Obviously it's not. No one will look even close to good by eating in caloric surplus for whole year while doing 3 exercises 3 times a week.

I ran starting strength, obviously it's not optimal but it did its job and then I recently got off it onto different programming. You can do a lot worse than SS if you aren't retarded with your nutrition.

Look, there's a lot wrong with SS. But if you have no idea what SS is, or just resort to strawmen when you don't like something, you fail to make your point and you make people think there aren't legitimate criticisms to be made.

Rippetoe litteraly said that SS should be ran for a year. And yes it's literally 3 exercises. Chin ups only replace deadlifts once you can't recover from them properly.

Big moves should be core workout even after starting period.

Also, power cleans replace deadlifts. Later, rows and chins are added and four exerciaes are done on many days.

I ran SS and got to (rep, not maxes) 135 OHP, 295 Squat, 355 Deadlift, and 200 Bench. Just buy micro plates and eat a lot.

Tbh just do any LP and be consistent. Anyone who complains about SS hasn’t done it right. It’s so simple.

What about 5/3/1 x3 a week? With every time doing either bp+squat or dL+ohp, followed by 100-150 reps of anything that may help. Weighted dips, chins, leg press, pendlay rows, etc, etc.
I have had some pretty fine results.

5/3/1 is fucking terrible. All it will do is cause you to peak because the lowering volume allows you to shed fatigue and display more strength. It effectively detrains you. It’s basically only good for the run-up to a competition.
