How to get legitimately diagnosed with autism/asbergers?
I want to understand why my brain works the way it does. Do i need a behavioral therapist or a psychiatrist? I know I am severely developmentally delayed, and im basically your average autist, and a failed normie. Please help. I cant stand not knowing how truly fucked I am.
>How to get legitimately diagnosed with autism/asbergers? go to a doctor
>I want to understand why my brain works the way it does. you don't need a label or a diagnosis for that. you just want to construct it onto part of your identity unnecessarily, which is natural but useless
>I cant stand not knowing how truly fucked I am. if you're at this stage and you're legitimately autistic, it's going to get much, much worse friendo. hopefully you reach the acceptance stage alive
My personality is set in stone. I just want to have the knowledge of how significantly autism has effected me. Im 28 and was diagnosed with asbergers at 14. I want a more accurate diagnosis in my current age. .. and yes Im fully aware it only gets worse. Im feeling it now, as I always have felt it.
chock it up to my asbergers syndrome. I choose to spell it how I mean to. and also I misspelled it. My mistake.
Adam Moore
I got diagnosed with ASD (Asperger's profile) today. Feel free to ask me anything. If you live in a country with a national health service, go to your local doctor and ask to be referred. If in the US, find a psychologist who specialises in adult autism diagnosis.
Jackson Young
>t. didn't speak a word until almost 3 years old
Is this standard for autists?
I didn't speak until 3 either .
Blake Morales
My speaking and motor skills were fine. Non-verbal is mega autist
James Brown
had all 3 desu. if it's just non-verbal maybe there is another cause. usually the curse comes with at least some motor skill issues. otherwise you could be clinically classified under PDD-NOS.
but clinical classifications are horse shit anyways. the best advice i can give you is not to worry about what other people want to classify you as. categories are meaningless from the perspective of self. you just are who you are, no need to put a label on it.
Cameron Rodriguez
> categories are meaningless from the perspective of self. you just are who you are, no need to put a label on it.
this is exactly what my psychiatrist says about my schizotypal personality disorder, as it rapidly degenerates my mental health. categories and titles are imperative to recognizing and treating certain disorders.
Luis Bell
>categories and titles are imperative to recognizing and treating certain disorders kek, "treat" you how? you can't really treat schizotypal or autism.
>categories and titles are imperative to recognizing and treating certain disorders sure, but it's way overdone in todays society. and in the context of autism there's not much you can do, especially if you're older. no amount of therapy or meds will make you normal. you just have to roll with it
it begs the question of why you would even get diagnosed. if you're young it's valid for accommodation maybe, but if you're not there's really no point other than waving a piece of paper around and saying "look guys, i'm autistic!"
Parker Phillips
>you can't really treat schizotypal or autism. I know. my psyche has expressed that to me. But damn is it hard to live with. >why you would even get diagnosed I want to know if aspergers is still my diagnosis. If its not that and something else, Id like to have a clear picture of what it is. I would imagine its much the same. I essentially just want a second opinion. Im not going to start wearing "please be patient" shirts just to flaunt my autism. it really matters to me to have a solid current diagnosis. But hey, if I do get diagnosed again then hell, at least I can have a reason as to why ive been such a failure in life. Im NEET and not interested in interacting with people anymore. I can pretend to play the social game, but its entirely surface level.
Luis Brown
>I want to know if aspergers is still my diagnosis why does it even matter? you should be more sure of your situation than a psychologist.
>I can pretend to play the social game, but its entirely surface level. look into schizoid. it might have been what you meant instead of schizotypal. if that's the case, and with information from , you may want to look elsewhere. schizoid and autism have a lot of overlap and if you didn't experience any kind of motor or verbal delay, it's even more suspect
Dominic Davis
Im eloquent in speech, and my motor skills I think are average. Im quite dexterous. I often slur words and cant think of what to say in quick conversations. I mix up my words alot also. my conversing skills are learned from a lot of practice, but i often repeat the same phrases over and over again. I'll latch onto a phrase and repeat it til im bored of it and then pick up another phrase.
its fucking autism bud! I dont have any recollection of being diagnosed, the name of the doctor, or how it came about that my doctor suggested i be tested.
I dont know how to go about doing it by myself. My mom did it all for me.
Jace Walker
ask your mom y-you can still ask right :(
Logan James
yes I can ask her, and we have discussed it, but it i basically need her help to do stuff like that. She schedules appointments for me on big stuff like this. she gets me the numbers i need to call and tells me how to do things.
I legit cant organize my brain, in regards to times and dates and all the documents i need, to do things like this. My mom has held my hand my entire life, and i need it. its fucked.
Dylan Sanchez
>My mom has held my hand my entire life, and i need it. its fucked iktf if my mom dies im gonna just an hero desu
Jason Turner
same my man. I really cant remember half of my life. she remembers everything for me, but she is really good for doing things I cant. I will be an empty shell with no means to do anything if she dies.
What are we gonna do man? How will we live when our parents do die? Im glad you can sympathize with me, for real. Glad but shamed. How old are you? Im 28 with zero life skills.
Daniel Martin
Who here /fell through the cracks/ ?
Didnt even get an autism diagnosed until 30 FUCKING YEARS OLD.
The psychologists Ive seen are angry that nobody picked it up earlier so I could of actually had early intervention and perhaps my life could of been salvaged
Ayden Collins
I didnt fall through like you did, but of all the therapists and psychs that ive seen since the age of 14 have mentioned anything about autism or aspergers. How did you get diagnosed? what made your doctor say "get that boy checked for autism"?
Grayson Sanders
21 I legit can't function on my own. I can't even answer the phone unless I know who is calling and even then it's unlikely
There are just too many things related to social ability that I don't know or understand
Leo Jones
it took me a long time to be able talk to people on the phone. I still am unable to leave a coherent voicemail. but all it takes to answer a phone is a simple "hello". They'll tell you who they are if you ask. But I really can relate. Ive learned over the years how to talk to people on the phone. Id say it gets better, but thats a lie. But it Can get less bad. You'll get it eventually. Shit, i remember when i was 21, i was basically retarded when it came to social interaction.
need advice? ask me anything bro. What do you struggle with mostly?
Leo Brown
>What do you struggle with mostly? Everything just enough to cause problems but not come across as special needs Tbh my biggest problem right now is getting a job when I can't compete on a social level with any other candiddate. Even did an interview where they said they liked me but my answered a failed to get enough points
Daniel Lopez
>enough to cause problems but not come across as special needs
thats my same issue. Im not retarded, but I know that people think im a bit "off". I have no problems with interviews, mostly because i worked at places an actual retard could work. I just smile alot. Your physical appearance can have a lot to do with how well interviews go.
What kind of jobs did you apply for?
Xavier Ross
The trade jobs because I dropped out twice
Jonathan Cruz
If it is any help, I was diagnosed at six and still grew up to be a 27 kv
