The thing about fat distribution is true, but it cuts both ways. I don't store as much fat on my midsection, so I get more visible abs at higher BF%, and instead tend to store more fat on my thighs and back, where definition honestly doesn't matter. However the downside in my case is that I store a decent bit of fat on my face as well, and it doesn't start looking defined until I go lower BF%.

Also abs don't matter that much. Not to say they aren't desirable, but the thing is nobody is going to see them when you're out in public except for the beach or pool. The real reason to be lower BF% is to make your face look better.
