When I do hanging leg raises I feel something "pop" in my lower back. It feels like a tight tendon rubbing over bone. It doesn't hurt but I don't want to push my luck, any advice?

Same thing used to happen to me. Work on keeping your abs tight and back straight for the entire movement and it shouldn't happen.

Leg raise retard here, I would recommend supporting your back all the way against the wall, make sure your utilizing your abs and most importantly, no kipping/momentum. Fuck whatever crossfit told you, focus on contracting the abs to start the leg raise, noy legs then abs. Hope that helps

Stretch and foam roll the problem area each day. That's the best way to deal with "snapping" tendons. I used to have subluxation of my hamstrings over my fibula until I got physical therapy.

Only exception would be if you tore a supporting structure, like golfers and lifter sometimes tear the sub sheath for the ECU. However, doing that is VERY noticeable.

Anyone else build abs just through their normal workout, so with OHP, Squats, etc? That's all I've done with some occasional planks and my abs are so strong they push any bellyfat out if I bulk for too long making me look fatter than usual if I go above 15%.

yeah, you get nice abs by just barbel training, most isolations are completely fucking useless and the only effective ones are rolers, hanging leg raises but only when your legs point straight up, and vaccums. if you barbel train and keep bf below 15%, you can skip abs and still have a sixpack no problem

I've literally only ever seen two other people in a gym doing hanging leg raises with proper form. Two out of probably 50 or more. One was fucking jacked as shit, the other was a physio, both out-repped me by double. Everyone else cheats.

I doubt every time I see someone post hanging leg raises that they are doing proper form. After a couple of strict reps the tendency is so easy to start swinging. You either have to not go to a full hang so your abs are contracted and tucked the entire time or wait a few seconds until momentum ceases then start a new rep. Most people aren't even just neglecting those minor details, they're just fucking swinging most of the movement. I do both but at least ab rollers keep people honest.

Yup. I don't do hanging leg raises for this reason. Instead I do hanging pelvic tilt. Hits the lower abs without hitting the flexors. Also opens up the acromial arch to prevent or cure shoulder problems. Of course it looks like I am dry humping the air. But fuck everyone who doesn't like it.

Sounds gay, but keep your legs squeezed tightly together and tense your pelvic floor muscles. This may help.
This isn’t a surprise. The way I typically try and mitigate this is to always do slow negatives. I usually only do sets of 5-8 as a result of this, but I also have a decent set of abs as a result of this.

You have to either do a negative so slowly that you have practically zero momentum at the bottom, or you have to wait while you finish swinging like a pendulum after each rep before starting the next. Keep your arms flexed, like halfway up a pull up distance. Also when your legs comedown, dont let dead hang, keep them straight slightly flexed forward in front of you.
