How do you start going to gyms? I walked through my college’s rec center and it was the most intimidating thing ever. I don’t even know where to start and there are a million people all watching you. I have no idea what weight does what and how much I should start with. It seems impossible to avoid embarrassment.

none of them are watching you, they are just following their program...
When I do watch people its never the small weak dudes, its the guys who lift a ton more than me, or are in bodybuilder type shape, or honestly the yoga pants
Something that might help us to go at a non peak time such as early morning. If you go at 530 it’s going to be already packed and you will have to wait in line, etc.
Also find a routine ahead of time and come with it written down or recorded in your phone. Wear headphones if you don’t want to talk with people.
No one is watching you it’s all I’m your head.
this. get over yourself nobody cares about you. and i mean that in a good way.
Figure out your routine in advance. Walk around the gym and find everything. Awkwardness over
>Read the sticky.
>Get over yourself.
That’s it. Lift barbell and dumbbells up, then put them back down. Other than that, machines typically have instructions of their use literally printed on them.
All these. No one is watching you, they probably are only looking if you're going to use something they may need and adjust their routine or ask to work in. Go to the gym on off-hours and go through your routine so you figure out where the machines/weights you need are. Also take note of pulley/seat positions for machines so next time you won't have to fiddle around and figure it out letting you get right into your lifts.
First time should kinda suck. You don’t know where any of the equipment is/how to use it. Start SS/SL and find the benches/squat rack. Make sure not to egolift. Failing on your first rep is way more embarrassing than benching the bar. Once you get comfortable in your own skin, switch to a program for actual gains.
Just go and workout because if you don’t you will always be a scared little biiiiiiiiiitch.
You must go to planet fitness or some pussy gym.
Make no mistake, when you’re in my boneyard, and you’re new, you’re fresh meat.
If you have any competent friends who lift, ask them to show you. Its much easier to go with someone your first few times. If you don't, just do research like everyone else has said, and go to the gym. Dont let it bar you from success.
Sure am glad Daddy will be watching my lifts
Nobody really pays attention to you unless you are visibly out of place. After a few visits once you settle into your routine, you'll blend into the environment. Just think: you're there to workout and so is everybody else. You should be focusing on yourself, and you can expect others to be doing the same.
Do you have a routine? If not, read the sticky, write one down in a notebook, and go do it. Listen to music or something with headphones and just ignore everyone.
stfu you nerd lmao. stop larping as somebody who actually lifts you think guys who lift actually give a fuck about your dumb 5kg bicep curls
Big P’s gonna have fun with this one.
lol you can run your smart mouth online all you want but we both know if you we were standing face to face and Big P was with me, you wouldn't say shit. You'd use a little more respectful language. Big P doesn't like to be disrespected and he's been known to have quite the temper. Wouldn't end well for you.
in fact no one is watching you
That said, here's the thing: it's going to suck for you NO MATTER WHAT the first time you go. your brain thinks there are fucking tigers around every machine waiting to pounce on you. You just need to go and stick it out.
Or bring a friend or something. Be two scrubs scrubbing it out together as you do your shitty beginner lifts.
you can't change what people think, and you can't change whether you THINK people are watching, but you CAN change whether or not you stick it out and pick up some weights
Just download SL5x5. It's got demonstrations of all the lifts in the programme. When you stop getting gains/get bored you'll probably have figured out enough to find your next programme
Start with exercises you can do at home
like sit ups, going for a jog, push ups, squats, dips while holding onto a chair
basically go full prison workout, lifting chairs and other furniture
When your body has started getting used to the routine of exercise then go to the gym, make a workout plan, usually something that focuses on each muscle group in the body
don't stop, keep it up, everyday even when you're sore
rest days are for those who've earned it
This blows my fucking mind. You faggots actually wait in line just to enter the gym? Or do you wait in line just to use a piece of equipment? Either situation is fuckin retarded. Like just go to a different gym lol.
My workout takes 1.5 hours as is due to it being high volume. I can't imagine having to wait just to enter the gym.
I think he means to use equipment, but even still that is sad. Just ask to work in. You're in public, you should expect to interact with people
Post body
>That gayboi watching twinks squat and be socially awkward.
Caught you mirin’.
kek
Is there any shame on just starting with machines? What are the best machines to start with?
Feel like all my muscles are pretty weak and so my form for squats and deadlift suck, so I've been working on some flexibility training
Yes
Lower weight
Just start with free weights. That and press ups and chins can get you over any initial hesitancy at the gym
I definitely watch other people when I'm between sets. What do you do, stare at the wall like a lump? Or stare at your phone like an autist? It's natural and healthy to observe and interact with people when you're in a room full of people who all have common interests, user.
I d-don’t get it ._.
No one is watching you unless youre chad or a hot chick
sounds gay
>stare at the wall like a lump? Or stare at your phone like an autist?
Yes.
go with a group of friends. Dont go unprepared and have a routine already written up for when you go.
BASED BIG P IN THE HOUSE
That's not such a bad option really, given the alternatives. Today I think I creeped out the thot in the corner squat rack. I sat down on the safety without thinking I'd be facing her and only her. She was deadlifting lmao0.25pl8 with stripperlike form, and I must have reacted with a face reflecting the humor of the situation. She glanced at me, then stared ahead with the bitchiest look and finished her set before walking off without reracking.
>when you’re in my boneyard, and you’re new, you’re fresh meat.
I can't handle all this cringe.
Just give up an never accomplish anything besides being unpleasant to be around. At least then you can tell yourself you don't want people to like you.
It's not optimal, but machines are better than nothing if you're too awkward to go over to the free weights.
Ive never been harassed innagym but it still wigs me out. Worst case scenario someone corrects your form man and if they are judging you like an asshole then do you really care what an asshole thinks? You gotta just go once you get into your workout youll be done before you know it
Everyone starts out as a little weak bitch. Just keep working harder as time goes on
Tourettes guy was fake. Sorry.
Honestly, I don’t care. It’s hilarious to me
BIG DICK P ON CAMPUS BABY!!!
Ok, just had to let you know.
literally just walk in and exercise
just use a machine or something lmao
God imagine being such a beta fag that going to the gym puts you on edge? How do you do anything?
lmao shut the fuck up, idiot
and read the sticky
contrary to what you might believe the world doesn't exist to laugh at your failure.
None of them are watching you except maybe the one weird pajeet who always hogs the squat racks when hes there get over the paranoia amd just get amongst it
THE KING IS BACK
