Love is a strong word. I really wish it improved, but I like the region. Relatively safe, homogeneous and all that. No real natural disasters, dangerous wildlife, good nature overall. With everything moving more and more to IT, it's not too hard to earn money and be content without having to work in any of the companies here. The people are quite grim and depressing, but it doesn't feel too bad. I'd take this over the western shit where everyone jumps in your face and start mob dancing.

Remove the oligarchy, nepotism, some of the very blatant corruption schemes, dial down on the "muh russia is attacking" and everything is good. I really realize how underappreciated our scenery is after traveling around the EU. Nothing fancy, it just works.

There's very little old growth forests where I live tho. Most of it is impassible brushwoods. There's a fair bit of logging going on as well.
