Starting strength and stronglifts 5x5 were touted as good beginner programmes for years now everybody says they're shit, what changed?
Starting strength and stronglifts 5x5 were touted as good beginner programmes for years now everybody says they're shit...
I just want to know what a chubby (190 6'0) beginner should do if he wants to cut. 5x5 is a progression program and idk if there would be much progression. I'd want to get to maybe 150 or 140 before eating more and trying to build strength.
phrak's grayskull variant is what im on right now and thats working pretty well
starting strength and stronglifts are bad but theyre not horrible for a beginner, your biggest worry right now should be dieting, finding a routine that you can keep doing, and consistency
Jim stoppani has a good beginer program. PhD from yale in physiology and jacked af, guy knows his biochemistry
Dont listen to Jow Forums you imbecile. Read the sticky, a program doesn't just stop being effective all of a sudden.
Same reason we have a permanent fasting thread : regards came over and started spewing retarded shit.
I'm so fucking sick of them shutting on SS and praising Grayskull like somehow they are totally different.
5x5 is fine, I did it for a month to learn the proper form of the main lifts and figure out my routine, see which lifts I like and which I don't (fuck rows). It's good enough to get you into the gym and get you to do the work, because it's not intimidating. "It's just three exercises, everyone can do that"
>only whatever I think is right is right!
As time goes by, we learn new things. We thought that eating meat was good for bodybuilders, now we know that is wrong too. I wouldn't be surprised if we discovered the perfect workout in 10+ years

Reddits bodyweight routine. Nuff said.
Absolute masterful b8
People waging misinformation campaigns until the misinformation is accepted as fact by retards.
Yeah and a couple years earlier it was all OATZ N SQUATZ. Just the ebb and flow of board culture along with those fasting hungry skellys
Wait... when were we supposed to stop OATZ AND SQUATZ???
We are sick and tired of fat powerlifters dictating our lives.
Just kidding, it's just that we're tired of it. Stuff like GSLP has come along and lots of people like it because you don't fuck around. Two upper body lifts and one lower, which is what most people actually want to do when they start out.
The real issue I'm seeing on the internet is people program hopping and spinning their wheels after doing any novice 3 day full body routine for 3-5 months. They get told to move on but I bet 90% of people haven't finished their linear progressive overload, but they're also sick to death of the same 4 lifts every day.
You gain strength on a slow cut, that's what intermediate/advanced lifters have to worry about. I'd recommend GSLP since you are losing weight because the book has a lot of stuff about cardio and conditioning. SS as the book describes would go against your goals.
SS did not invent frequency training.
Even after 5 months the typical LP volume really isn't enough to keep progressing for most people.
People on GS have the same problem people on SS do: they expect to keep achieving growth with 3 lifts of 3x5.
Because they thought 5x5 would get them aesthetic large muscles when that isn’t always the case.
>take SS but switch power cleans for any row variation 3x8
>add 3x5-12 chin ups, dips and any ab exercise to every workout
>add facepulls if you want
I'm doing this and I like it.
5x5 has worked for me for a while, mixing it up now with 3 sets of 5 reps to handle higher weight and it seems to be working, I then drop the weight down a bit and do 3 sets of 8 reps. I'm progressing
Some retards did BEGINNER programs for too long and wondered why they weren't getting good gains
They are ok if you do more than just the basic three lifts and don't stay on the program for more than 3 months. Beginner programs are just that, the beginning. Anything you do as a beginner will show results if you stick to it. They are strength programs so you will get stronger. Everyone seems to expect to be jacked after being on them for 6 months and eating like a pig.
I'm also doing this
I actually kinda like this
