Fat and weak, do chins and brag about it. On a more serious note, try an easier progression like negative pull ups or negative chin ups if you can't achieve a full chin up yet. Pull up's get easier the lighter you are, but i have seen skellys not be able to pull clean pull ups anyway so there's that.

Just so you know guys , its not that you suck at pull ups , you suck at pulling your own weight.
when i was shredded i could do 20+ , now after bulking for about half a year and gaining some fat , i can do about 15 , i started cutting should get to 20+ in no time again.
working towards 1 arm pull ups , can do 1 arm negatives : ) , anyway if you are in bear mode or something it will be harder , some skinny guys can do 20 just because they are light .

also if you have a powerlifters legs it also adds weight.
if you dont have legs its even easier

I do 4 sets of 12 assisted pull ups. I started at 32kg assisted, this has come down to 12kg in just a month, doing this 3 days a week.
during rests between sets I do a set of 12 dips too.

It's widely recommended to work your back both with horizontal movements (such as Rows) and vertical movements (such as Chin-ups).

No has nothing to do with it, you're probably not performing the pullups right if anything. Wide grip will be slightly harder than shoulder width grip but not to the point where it's not doable.
