My only goal in staying Jow Forums is to preserve my physical and mental abilities well into old age. What are the actual, non-meme, non-broscience simple ways to stay young in your 50s, 60s, etc? Currently 22, fasting 18:6, eating healthy, exercise daily, no sugar, etc. Remember, I'm not talking about living longer, I'm talking about being able to run and do research even when I hit 80.

Dont lift too heavy, train your coginitive abilities, dont have crippling depression
>What are the actual, non-meme, non-broscience simple ways to stay young in your 50s, 60s, etc?
Genetics x F, not even memeing.
>Consume fucktons of vegetables, also probably some nuts and fish.
>Keep LDL cholesterol below 70, as atherosclerosis is not observed at these levels (but is in the "normal" below 100 range)
>Get at least 4000 MET minutes of activity a week. Lifting heavy and taking a minute rest=~5 METs/minute average for the whole session. Otherwise bikes/treadmills can tell you METs and calculate easily
>get plenty of sleep. Possibly? Avoid blue-light late at night?. Block all light in bedroom at night to maximize sleep.
>avoid alcohol, consume very infrequently at most
>avoid smoking
>avoid air pollution. Use an air filter to keep indoor air pollution low- you gain 0.35 years of life for every 10 u/cm^3 reduction in PM2.5- going from bad to clean air can add +1-3 years in murican conditions, probably 10-20 years in CHYNA conditions.
>avoid sunlight. Minimize outdoor time from 10-3pm. If you have to be outside, cover yourself up. Apply sunscreen if you cannot avoid sun exposure. Install UV tint in your car to block sunlight. Pic attached shows the effect of driving without UV tint.
>Live in an area with low crime
>May be correlation, but consider pursuing advanced degrees or continued education. It could ward off Alzheimer's and other cognitive declines
>Drive a safe car- see informedforlife.org. Obviously wear a seatbelt. Reduce your need to drive long distances at night- not only is it harder to see, but that's when drunk drivers are out and most likely to kill.
>Don't kill yourself
>If you start getting weak or off-balance when you're old, try as hard as possible to make it difficult to fall, since falling leads to a horrible downward spiral in old people of no-exercise, limited mobility, being bedridden, etc.
cholesterol is a meme.
As long as you do CAC scans and you keep your artery calcification at 0 there is literally no chance of getting heart disease.
Lots of low-impact cardio, take care of your joints.
Keep your body fat low.
Drink lots of decaff coffee.
Take Vit. D and mineral supplements.
Reduce testosterone; if you are male, castration might give you a few years if done early (but would also probably fuck with your mental health and drive you to suicide, so probably not wise).
Avoid heavy metals like the plague. Anything that builds up in the body is bad news long-term.
Get rich. Being able to afford good healthcare is helpful.
Seriously, avoid air pollution.
Evidence on sunlight seems mixed; skin cancer is fairly survivable these days, so I would actually advise getting some exposure.
Low-level exposure to radiation might actually be helpful:
>en.wikipedia.org
Can't really suggest how to take advantage of that, but don't get paranoid about x-rays or anything.
Look after your oral health, gum disease might be linked to Alzheimer's.
Don't do steroids, narcotics, etc.
Don't drink booze or smoke anything.
Go keto for a few months every year; in rats it stops cancer growth, so in theory it might give your immune system a chance to kill off anything that is growing.
Don't eat a lot of red meat. Do eat a lot of green vegetables and some oily fish.
Occasional 4-5 day fasts consuming only water and minerals are probably helpful. Maybe once or twice a year.
serum cholesterol actually protects against illness, including alzheimer's, if it's the result of a proper fatty acid based metabolism (recognizable by a low TG/HDL ratio and a low RER). but high TG, high LDL, low HDL, high RER, and insulin resistance is a result of an impaired fatty acid metabolism, and increases risk of illness.
fatty beef is one of the healthiest things you can eat, and shouldn't be limited. ketosis is the default human state, and you should restrict periods where you eat carbs, rather than the other way around. carbs + protein is insulinogenic and anabolic: great for building muscle, bad for aging.
meat (and protein in general) does contain methionine which is bad for aging, but glycine balances it. glycine is found in very high amounts in connective tissue, and you can supplement it.
I think meat consumption might be dependent on your genes. My grandparents lived past their mid 90's eating fatty meats, but they were white.
I suspect lots of people pushing for less meat are not of European descent. Euros pretty much *have* to eat meat to stay healthy.
Guess what you don't get artery calcification if your LDL is below 70
how you react to different types of food definitely depends on genetics, but I live in Europe and I've seen plenty of ignorant people pushing for eating less meat. They're mostly doing it because they think it's good for the environment, and know little about the health effects (besides thinking eating plants is healthier than animal).
Do cardio. Countless benefits, among which being the most effective factor in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer.
>getting medical information from blogs
False and stupid pilled
Optimal low-density lipoprotein is 50 to 70 mg/dl
Lower is better and physiologically normal
onlinejacc.org
The normal low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol range is 50 to 70 mg/dl for native hunter-gatherers, healthy human neonates, free-living primates, and other wild mammals (all of whom do not develop atherosclerosis). Randomized trial data suggest atherosclerosis progression and coronary heart disease events are minimized when LDL is lowered to

>rigorous evidence
kek
you don't even know what you don't know, and I don't want to spend days teaching you just so you understand that your idea of how to interpret data and evidence was seriously skewed.
if you actually want to learn instead of arguing, watch some of Dave Feldman's videos on cholesterol, and look into the people he refers to, and do the research yourself.
if you just want to argue on the internet, here's your (You)
>refuting per-reviewed evidence by telling me to watch a youtube video and "do my research"
Le sigh
3/10 bait, you tried.
>I don't want to spend days teaching you just so you understand that your idea of how to interpret data and evidence was seriously skewed.
Not sure if you ever read a scientific article but a lot of whats done in research is to refute or take it a step further without having to teach anyone anything since everyone knows how to do their own research and do another article to refute or take it further.
i just looked up dave feldman and he is a software engineer. you are literally listening to some guy with a blog
In order:

>avoid drugs
>eat some fish
>lower your stress

>dermaroll
>retinoid products
> Remove animal products from diet
> Do cardio
> Stretch/Yoga/Pilates everyday
>being able to run and do research at 80
why the fuck, at that point in your life, would you still want to work your ass off? I would hope I can just sit around everyday and only worry about grocery shopping at that point in my life
let me guess, you think you would be happy if you had enough money to just sit on a beach and drink mojitos for the rest of your life right?
Not op but I want to be able to run when I'm 90. And given my genetics(many relatives over 100) and everything I do for health I think it's very likely.
>i hate my life! All i do is sit around drinking mojitos on the beach
I heard this being said all the time!
let me guess, you are still in grade school and think you can stay invincible for the rest of your life right?
Not op but I want to be able to do whatever the fuck i want when I'm 90. And given my genetics(many relatives over 100) and everything I do for money I think it's very likely.
Because some people have motivation and ambition? There’s a reason most people shrivel up and die so quickly after retirement with nothing to do
engineers are unironically the best people to listen to when compiling research data. They have no med school indoctrination so all they look at is data and results.
based strokeposter
>so all they look at is data and results.
So do research scientists.... We aren't talking about med students here. Also, the research scientists get help from mathematicians who studied probabilities and statistics their whole lives when analyzing results and stating their conclusions.
>cholesterol
He said no broscience you moron
yeah you are right, I've been hearing about all those celebrities that made easy millions and are super happy and satisfied with their lives. They don't need to do any drugs to get some modicum of excitement or escapism. They also have such low suicide and overdose rates. Man, money really does make you happy after all.
>engineers are unironically the bes- PFFFTTT HAHAHHAHAHA
I'm talking about interpreting the overall status of scientific research. Most people don't understand how badly biased scientific research is, or how to weigh research against (logical) arguments.
give this a watch youtube.com
that's an actual ad-hominem

>Because some people have motivation and ambition?
I didn't know working your whole life saving money and raising a family so that you could one day retire wasn't considered ambition. I now realize all these people are just lazy with all the work they put in.
>There's a reason
And whats that?
>comparing people who work for a living and people who retired
You are a very special kind of stupid
>scientific research is badly biased
>somehow scientific research has created everything user is using inside of his home
its a miracle we were able to create all the things we have right now even though scientific research is soooo biased. Amiright?
>see my top response
why didn't you just post your specific response you wanted me to see instead of having me guess who the fuck you are?
here's your last (You)
go troll somewhere else
Meditation will do wonders for you. The decrease in anxiety and the abiltiy to function well under stress, while falling asleep faster will help you to stay young. Read the book the mind illuminated to get started.
>denies science
>uses a computer
Troll or actual retard. Can't tell actually.
top response in the same post...
I meditated for two years straight, everyday, one hour session every day. The only thing it helped me do is to lucid dream 3-4 times a week. All of these "benefits" people talk about is just bullshit to be honest. If you are truly honest with yourself, it does nothing for you. But what do I know? I only did it for 2 years straight. The "benefits" are all taken from people who did it longer than I did and for longer sessions, right?
this video has nothing to do with the overall status of scientific research...
maybe you did it wrong.
I've been doing it for 5 months and the difference is huge.
it definitely does. just watch it.
Because retirement is a meme that destroys economies and psyche
