OP is more or less correct, real soap works great.
Doesn't have to be any special brand, just plain old regular soap does the job and costs next to nothing.
Bonus:
No cancerous xenoestrogens (parabenes) like in the liquid stuff.

I'm getting mine from a russian grocery store, I'm actually in Europe. Just a habit leftover from the days in the Motherland. It might be harder/pricier to get in the states though, but you should have your brands. Just look for laundry soap or hard soap, it's the same thing. Unscented is the best. It should be very alkaline.
