if i wasn't an idiot who lived in the city in a tiny apartment i'd want a nice wl platform (maybe built myself since it seems so easy) with a squat rack and an eleiko training set
I have simple home gym but i regret wasting money on it. This shit is way too expensive and basic equipement is just not enough. Do not fall for home gym meme unless you have literally no commercial gym in your area.
> basic equipment is just not enough
wtf can't you do with a power rack, barbell and a set of adjustable dumbbells?
Exactly what i tought when i decided to buy home gym. Once you have this stuff and start working out you will realize how limited you are compared to regular gym, not to mention spending way more time doing the same stuff since you have to readjust your home setup for every exercise while in commercial gym you just go to next piece of equipement.
I have a home gym and I dont feel limited at all. Machine exercises are a stupid waste of time
For a home gym, I'd want a set of Dumbbells up to 120 pounds (There are adjustable, but replacing the weights are very tedious).
Next a Sturdy Powerack that is two sided, so I can place a Barbell in the front, and in the back, so one section for Squat and OHP, and the other for Bench.
I'd probably want a total of 3 Barbells, one for Bench, One for Deadlift and Rows, and the other for Squat
For plates, I'd say 6-8 pairs of 45, 35,25, 10.
Next I'd want a Power Tower for Pull ups, Dips, and Captains Chair.
Next would be a Lat Pulldown Machine that has The Wide Grip, and a lower seated row. Also, can be use for tricep extensions.
Lastly, 2 Adjustable benches, that can go Incline and Decline, as well as upright.
I can't think of any Machine that would be particularly useful. Maybe a Chest Press Machine for Incline as Inclien is quite difficult without a spotter. Maybe a leg and Hamstring extension as well, but desu I can't see them being all that useful so I'd avoid getting them. the only machien that owuld be necessary would be a Lat Pulldown.
All that would probably be around 4-5 grand, cheaper if I get a good used deal.
I'd say the problem with Home Gym is motivation and discipline. When the weights are there, you might put it off, which means your exercises might be skipped more often. When you're home, you generally want to relax.
For a commercial gym, you can't use that excuse, and if you have school/Job, you will be out and about anyway so you'd always have the incentive to go to a gym.
Not really user. I have a home gym and I get through my sets faster, since I don't have to wait for some jackass to get off his phone so I can use the squat rack.
I've got a heavy bag, speed bag, elliptical, and Smith cage that I only use as my poor man's power rack. I don't ever use the built in bar, I leave that for the wife. Only thing I miss from the gym is the sauna.
Word to the wise, if your going to lift at home, make a diy lifting platform. Material cost is under 100 and it saves your floor and your feet. I got a hairline foot fracture from being a moron and lifting on carpet.
i have a bench and a pull up bar and that takes care of everything because only homos train legs anyway
Sorry chum, you're just not "making it" material. If your last-rep grunts don't drive people screaming before you, then you maybe don't need a home gym, yes.
based
Currently looking at buying a new bar because the one I have at the moment came with the bench and is one of those shitty screw together 3-piece things.
>3 piece barbell
>3 piece barbell
those dubs were surely wasted
Strength Shop Riot Multi Station £379.99
Strength Shop Bastard Bar £199.99
150kg Riot Bumper Plate Set £359.99
Riot Utility Bench £269.99
Total: £1209.96
Probably build my own platform
How do you feel about bastard bar Any bad things?
This is just a rough plan, I'm still a commercial gymcuck
Perfect
Expensive though
i heard the strength shop belts are shit, but still curious about some of their barbells
I had a home gym, it wasn't worth it for me.
Commercial gyms are cheap and have a lot more equipment. Sure you can get bands for facepulls and nigger rig some ghr set up, but it's not as convenient.
It's also nice to see other people from time to time and look at gym thots.
Jew
I bought 2029 power bar as it was on black friday sale. Gonna guy atx ram bar or ohio pb later. So far it holds up well on 200+ kg lifts.
I got a power tower, rings, hangboard and a bunch of plates
Wish I had more dumbbells.
S: 400
B: 275
D: 415
But working far far away and living in a small apartment with two other colleagues so I'm current doing this exercise mostly until July when I'm relieved from my duties.
My homegym is fairly barebones. Got a cage, barbell, plates, bench, and a horse stall mat so I don't destroy the foundation.
Perhaps at some point in the future I'll upgrade my mismatched rusty iron plates to expensive bumper plates, but I'm not flush with cash and it's low-priority. Also maybe one of these days I'll buy a home gym pulley system that you just load up with regular plates so I can do facepulls like geoff demands of me.
not a fan of the ohio power bar (or any rogue bars). they feel like cheap toys compared to eleiko (maybe not a far comparison) or even texas power bar.
>power rack + lat pulldown + pec machine + cable crossover + dip station + pullup bar
Are these big boys worth it?
That thing doesn't look steady at all
risk of death just adds to the fun
Now this is a setup
Just bolt it to the floor. But just from looking at it all those bolted together beams are going to creak and shift like crazy
Tell me about the Texas Power Bar, would you? I bought the Rogue Chan Bar, and while it works, I'm missing more aggressive knurling, which I heard the Texas bar has. I also like the Eleiko bars, but the price here is a bit too steep for my liking. I also hear some good about the Rippetoe bar, if that's still a thing. I don't care much about whip or nothing, as I don't do anything more complicated than power cleans. I suppose I'd say I'd like a stiff bar, if I had to choose.
Weird, everyone praises them as being comparable to eleiko (and better than texas pb) while not being expensive. I tried one myself (used by gym owner) felt really solid.
Lets me do everything I need to do
>machine exercises are a stupid waste of time
Every successful athlete and bodybuilder uses cables for something. Machines aren’t even a waste of time if your goal is just strength and nothing else, but if you have any fleeting goal other than strength then cables are absolutely essential.
Plebs. Got a powercage with a poulie and a Powertec levergym. Its really the best gym one could own. Oh and also got powerblocks up to 95 pounds. With the trap bar and the swiss bar I can do anything I can dream of right in my basement.
Here's a picture of mine from earlier last year. Pay the light weight no mind, I had just gotten my hand out of a cast, and was wary of going too hard and breaking it again.
Pretty good setup for my needs, except that I couldn't do standing OHP.
Z press is always an option.
Slav life
Built this 2 weeks ago. I'm looking at bolting some weight holders to the wall, adding a white board to the wall behind the camera and some hooks to hang resistance bands, maybe a TV to cast YouTube spin classes to as well. The lights have Bluetooth speakers but I have a tech problem where I can't link to both of them with this phone. I also need 4 more 45lb plates but I'm waiting to find a good deal.
my gym has one of the rippetoe bars (but there's been two versions, not sure which it is), maybe 7 ohio power bars, a couple rogue weightlifting training bars which are dogshit, 2 texas power bars, 3 eleiko wl training bars (one mens and two womens) and 1 texas deadlift bar. also a couple random bars bought by gym members who let other people use them like a kabuki power bar
no idea about the chan bar but the rippetoe bar has pretty passive knurling (maybe a little more passive than the ohio power bar). sounds like the texas power bar would be good for you.
i know they are also well liked on Jow Forums but i really have no idea why. imo a texas power bar is way more solid
how do you like the powerblocks? why did you pick them over the bowflex?
are you scared you will destroy the floor doing deadlifts?
looks comfy
I find it harder to get out of the house. If I'm not willing to walk to the garage I'm sure as shit not walking/cycling/driving to a gym.
>sounds like the texas power bar would be good for you.
I suppose I had almost settled on it, but mercy me will it be a costly affair. 400 quid from Strengthshop, plus shipping, plus taxes... Oh well, it is what it is.
Re: the Chan bar, it seems like a solid product as far as I can tell, but the knurling is pretty smooth, most notable on deathlifts, and the center part is extra smooth for some reason. I've pulled relatively heavy with it, but I like to imagine that a sharper knurling would help take my mind off the thought of the bar slipping out of my hands... I'm probably overthinking it, but if a new bar buys me peace of mind, that's fine in my book.
Mirin hard, that looks really comfy.
wait, how did you get a hairline foot fracture? i want to know cause i have been lifting on carpet. did you slip or something?
Not him but, for any standing weight lifting position you want a solid surface that doesnt flex under you.. this is why lifting shoes have hard soles. any flex can throw you off. During a 400lb DL do you want your weight to shift, even slightly, under you without it being part of a planned movement? start going heavy and any mishap can cause some serious damage.
>are you scared you will destroy the floor doing deadlifts?
Yes and no. I mean, tiles will be tiles, and heavy weight will be heavy weight, but I rarely drop the bar, and the mats are three centimetres thick. And, well, I wasn't planning on quitting lifting anytime soon, so if the tiles broke, I'd probably just be a lazy shit and leave the mats over them.
I know they're good for 205 kilos, so I'll just have to wait and see.
Besides, the house burned, so when I do get my next house up, I might just choose something other than tiles for the gym floor.
I think it's the same for average lifter, you ain't gonna break those expensive bars, but both OPB and TPB are expensive here in EU. That leaves me with either ATX Ram bar or Bastard Power bar.
You sound weak and feminized
This kills the door frame
That is serious motivation, thanks user
When will they learn?
I want one of these and an adjustable bench and a flat bench. Will I be missing any important exercises with this setup?
what's the part in the back for?
Why have both adjustable and flat? Just adjust the adjustable to a flat setting.
To get people to spend more money rofl im sure.
the cords, lever, and gear systems will break quickly with use. stick with a power cage and free weights, otherwise you'll be needing to replace or replace those moving parts all your life
the best i've seen yet. I ordered a cage like this and it's coming soon, there is a place to add a dip attachment which I've also ordered. pull-ups, chin-ups, and dips are my favorite.
will need to save up more money to buy weights and a bar but i'm happy to do bodyweight stuff at home
rate my collection
yeah with this setup you wont be able to do wallet opens for about half a year
Unironically cozy as fuck
how it uses opposition force on the sides of the frame and movement is distributed between each side
the pressure where it contacts the wood frame digs in and damages it
the flat bench feels sturdier. there's just something I like about it.
I think the wider footprint makes it more stable, so you can pull it sideways without the frame flexing
The gym in my area costs $40/mo, so if I use this for 2 years I'll break even. And I've got the money saved up
How do you break even, that rack costs $1500, and i haven't even added the cost of the barbell and weights.
The gym is 5 miles away so it costs $3-5 every time I drive there. And I can get the rack for $1000

A good adjustable bench too but I can't find a link. Bought my bar and plates from a guy locally. Would very much recommend both the rack and DBs.
Foot fracture user here
I have really thick squishy carpet in my basement where I lift.
Was dl about 300 one morning and at apex of the lift felt a painful click in my foot
Dr said that the soft carpet plus a minor leg length discrepancy shifted the points of weight distribution on my feet. And put too much stress on a metatarsal. Took 12 weeks to heal.
Moral of the story: lift on a hard flat surface with either squat shoes or barefoot
>are you scared you will destroy the floor doing deadlifts
Horse stall mats work great for this. Build a lifting platform.
>squat shoes
NO, the hell will fuck shit up.
Flat shoes like chucks or barefoot.
Hey I'm also this guy and those black 4x6 mats are horse stall mats from tractor supply 42$ vs 75$ for a "real gym mat"
Rate it
Nice bench, nice cage, hex bar, dip station + dip bars on cage, cable stuff, if you have a pull up bar on that cage too it's perfect
Ye its with a pull up bar :) got a kettler c12 for cardio shit. Made my gf lost 16 kg . Worth every buck
> Every successful athlete and bodybuilder uses cables for something.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and most body builders before the 80s never touched them. They exclusively did free weights. Machines are prevalent in the gym, but that doesn't mean they're necessary
>Machines aren’t even a waste of time if your goal is just strength and nothing else, but if you have any fleeting goal other than strength then cables are absolutely essential.
Machines are a terrible way to build strength. They remove stabilizer muscles from the equation. Free weights will always be superior
i spent maybe 1200 on a half rack with a pulley, a rogue bar, around 500lb in weights, extra j hooks and dip bars, AND a fucking treadmill and I've been at it for over 2 years. plan on getting at least 3 full years out of it. that's no more than 33 bucks a month, and there's no lines, no waiting, no smells, no fucking weirdos. music of my choice, etcetc.
best investment i ever made fitness wise and my gains have only ever gone up. your set up must suck
what's the thing on the wall? it looks like some hot bondage machine
thats actually incredibly reasonable for a power cage.
I would've assumed they were far more expensive.
Its for dips mainly. You can flip up the arms
Just look at EliteFTS, you'll see that they can be every bit as expensive as you'd wish, and then some.
It's literally square shaped steel bolted together, as long as you don't go for the big dick pro ultimaxxxx cage it has a reasonable cost.
I've posted mine before. I think I win on budget build. 300lbs of weights and a CAP bar for $75. Bench and rack for around $220.
anyone in the southeast WI area have one of these racks? amazon.com
I built a dip station for it but I can't do dips anymore due to a shoulder injury.
wow nice
can you planche to handstand?
Do you just move the bench is you want to squat?
Yeah. It's just an adjustable bench. I honestly wouldn't trust this thing to hold much over 4pl8. But I don't go below 6 reps anyway, so I'm about a year out from worrying at the very least.
what do you think
I feel the opposite. If the gym is outside, I can better force myself to go (Unless it's crazy outside, like a huge thunderstorm or several feet of snow).
But if the gym is at home, I'll keep putting it off until late in the night, where I wouldn't feel like doing it. Too many distractions in the house as well.
That's just me though. I'd say wants I was settled down with Wife and Kids, I'd probably veer towards a Home Gym, but to get everything I'd want would be quite expensive.
Phil Heath pretty much only uses machines, he says it's because it reduces chance of injury
Why are the bags censored?
Adjustable dbs do exist that take like 2 seconds to add or detract weight via a clip on mechanism, not sure in 120
which ones are preferred? both power blocks and bowflex have some that go to 90lbs
>ending super sets by splitting wood.
I need to up my game.
