I used to want to be an air force fighter pilot then astronaut as a kid.
It was my dream.
I absolutely loved aircraft.
I remember my parents took me to the Air and Space museum in Dulles when I was 4 and I saw the Sr-71 they had there and it was magnificent.
All the old and new jet engines were out on display, pilot suits, simulators, etc.
Then I got old and learned I inherited shitty eyesight genetics from both sides of the family.
My vision wasn't good enough to fly.
Completely killed my dream.
If only there were gains for my eyesight

Not that guy but in Canada they rather you wear glasses than get any type of surgery. In fact I'm pretty sure you get kicked out of the CAF if you wear contacts or have had eye surgery. This is due to complications from things arising from the surgery such as not being able to rub your eyes and things getting into your eyes being more of a threat.

It's not too late man, with astronauts you're hitting your prime in the 40's. I'm in a similar situation, 28 in the army but I'm a pilot and don't have a college degree.
Going to college next year to get a degree in mathematics then working toward the astronaut goal.

There are so few people in life that actually "go for it" without making excuses. The right time for something doesn't exist, I found that out a couple years back, the right time will never exist, you have to make the time because it won't come to you.

An instructor of mine would say when the aircraft started getting out of control, "Control the aircraft, don't let it control you. You tell it where you want it to go." I think about that but in the bigger picture.
