Irregardless of whether or not you enjoy doing it, lifting is a waste of time. Eventually, you will reach a point (usually 3+ years of consistent lifting) where you will have to make a decision of whether or not you truly want to continue. At this point in your career, the weight you lift will lead to long rest periods (5+ minutes), which means that doing 3 compound lifts 5x5 equates to at least 75 minutes of just rest. If fitness matters to you, biking to work or school + calisthenics (or taking up a martial art 2x a week) is a fantastic way to stay in shape and not burn away the small amount of free time you have.
After 3 years of lifting, my stats hit 350 squat, 185 ohp, 275 bench, and 450 dead, and for what? The amount of rest time I had to take between sets was absurd, and I realized that this is an incredibly pointless and vapid way to be spending my time. After I stopped lifiting, I chose to pursue hobbies that had an actual ROI, and a year later, I was able to get a job at Google with this investment of time into my other hobbies.
I just feel the need to tell you guys this, as I've spent so much of my time on this board in the past. Eventually you will hit this wall, and it's up to you to decide whether or not the amount of time you're spending is truly worth it in the end.
Or you know, just increase your work capacity and take shorter rests?

Like seriously yall really believe someone who worked up to a nearly 2pl8 fucking ohp would make some shit like this?

>be me >lift weights >look good >enjoy it too >have gf. Youre right dude. Totally wasting away over here. Should just go out clubbing or playing video games instead
Henry Perry
Been you aren't supposed to do SS for 3 years. You did waste your life because you don't even look good of it. Also I waste my time posting here I might as well scroll through threads between sets rather than browse this board without lifting. Also if you are doing shit with Google you are probably an ugly ass nerd l ta be honest so looksmaxxing could only have ever helped so much
Luke Gray
Why, after 3 years and hitting those numbers are you still training for “strength”. When you reach a solid strength base and increasing weight requires you to take ridiculous amounts of rest, CHANGE programme and hop on a split with accessories. You’ll end up looking good and having fun.

But lifting isn't a means to an end for me. It is the end because I generally enjoy being strong and no amount of otjer people's insecurity will take that away from me. Furthermore, research suggests lifting is good for your jointz, bones, heart, metabolism, etc. You can't project that away. Fuck your vanity.

I’ve been lifting since 2002. You just aren’t going to make it OP

Irregardless makes no sense. Just say regardless, brainlet.
>literally As opposed to metaphorically? I agree with you, but criticising someone's use of words that don't exist and then using a word incorrectly doesn't really intensify your burn. Also, while we are at it: >irregardless Followed by >whether or not you enjoy x You mean "regardless of whether or not you enjoy x" but even that's a waste of words and reading. You mean "whether or not you enjoy x", no need for the (ir)regardless as you have not made or are responding to a previous statement for anything to be considered in regard to that or not.

Weight training does not suit everybody. If you dont enjoy it and the only upside is that you look good, then you wont last yeah. Pointless thread, but I get what you're saying

What OP is saying is true, after you reached certain level of strength, if you want to keep getting stronger you are gonna have to make sacrifices and prioritize lifting over other things in your life. Work outs are gonna be really long, really hard, you are gonna have to be more days in the gym. You are gonna have to structure your life around training. There are diminishing returns to lifting. If you are lifting for competition or making money of it, if you don't have a strong community around it, should you really be putting that many hours in to it? Does it matter if you deadlift 240kilo or 260 kilo?
This makes people uncomfortable so they shit talk OP.
Luke Miller
What would you suggest relating to calisthenics?
Jeremiah Phillips
>after 3 years (according to some homo) >go to gym, get exercise by lifting and cardio >see the same people that have stuck with it for years and years still going at it alongside you >socialize with them and probably approach/get approached by newbies and cuties. Wait, you're not one of those weirdos that still has no friends at the gym after being there for years are you?

oed.com/viewdictionaryentry/Entry/109061 c.colloq.Used to indicate that some (frequently conventional) metaphorical or hyperbolical expression is to be taken in the strongest admissible sense: ‘virtually, as good as’; (also) ‘completely, utterly, absolutely’.Now one of the most common uses, although often considered irregular in standard English since it reverses the original sense ofliterally(‘not figuratively or metaphorically’).
First recorded use of the word in the coloquial sense was 1769, so eat shit you fucking loser.

>Irregardless of whether or not you enjoy doing it, lifting is a waste of time. Let me tell you a couple of three things, OP. There's no stigmata attached to eventually quitting the gym. It's true that after a few years even the best among us will run into that precipice of an enormous crossroad you mention, where they'll have to decide to keep lifting, increase numbers, or maintain or quit altogether. But that all depends on why you're lifting. If it's to get even with people who've moged you in the past, then you won't last, because as they say, revenge is like serving cold cuts, gotta lift for you. Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't try to become the hair apparent in your little crew, contest someone else's throne, and there's nothing wrong with that, but you gotta take Sung Tizzoo, the chinese prince Matchabelli's advice on this matter: he says let the past be bygone. Don't lift for others, especially not because you hate them, you know what i mean? A pint of blood costs more than a gallon of gold, but this has been well known since Quasimodo predicted all this. if you want to lift for grills on the other hand, that's more respectible. nothing wrong with, shall we say, having penissary contact with a volvo. I don't want to sound too crude here, but like Plato and leonard cohen said, there's an altercation between the sacred and the propane, and if you get motivated only by grills, there's no need to make that a flying ointment.
But maybe you trolled me, and I'm a little miffled at OP. Just thought i'd play the devil's avocado for a minute. I'm not exactly prostrate with grief, though, so I'll say 4/10 troll.
>tfw have japanese girl to bite phone >tfw she won't because phones are filthy as fuck

If you dont enjoy lifting, and would rather prioritize watching netflix or whatever normies do then fine. Stop projecting and just call it quits. You wont make it if you dont want to allocate 90 mins max three times a week to lifting.
so we all agree that OP is definitely getting mogged by some acquintance and this is a cope?
Joshua Peterson
Hey you know what they say, It's a doggy dog world out there, and people who care are a diamond dozen. However, for all intensive purposes, there are a few who make at least a half-harded afford to respond in a thoughtful matter, and not take good debate for granite. I mean, what's your problem, man? You seem to have a huge ship on your shoulder, for no good raison. You need to swallow your prize and just admit that I'm right. Quit being a pre-Madonna, and turn a blonde eye to your ego for a second, long enough to see that a well thought out response can be a blessing in the skies, even if it hurts your feefees. I'm not being edgy or playing the devil's avocado here. I sincerely believe what I said. Now, I'm not saying you should put good responses on a petal stool, but you shouldn't dissuade it with insults.
Jonathan Ortiz
I agree, switched over to calisthenics + lateral raises and swimming after 4 years of going to the gym. I look much better and have some actual stamina now. Been doing this for over two years now and it's a routine i can actually see myself doing for the rest of my life.
Hunter Adams
I never even thought about swimming, that's a great idea
