Rucking for fitness

I find rucking to be a great supplement to my fitness. I fill a 75 liter backpack with waterbottles until it's really heavy, strap it on, and climb the steepest mountains I can. I notice so many benefits to strength, endurance, and the mental/spiritual gains from all the hard work and being outside.

Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas on how to do it better, or what you get out of it?

Enjoy fucking your knees
There's a reason there isn't any former infantry who's not broken

It's great. It's like a nice combination of lifting and cardio.
That's mostly from running and jumping with weights. If you just walk it's fine.

uh... no, man. It's from rucking long distances with heavy weights as well. At least in your case you're (presumably) allowing yourself ample time to rest in between these stints.

Backpacking is great for fitness gains but it tends to make me break out really bad along where the straps meet my back so not ideal for aesthetics.

A few days of winter backpacking through mountains sheds a shit ton of fat. You're also cold all the time though.

Yeah I don't do 20 miles every day. Moderation, dude.

>75kg
yeah. try no more than 20 to start with

When i was a grunt and I heard boots and utes or hump my heart sank.
Those are all about building mental toughness but in reality you're just tearing up your body.
If your not looking to join the military or fight in a war I can't recommend it, I'm 26 and have no cartilage in one of my knees and degenorated disks in my back, I'm pretty lucky too.
Just don't.

Yeah winter camping/snowshoeing is great but damn if I don't need a vacation after

Boots and utes ruck runs were the worst

what is utes

A lot of military training just tears you down rather than building you up. The military is all about having you get in shape on your own time and then just jumping through their ridiculous hoops. Rucking is definitely not better than unweighted walking. Your joints will thank you for not being a fucking retard.

Rucking is retarded and WILL fuck your knees for the rest of your life.

cammie trousers without the blouse, like so.

You mean the best? I fucking love rucks, I still do boots and utes rucks now that I'm out. If you do it intelligently and keep the focus on not fucking your knees then the damage to your knees is somewhat negligible

FML this

Nothing wrong with rucking if you dont fill your backpack with heavy ass shit like the military does. Gradually increase weight and speed starting really easy and dont do it too often.

ranger shuffle with 120lb day in day out is probably a bad idea, but if you're not in the military you can scale loading and frequency as appropriate for your goals

for me, at least, brisk walking with a 30-45lb load is reliably easier to recover from than running over the same terrain and produces about the same average heart rate

it occurs to me that loaded walking on a steeply inclined treadmill or a stairmaster might be a really useful modality--low-impact, but very hard work, but also with more carryover to many real-world goals than the erg or the airdyne

but it's so autistic that nobody ever does it

Hiking for days > meme rucking

I'll give you two hints, since you want to play soldier not knowing it's damaging;

>rucking both fucksbup your back and destroys your knees

I served 4 years as a rifleman, my knees are beyond gone. Same with thebrest of my mates.

This. 30 years old and knees are dead from 4 years of that shit. Swimming is my go-to.

31 yo former mortarman, water rower is my cardio now.

If I'm a young grunt with SF aspirations what can I do to minimize how badly my body gets destroyed?

My school has tons of stairs everywhere and is built into a hill with a dozen different levels so you're forced to go up and down all day to get anywhere. Since I'm an autist my backpack is full of all sorts of random shit that might come in handy so it weighs 40 pounds. My legs are made of steel

I'm so glad I got out of the Marine Corps. I was motor T and every unit I was in tried to be hard corps like a grunt unit. It was so damn stupid.
