Reading Aristotle's Politics after having finished Nicomachean Ethics now, after will either revisit Republic and Laws by Plato or grab the Anabasis by Xenophon and continue being a Persiaboo.

/lit/ is filled with legitimate communists and effeminate boys. Not a place for anyone here

I prefer novels so I haven't got round to it yet

Goggins is a sad, broken person

Currently reading "The Fourth Political Theory" by Alexander Dugin.

I'm not a "Duginist" but find it interesting nonetheless.

I admire his commitment to fitness but I hope the dude finds peace one day

>Plato
>entry level
lmao

Literally philosophy 101

Plato is where philosophy babbies start but its by no means entry-level. You need to re-read Plato after reading each of his contemporaries.

Just finishing up Job now, with only 4 more books left before I finish the Old Testament completely.

Body and mind cover only 2 of the 3 domains of experience. Don't neglect your soul.

Currently reading some of DFW’s essays, as well as some Wyndham Lewis. Also reading Bloom’s The Western Canon just for improving my general knowledge.

What I want to discuss: I fucked my hot co-worker before Christmas but haven’t had to see her in work since mid-December. Reflecting on it I think I actually like her a lot more than I originally thought I did and want to make her my gf, should I?

>can't buy a scholarly bible translation for less than $100
Religious teachers don't want people to be educated

Have you tried the New Oxford Annotated Bible? I've been using the 4th edition and just bought a used one for a friend a couple days ago for about $30 off Amazon. I think new copies of the 5th edition are about the same price too.

My lifts are shit, but I've finally started a proper PPL routine after doing a 5day bro split on and off and getting shit all done. Feeling much better about it and making progress.
I'm reading Walden. Thought it was appropriate since I'm moving off into the woods with my gf this spring and am building a cabin on my 5 acres of land. Gotta get strong so I can lift lumber

Just bought gravity rainbow and infinite jest. Which do I read first for max gains?

Will cop when I have fewer books in the backlog

Neither, both are memes. Could probably use them as makeshift weights for DYEL-tier gains though.

>trying to gf a girl who confirmed fucks around
Lele

On third read through of Silmarillion. Figured I'd try to pick up elvish if only because I've never been able to make a language "click" in my head that wasn't English and I have an intense hatred for just about all other ro antic countries

Just learn German you sperg. English isn't a Romance language, what the fuck are you even on about?

Everyone fucks around, user

>English isn’t a Romance language

Yeah, but if it was that easy for a loser like you to get in her pants, imagine how easy she is for everyone else.
Have some standards man.

I'm just fucking with you user go get some ass.

It's literally not. It's not etymologically derived from Latin. It's predominantly Germanic with only Latin influences. Read a book.
For someone obsessed with Tolkien you'd think you'd know a bit more about the history of language.

Journal articles on the Oresteia and seven against Thebes. Reading a book on Aeschylus and another on Greeks in Egypt during the archaic period.

Also the republic is shit. Get Xenophon. Plato was a cunt.

Plato was a filthy fucking Communist, read Aristotle's Politics and Ethics to have a hearty chuckle at Collectivist fags

You’re making the assumption that a language can only either be Germanic or Romantic. You’ve admitted yourself that English has Latin influences. It’s not a stretch to say that you can class it as either Romantic or Germanic. There is no firm answer to the question.

kek, will get some ass, thanks user

Former citizens of the Roman Republic did not form the English language, it has no etymological history in common with Roman until 1066 via the Normans. English isn't Romance.

Hadn't heard of A Guide to the Good Life before. Is it still worth it if I've already read Meditations, Enchiridion, and Seneca's Letters? I like stoicism but it seems that most reading on it is just a lot of the same thoughts written over and over again.

Take the Pythagorean pill and contemplate the beautiful perfections of mathematics until you come to understand true Determinism.

evolvetowin.com/books/100-books-men-should-read/

If I’m not mistaken, the cut-off point for when the etymological nature of a language is decided isn’t 1066. English has changed monumentally since 1066. Not entirely sure why you feel that a whole millennia of change to the language can be disregarded for no apparent reason beyond your own vague definitions and opinions.

>english has changed over the past millennia
>latin has been a dead language for the past millennia
>surely this dead language has influenced the core of the English language
Hurrrrrrrr
Durrrrrrrr

If the nignogs in subsaharan Africa speak a bit of French that they picked up by cross-contact during French colonialism, does that make their language Romance?

>the Odyssey
You better have read the Illead first, nigger.

I'm not lifting pages, but I am listening to "The Story of Civilization" on audiobook. Currently half way through volume 3.

Counterpoint: Odyssey is best read before the Illiad as an introduction to the ideal state of a Greek Hero in isolation, so that the various Heroes of the Illiad can be better understood in their context.

Also the Odyssey is boring as shit compared to the Illiad and if you read the Illiad first you'll spend most of your time with the Odyssey waiting for Odysseus to Get in the Fucking Boat.

Of Mice and Men

Of Mice and Men raises the eternal question of whether tard strength is considered /fraud/ or natty

If there’s sufficient representation of it in their language, I’d say you could make an argument for it, yeah

Congratulations, you've entered the deepest pits of the Dunning-Kruger valley.

In other words, you’re a dumb prescriptivist with no argument

If you dont consider yourself a beginner in stoicism i guess not. its a meant as a practical straightforward guide for modern stoicism. Meditations was just too scattered for me to get anything from it. A guide to the good life is a explanation of the underlying concepts.

>prescriptivist
Oh look the relativist brainlet is trying to use big words to make up for his lack of basic education! Keep playing make-believe with your Elves and Gnomes, sweety.

Meditations is literally just a day journal, why would you read that and expect a foundation for Stoicism? Read Epictetus, the Enchiridion and Discourses (notes gathered by Arrian, one of his students and an accomplished biographer).

kek, still no argument beyond ‘hurrr language can’t be that way because I DONT LIKE IT!’

Per side or total including bar?

Reading pic related right now, it's just a collection of Podcasts on recent developments in biology and their ethical implications.
It's interesting and boring at the same time

>words mean whatever I want them to mean
>entire languages mean whatever I want them to mean
This is your brain on relativism

My original argument was that it’s not clear cut whether English is a Romantic or Germanic language, a view held by most linguists in the world today. You’re just too retarded to understand that not every question has a binary answer.

>, a view held by most linguists in the world today.
[Citation needed]

Yeah, it’s much more likely that everyone agrees with you and your backwards view that language is fixed and can’t change beyond its original roots. The entire linguistic world is prescriptivist now, get with the times, old man.

>reading philosophy

what the actual fuck

Gonna need that source bud.

Look at this actual pleb not reading philosophy

>Malazan
That series killed my mother and raped my mother.

I usually do one book and one audiobook at a time, one of them fiction and the other non-fiction. Right now I'm reading The Revolt of the Angels and listening to Richard Feynman's autobiography. They're both really good, but Feynman has a chapter about when he was a PUA for like a week and it was cringy as fuck.

Kino, which are your favorites?

philosophers dont know how to write
they will be eternally btfo by poets, novelists and dramatists

lmao philosophy is literally rebbit: the hobby.
its a way too pass time for people with no actual interests

How about you read literally anything in pre-Shakespearian english you sperg?

I heard from some Russians Dugin is considered a joke in Russia and is mostly directed for outsiders. a sort of propaganda device. Thoughts?
I tried giving HH a read but it was complete shovelware, how can you stomach it?
