What the fuck do i do about shin splints. My cardio well outpaces my legs ability to not hurt like bitches. I run on a treadmill exclusively, but i'd really like to run around the block with my dog but the concrete is killing me. I also have fairly nice running shoes.

ugly crybaby picture related.

Toe strike, bigger calves, stretchier anterior tibialis

Run Inna woods.

first of all, figure out if it's a muscular or a bone problem. if you can press on any location and have a sharp pain, it's probably a fracture of some kind and you're gonna need to chill. if it's just overall bitchleg, you need to do assistance exercises and work on your fucking stride because you probably look like a yeti shambling off into the brambles to shit out a load of berries. also, you're fat.

I'll try running on toes. I currently can calf raise 280 so i'm not sure its a problem of actual calf strength.

Oddly enough i have tried this and while its very nice to run in a freshly plowed field, this time of year there arent any around here.

Do you mean i should pressure it post workout or any time? I'm not ruling out stride. Definitely not fat.

Use the elliptical

I've been using the stair climber and i really like it, but it would be nice to be able to run with my dog and jogging with a tight core is great for your abs.

Run with better form retard. Get some vibrams.

stop running on the treadmill. I suffered from shin splints when I was flipping back and forth from trail to treadmill running, but they stopped when I went exclusively trail

Interval hill sprints on the treadmill have helped.

Also, hip flexors. Use the adductor machines (the groin ones) at the gym, do pic related 3x10 (with each rep holding for ten seconds at peak), and do frequent stretches (cross your legs and lean your nose in as far as you can towards your knee).

Cheers, interval hill sprints on my toes is something i can try.

Not really any trails around here unfortunately. Only one i know of is paved with asphalt which hardly counts.

Thank you very much for your guys help.

Drink more water
Work on your running form

some suggestions:
>lose weight if you're fat
>run/walk program like couch to 5k may be useful to build up running durability--use a low-impact modality like rowing for cardio
>increase stride rate and stop overstriding
>experiment with shoe gear--"fairly nice" is not as important as comfortable and well-fitting

>tfw can run 15km no problem
>tfw 6 months of boxing training made me take time off due to severe shin pain

It's on my right leg (probably due to orthodox style), abou t a quarter way up the shin. My poor legs weren't used to the multidirectional pressures.

Jump rope probably didn't help either

You need to slowly adapt, run some on the treadmill and some on the concrete. Slowly run more and more on the concrete. Also lose weight if you are fat.

calf raise 280 lbs or kg?
i raise 300kg (660lbs) and i get shinsplits after doing fast paced walking for 5 mins

Stop running on the sidewalk

It’s not your calf, it’s another muscle. I’m afraid you’ll simply have to slowly ramp up progress. Shin splints affects everyone unless they’ve been running their whole life and even they get it sometimes as they increase volume.

Stop running for a month. That's how I stopped mine

What worked for me is simple calf stretches before and after running. I used to get them constantly before starting a lower body stretching routine

Have you considered not being a bitch?

its nature telling you to go back to play vidya

jk, i had shin splits badly while sprinting and it went away alone

That's because your stride on the treadmill was fucked.

> Can run sub 8 minute mile
> once every 2 or 3 weeks randomly shin splints after 10 seconds of jogging
> next day will crush a mile no problem
There really seems to be very little logic behind shin splints.

You literally just need to get someone to viciously knead your shins. It's just a build-up of gross shit, knead that shit out. Worked for me anyways

This & Calve raises

Or try not being a fatty

Running is stupid. There are stationary bikes that are 1000x better at cardio and muscle building. All running does is make you twig and shatter your bones slowly. Disfigures ur feet too.

take your two thumbs and put them together one overlapping the other

push along the entire area of you shin that hurts with a little more than the force required to crack an egg

it will hurt really bad. and then it wont.
