MMA Sparring

Yo /fit,

I'm getting into MMA for fitness. Today I did 10 rounds of sparring and was wondering if anyone would be able to critique me and give me pointers. I'm the guy at the start in the blue T-Shirt. It's not all 100% try hard serious, we do bits of silly shit here and there.

Also what do you think of MMA for fitness?

try now

>that fucking music

Why? Also not an MMAfag but you need to actually move to get fit mate.

So are you going to show the sparring? Please don’t tell me that that vid was the sparring. Unless I’ve been b8ed,in which case good job

It's light beginner sparring.

as a two time MMA champion, allow me to cast my opinion. Included is timestamped (from when i last posted them) medals so you know I'm serious, and I can retime stamp them if you don't believe me.
My consensus:
your form is shit, you're too far forward, your stance is fucking shit. If you're doing a thai stance it's shit and too wide, if it's a boxing stance it's shit and too long.
nothing is coming from your hips because you're too wide and low. your punches and kicks are pathetic, at that low impact why the fuck are you even wearing shin pads?

My advice is spend some money and find a good trainer and do 3-4 privates with him and get him to improve your form. Pick someone with a competition background.
I'd consider changing schools too because if you've been going longer than a month and have stance and form like that, you're being conned.
If you have any direct questions i'll respond.

This was like round 8 both pretty gassed out. You can see I was sweating and breathing through my mouth.

This is not in the slightest constructive but I'm not saying you're wrong.

Also I've been to like 5 different classes, not even a member at the gym and most of the classes have been jiu jitsu.

BJJers like this who are so up their own ass really the biggest deterrent to those who want to take up martial arts

I struggled to find anything constructive to say because it was such a bad display. My constructive advice is to spend the money and get a professional to show you. there's nothing you can read or be told that will make up for an experts eye. If you've got the money for Scramble fight shorts and rashy, you've got the money to be shown what to do in them.
then show us your ground game. you may notice the medal at the top is from the AFBJJ championships so i know my jiu jitsu a bit. Your technique matches 5 classes. Sign up, and take it seriously, and post again in a year.
get mad cunt, where's your accolades?
>IRL i'm actually really nice and friendly to newbies, because I can see their mistakes and show them the correct way. Can't do that online.
Goes back to my original point of do a private with someone who knows.

I’ve seen more intensive sparring at a elementary schooler judo competition. Dead serious.
If you want actual advice here
>move more
>keep your fucking hands up Jesus Christ you kept dropping your hands every chance you got that’s how you get knocked the fuck out
> high kicks are for people who know how to use them, those people do not include you
>feet should be a bit closer together
>you punch from the hip and core not just your arm
>try moving your head out of the way of the punches
>your legs are begging for a takedown
T. Boxed for a year, judo for 1 1/2, have won a judo comp, but don’t have my medal like the dude above me.

I get what you're saying but you could just say you need to tighten your guard etc.. Instead of "this is the worst sparring everrr"

but yeah man I'll be fucking shit up in a years time

Keep your hands up and focus on the basics, you’ll learn shit as time goes on. Best of luck

The reason why the sparring is so light is because we're both friends and just want to keep it playful. It's also new years day and everyone is hungover. Didn't feel like braying each other.. I have no qualms with hard sparring tho.

man I wanna get into mma this year as well, I know some BJJ but wanna learn more or muai thay. You guys should get more serious also your guard says you're not trying very hard. Also if you're serious about it you need to start lifting son, you look dyel. Anyways good luck and based song, dont listen the haters

Try to go a lil harder though, or even start with 100% grappling then work to full contact striking. You need to be ready for an onslaught from the other guy. Me and my pals hit full force all the time and we’re still friends at the end of the day.

If you want your sparring judged by your best efforts then post them instead.

I had more gains at one point but got lazy n starting chugging beer. Sucks but 2019 is the year. I think I want to get good at BJJ.

Yeah man fair play.

Yeah you're right.

There’s light, then there’s what you posted. That isn’t sparring, light or heavy, it’s just two guys messing around in the gym. Which is fine, it’s just not sparring.
This would be a mid to light intensity sparring session

Why the fuck are your hands down the whole time? You don't even react to half of the punches that would have landed if your opponent wanted to.

Combat “sports” are the gayest shit ever you’re all fags

Man, there no way that is light. Surely if you sparred like this every day you would get brain damage eventually. Maybe I'm wrong.

I take you're point tho.. spar harder.

T. Fatty “powerlifter”

I’ve been training Bjj and Muay Thai for about 5 years. I would say lower your stance slightly and try to be less flat footed. You hop around a little in between exchanges then go flat footed again. Being that upright leaves you open for leg kicks and takedowns. Keep your guard up, you can get away with this in beginner sparring but it will ingrain bad habits. Try to fire back whenever your opponent engages, this will look better for judging and will also make your opponent second guess their attacks if you can land something. Try to throw combos too. I know what it’s like to spar tired and what that does to your technique. Keep up the good work and try to keep your technique as clean as possible, you will thank yourself down the line when you don’t have to correct things.

You need to keep you hands up.

I did.

>too far forward

>nothing coming from your hips because you're too wide and low.

You're gonna have to learn the fundamentals before you even get pointers.
