just because don't want to only fight the same people. Hell. I'm 194cm 105kg and I've sparred with 12 year old girls, both striking and grapling.
You’re a based boomer or insular nigga if you think your not going to meet another drunk retard that doesn’t do sport. And fighting is more common depending on what social groups your in.
His favorite move
is this a gay porn?
what's with those outfits
It's Mongolian Wrestling.
hahaha that's so gay
do fags usually go with the gay jokes because they are insecure and know they'd get handled like little children?
I’m sure your story about you winning a fight is completely true and accurate
Weird, I’ve sparred with people much heavier than me all the time. How fucking big is your dojo if you can seperate on weight class and still have a variety of partners
An oldie but goodie.
Kyokushin karate + judo is god tier self defense.
So uchi mata
His legs look powerful.
Sakuraba is a fucking legend.
Unless you fight for sport stick to grappling. Self defense is gun or nothing.
what did i say that made you reply with that? i'm clearly promoting the sport.
>Or make a leg lock,
Not the user you wrote to, but we could be frend.
wtf, skip to 4:58. Really cool.
How many people have moves or positions named after them?
- Imanari roll
- Kimura
- Gable Grip
Anything else?
Kek.
Renzo Gracie vs Kazushi Sakuraba was a great fight. It was on its way to ending as a draw, but he pulled that kimura out of nowhere. From a BJJ position-before-submission mindset, it was unthinkable that someone would setup a submission while their back was taken, but Sakuraba was tricky like that.

> He was so feared that after his World Championship Medal in 1971 that he won in Russia, the Soviets said they were going to comb the USSR for someone to beat him. He made it to the finals beating the man they found and won the Gold in the 1972 Olympics. Not only was he competitive but he knew his competitors and what they brought to the table. He said that the Japanese had great techniques and were very slick, and that Russians very strong. He wondered what kind of strict weight training program they had that made them this way. A team mate of Dan told this story about waking up in the middle of the night in a Hotel Room to the sound of Dan doing push ups. He asked him what he was doing and Dan said that he had a Dream the Russians were working harder than him. He continued to do push ups and sit-ups until he fell asleep.
never know with this place. you'd usually get some lame dyel response from a pic like that.
no, fags wear gay outfits like fags
sure pal
why don't you go buy one of those mongolian wrestling outfits and wear it while having gay buttsex with your gay homobuddy you homogay lmfao
guys what are your thoughts on krav maga for self defence?
Are you good at throat punching and nut kicking while pretending to shy away?
Yes? Congratulations you already know Krav Maga!
No? Sure, it's great for self defense!
Pick him up by the belt then hook your legs under to catch him and roll him to the side
I'll never forgive the jews for all the evil they've brought into this world.
Fuck the jews and their fake six million.
You can do jumping jacks anytime, too, and not pay some idiot for the privilege
