Small towns in America are converting back to volunteer firefighters because there simply is nothing for them to do. While I think this trend will continue, I think it'll be decades before NYC for example, reverts back to an all volunteer force. Firefighters for the most part exist to assist police and EMT/Paramedics in some gruntwork.... they're the National Guard of first responders.

EE here with B.Sc. in power system engineering and M.Sc. in energy economics. 5 year work experience in the renewables/energy transition field.

Pay is decent, field relevant and interesting. Imo there's too much micromanagement from the government though (eurofitizen here).

If you have fun in what you're doing, stay with it. Control systems engineers are highly sought after and can get above average pay. One thing I recommend though is diversify your knowledge in other fields, especially finance and investing, not for your future jobs sake but your own.

That's just being confident and practical. I'm a marine engineer and it's the same. I just think electrical is about the least pants wetting of all the disciplines. But no matter what type of engineer you are. The minute a doctor or a pilot enters the room you are always 100% mogged.
