I feel you op, my sister is overweight/obese. She has been big all her life, and at some point of her life she was constantly trying to drop some weight only to regain it all plus some more.
All the odds have been stacked against her, she was a big child due to poor diet and severely bullied and ate the pain away. Both my mom and sis are obese and emotional eaters. I've tried giving some advice, really basic nutritional knowledge but instead of making a lifestyle change she goes on a seek long diet, only to relapse soon.
I feel really bad for both her and my mother as they clearly are unhappy with their weight, and are unable to commit to a healthier lifestyle.

It takes a lot of effort, but make sure that they understand that it's well worth it. I would suggest starting small, encouraging them to cut out foods they don't ''''need''' to have and replacing them with healthy foods they like.

When I dropped 20kg I was given dirty looks and was always told to eat more, it wasn't healthy to eat "as little" as i did. Luckily my dad supported me in my effort. But that support came to an end when I started counting calories while lifting.

I have a really good friend who is 330+ pounds. His breath stinks, he's got disgusting psoriasis on his elbows and knees, none of his clothes fit properly and he's a narcissist to boot.
I was hoping that by continuing to lose a bunch of weight he'd snap out of it, but he's way too lazy. He doesn't have a job and lives with my two other buddies. He always ropes in other people to help "work for him" on stupid projects that never go forward, so every time he brings up his "next big idea he'll need a grant for" i just smile and nod, because he hasn't clued in that nothing he has ever done has been worth anything.

One time we decided to take a weekend trip to a large cave system in our state.
