How do I safely do an extended fast?
>Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.

About how many calories should your refeeds or your OMAD be? Is low calorie (800-1200) too low or just right?

I'm 6'2 230 currently, down from 320 using fasting, OMAD, exercise, counting calories, and avoiding sugar and alcohol like the plague.. but my progress has slowed a bit. Wondering if dropping my OMAD calorie count by 500-1000 would hurt me too much..

I just started a new job so I've backed off on the multiple day fasts for a little bit while i adjust to the new daily schedule

I just watched a video about how sparkling water is good on a fast. It has salt in it as well. Should I be wary of any with flavor though?
Everything seems to say that while aspartame will kill you it won't break a fast so diet soda is okay.
Also learned that the drinks I enjoy cheating with on a fast contain erythritol and trace amounts of fruit which break your fast.
So the only things I know of that won't break a fast are diet soda and unflavored sparkling water. Any thing else?

Doing 32 hour fasts with 2 keto meals in 8 hours for the next month straight will report back loses, please don't get buttmad at me for not eating for 20 days straight I've done week long fasts before but I'm trying to do something consistent over a long period and have already lost 90 pounds and lift weights 3/4 days a week.

I'm literally in the same boat as you being stuck around 230 from 320, I think the key at this point is to stay consistent for a few months I'm going to start doing every other day meals and see if it gets me past the hump easier.

How do you lift weights on a fast? Won't you lose muscle that way?

I heard at best all you can do for excercise is light cardio, since Lifting weights/HITT cardio on a long fast will make your body eat muscle as well as fat to keep up with your ass.

Yes it does, but you can take BCAAs to help. Some debate on whether that breaks a fast or not. If you're fasted lifting and want to preserve working out I would take them. If weight loss is your thing more and just like working out maybe try to preserve the fast? He's looking for a prolonged plan so I would take the BCAAs. On a week only fasting plan I would just skip working out for a week besides some walking or pushups w.e

Not going to gain muscle without excess calories but you aren't going to lose as much if you lift fasted than if you weren't lifting at all. I've lost 100 pounds so far and while I haven't gained in my lifts I haven't lost any either and it increases your metabolism and makes you feel good in general.

Is there anything saying you wouldn't gain muscle? I mean you're getting calories/protein from your fat stores, why wouldn't you be able to gain?

Is there any point to IF/OMAD than preparing you to long-term fasting?

1200 is probably right for your height, just make sure its balanced and you got a decent vitamins.

I do OMAD with pescatarian diet. No alcohol or processed carbs. My energy is through the roof and my mind feels so much sharper with all that fucking fish. Make sure you eat the right kinds of fish that don't have mercury though.

What fishes do you recommend? I am on the road all the time so i love stashing a can of fish to have when i refeed. Usually kipper snacks, sardines, tuna, salmon, mackerel, oysters, or octopus. I was raised on canned fish and i absolutely love it, but i try to never have the same fish two days in a row

If you really need some flavour you can add some sugarfree squash if you have that, just make it really weak so its nothing if spread out over 5 hours of drinking.

Just finished my first week of 5:2 fasting 5 days fasting, 2 days not fasting. When I eat it's strict keto tracked on MyFitnessPal. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Not sure if people ever post success stories, but these threads helped me a lot. I wasn't huge, but I was definitely over weight and had an insane appetite. I did a 3 day water fast, two weeks of intermittent fasting, and then a 7 day water fast. I lost weight in that amount of time, but more importantly, it completely changed my appetite.
I've lost about 30 pounds now and i've successfully kept it off.

Water fasting got me in the habit of constantly drinking water, and I only eat one meal a day now. I will have a small snack in the morning, but not much extra. I feel happy and satisfied with my single meal.

Go ahead a do full workouts if you want just remember to replenish electrolytes and fasting sucks when you look at it as a nightmare. If you tell yourself that its a cleanse and most importantly your doing if for yourself fasting becomes way easier.

How do you know when you've worked too hard? How do you know if you've pushed it too far?

I started this fast 15 days ago at 213. Today, I weighed in a 190. But I still look fat around the abdomen, and there's still not space between the thighs. I suppose my chest, face, and arms look slightly thinner.

I've maintained resistance training 5-6 days since I've started. I've kept my salts in balance, but have felt very fatigued in the past 72 hours. My muscles continue to ache with this slow, deep set feeling - much more stiff and limiting than the normal soreness you get after a workout.

My fear is that I've broken down my muscles too much, when I really should have only stimulated them so my body wouldn't eat them. Is it possible I've just been breaking them down and absorbing them , thus, making my muscles the source of my pound loss? Is it possible I have a parasite or something keeping my gut on?

I'm certainly slimmer than when I started, but I'm wondering if I've fucked things up royally. I've tried ice baths, warm baths, cold showers, heavy stretching: nothing seems to shake the fatigue.

What do /fast/? I just want to be beautiful.

Been doing fasting for a month now. 24 hours with 1 controlled meal(about 700-1000 calories) and lost 20+ pounds in one month. I no longer feel like a fat lard and I have been feeling much more active than before. No more cravings and no more sugar for me.

take a break from fasting and get back on the horse when you feel ready. No reason to risk hurting yourself just to reach your goals slightly quicker. Your body can recycle cells for things like protein but there are limits to that and dietary protein will eventually become necessary again, especially with resistance training during a fast. You're gonna make it user, even if it happens a couple weeks later than you wanted

01 - 14th I lost 4.6kg/10lb
14th - 21st I lost 1.2kg/2.6lb
21st - 28th I lost 0.5kg/1.1lb

I started going back to the gym on the second week, two hours of weight machines, cardio and cables, fitbit claims I'm still burning over 4000 calories a day, even upped my number of sets and attended exercise classes to push myself a little further. Current weight is 138.6 kg. Don't sleep eat, don't have any drink beside water or green tea. (Peppermint tea too).

Moreso, I bought a pack of keto strips and in the first two weeks I got a rainbow of colors, but for the last week it has been consistently negative.

Isn't the whole "losing significant lean body mass as well as fat while under x amount of calories" a meme?

I was thinking of doing a 24 hour water fast for 1 day on the weekend and then next weekend do 48 hour. Throughout the week I would still keep eating about 3000 kcals and train 4-5days a week with cardio sessions. Yay or nay? I only want to do it for brain benefits for hippocampus and neural growth w/ extra synapses.

Just so you know, Monster Ultra 0 or Diet sodas have no effect on ketosis or fasting. They make you a bit hungrier, but they do nothing to fat loss

OMAD is for diabetics or lean people. Mostly to maintain weight. You could use it to build willpower for a bit, but i'd actually just jump into a 3 day fast right from the start

Not who you replied to but I'm doing ADF. It works out to be more like 36/12. Let's say you start fasting 8pm on Monday. Tuesday you fast. Wednesday you break the fast at 8am. So you fasted for 4 hours Monday + 24 hours Tuesday + 8 hours Wednesday = 36 hours.

I lift heavy 3x a week and still have some progress to be made before switching routines. I'm a fat fuck (around 30% BF) and I want to become lean without losing strength. Is there a way to incorporate fasting without stopping my progress or will I have to accept the muscle loss/strength plateau until I finish my long cut?

You lift to give the muscles a reason to stay. Just do full body workouts. You're probably not going to get any PR's but you can still lift. I deadlift, squat, or row (cardio) every day of the week and I don't appear to have lost much muscle mass if any

Losing muscle on a fast is a fucking meme, at least if you're above 10%bf, I tried the CICO method before and lost more strength than weight, I won't cut by reducing calories anytime soon, and I just had a refeed week and am starting a new fasting week and will keep doing that until visible bottom abs

Cut back a bit on accessories though, was in the gym for 1hr 4 days a week, obviously didn't do cardio at the gym but walked back home for about a 3km walk every day
