My grandmother is 70 years old and extremely overweight. She explains this as a result of her thyroid problem. If she were to restrict her calories to 500 below her TDEE would she lose weight? Or is there some genuine hormonal problem here that is preventing her from losing weight? She also reported to me that she has lost 10 kilos since moving in with my family. Please help, because I don't want my grandmother to die due to her unhealthy weight. Pic obviously unrelated

There are no scientific studies that back up the claim that someone can't lose weight. It's a very basic formula - you consume less calories than you need to maintain your current weight (which you can find through a TDEE calculator) and you WILL lose weight.
Combine that with exercise and there is no way she can't get healthier. That being said, fat fucks always lie about what they eat. See pic related.

Your grandmother is only 70? one of mine grandparents just died at 96.
Why does it seem like the age of people on here never changes despite me getting older? I guess people really do leave, I'm only 31 but feeling like an old cunt, everyone here seems to be 18-21 at max, where did all my bros around my age go?
I can't get her to exercise because she is too old to do anything besides take a walk. She also has to stay on her feet the entire day cause she has to take care of a baby and cook
white ppl
heh
They left because they started doing better things in life instead of larping on an Indonesian hentai appreciation board...
Hypothyroidism is real, but her dumb ass just needs medication. Then she'll have no more excuses
Stop making excuses for her. The level of exercise is relative to what she's currently doing.

Don't fuck with me again, nigger. You're either here for advice or just trolling. You have all the information you need.
Also don't older people's metabolisms slow down so that they need much less calories to maintain their weight? I might be talking out my ass but i feel like I've heard this a billion times
The TDEE calculator takes that into account.

So if she's on medication for her hyperthyroidism, then she should have no trouble losing weight by limiting her calories and at the very least walking for 30 mins a day right? I won't be able to get her to do any exercise but I can definitely control her diet.
That's really old broscience that the older generation still cling to because they don't know any better. The effect is negligible, what changes are your life habits. More time seated, less time to cook, sedentary lifestyle, etc.
Correct. If that does not work, (give it time) there are other things it could be, like hormonal balance, stress causing excess cortisol for example
TDEE calculator said 1600 calories, so I should tell her 1000 calories on the maximum right? I'm not a newfag, I just have zero experience with old people's nutrition so sorry for the dumb questions
Insulin resistance is another possible factor, to lessen that you can reduce carb intake and increase fiber. Fasting also works nicely
Fasting
It's fine to start in the 1000-1500 range and dial it back slowly as she adjusts. If it's too hard for her she wont be consistent with it or argue against it
Hormonal problems can do 2 things to stop weight loss
Lower your metabolism (which cannot fall below basal, you just won't be able to do a lot of exercise easily)
Keep you hungry
If she eats less than her basal ( I assume she doesn't exercise) she will be hungry and probably feel bad at least at first but she will lose weight. If you really want to help her, spend more time with her, monitor her diet while keeping her busy. Go for a walk with her or play some board game.
Also, cut sugar out of her life ASAP, at least processed. If she wants something sweet, she can have a fruit and even then she shouldn't gorge
>Old lady is obese
OH MAH GAWD IT'S HER OWN FUCKING FAULT
>Old man (also president of USA ) is obese
c-cut him some slack bro h-hes 72 years old!
4channel(tm) is constantly growing, so new people are coming in all the time. Plus some of the older people leave, but a lot of them are probably still around. Still, even if everyone who came here at least a decade ago is still here they would only make up a small percentage of users
Sure, but that doesn't change the laws of physics that are going to dictate a minimum amount of energy required to do some task (haul your 150 lb ass 3 miles). You do a certain amount of work, you have to burn a certain number of calories. Maybe it's 10%, 20% less than a teen. But whatever, reduce your calories, adapt and move on.
Fatties like to pretend their metabolism is so low they're able to violate thermodynamics laws by maintaining their body at 98.6F/37C without burning any calories.
>cut sugar ASAP
This and also make sure to shift her food towards healthy stuff. Less starch, good carbs from greens, whole rice etc. and fruit. And make sure it’s a sustainable and steady transition. It’ll be easier to accept and stick to it.
She’s 70 bruh just let her die
