Fuck, Jow Forums, learning about these is fucking scary. I don't have one, but am thinking about stopping lifting altogether and only doing yoga/pilates from now on.
Anyone here have experience with them? Seems the only fix is surgery, which is complicated and varied. Seems the best option is fixing it early and going non-mesh to Shouldice Surgeons in Canada like Rand Paul.
How tf did people deal with hernias in old civilizations that had extremely poor surgery capabilities?
Jaxon Jones
Very good question. Maybe they just kept pushing the intestine in and stopped all strenuous activities like lifting heavy objects, letting the younger gens do it instead. And if it got bad enough, they'd just die from the complications. The intestines can get chocked from poking out once it gets bad and then your kind of fucked at that point and have to get surgery or die from your own shit poisoning your body.
Asher Robinson
This is literally the most common elective surgical procedure in the world -> very easy/lots of practice for every surgeon. There are mainly two types of inguinal hernias, a congenital defect of the abdominal wall and aquired hernia. There is no association - that I remember - with lifting. T. Medfag
Ayden Long
Have you had any hernias in the past? How often and how long do you work out? How do you pickup heavy objects?
Lincoln Ross
Oh, thanks for the input. Didn't know it was most common. It does sound like hernias aren't your specialty though. I know you have to learn about so much in medical school and there are so many specialties.
How much longer until stem cells can repair shit like this, doc?
No, never. I lift just about every day, 30 min to 1.5 hrs depending on how busy I am. Average 45 min/day. I've been doing pretty heavy (for me) squats and deadlift recently with good form (no butt wink, etc. following Jeff Cavaliere advice).
>There is no association - that I remember - with lifting. >T. Medfag lol
Noah Lewis
Had one up at the are stomach muscles meet the ribcage. Broke again. Was reopened got a net. Swimming and mild lifting is recommended with them after like a month or so depending on placement/size. A disc hernia that pushed some nerves in the spine is worse, it can make lifting forbidden for you forever.
Jaxson Green
>extremely poor surgery capabilities youtu.be/Ro9tn-wN9-0 Romans even performed simple brain surgeries. Opening someone up and shoving a bit of gut back in and stitching it up is as simple a surgery as it gets. Granted, they didn't have antibiotics, so the risk was much higher.
Elijah Ross
just don't do retarded cope lifts that add nothing to you health like deadlifts and squats
Julian Brooks
Thanks for the reminder that lots of “medfags” are actually liarfags. What kind of piece of shit doctor/nurse/student or whatever the fuck you’re supposed to be wouldnt know lifting caused hernias? It’s extremely common knowledge that straining yourself causes them even among non-med people
Xavier Martin
You need to remember that hernias develop slowly and you can't get a sudden strangulated intestine sticking out inside your stomach.
Hernia surgeries are the most common surgery performed on men and have high success rate and short recovery time. If you have to do surgery it will only slightly set back your lifting, though some exercises like squats must be avoided for some time. I had one and took care of it with surgery before the hernia itself escalated. Greatly improved my life.
Thomas Williams
What should I do to avoid it as best as I can? Using belt when DL and squating? Doing higher reps on said lifts?
Mason Hernandez
I've had an inguinal hernia on each side. It ain't no thang. Sucks for a few weeks after the operation and then you have to take it easy for a few months but it's no biggie, just deal with it and get on with your life.
Connor Diaz
Then what are the “good” health exercises then, mr.Hebrew? and please don’t say cardio
Angel Gomez
Just started lifting in January. I was born with an umbilical hernia. High school phys ed doctor told me it wasn't a big deal and not to worry about it. Will I explode if when I start lifting heavier weights?
Was it open or labriopasty or whatever? Mesh or non-mesh? Glad it worked for u. I'm just scared of that stuff.
James Campbell
Just dont lift more weight than you can handle and youll be alright.
Liam Myers
Will u have to get surgery one day?
Evan Reed
>which is complicated Its not >the best option is fixing it early and going non-mesh to Shouldice Its not Please dont share your retarded uneducated opinions you troglodite. The easiest and most effective way is the TEP technique. This is not debatable.
Jordan Sanders
It'll only get bigger. It wont fix itself. It could incarcerate (althought thats unlikely)- I'd recommend getting it fixed.
Cameron Miller
TEP uses mesh? What is wrong with the non-mesh techniques? Seems the body's own scar tissue would be a better source, no?
Liam Bailey
I'd only recommend non mesh techniques if you're still growing, since you will outgrow the mesh. Shouldice and Bassini are both mostly obsolete and only really used in children, since they're still growing, meaning they will inevitably outgrow the mesh. With non mesh techniques the likelyhood of recurring hernias is way higher than in mesh techniques like TEP, TAPP or IPOM. You dont really have any sort of detriment if you get a mesh and i personally dont see any argument in favour of non mesh techniques. Just makes sure you're going to a hernia specialist.
Logan Taylor
>Shouldice and Bassini are both mostly obsolete and only really used in children
I'm fairly certain they would disagree with you.
Tyler Rogers
If that leaf faggot wants to take it up with me he can go ahead and try. Fact is, non mesh techniques are obsolete, a thing of the past.
Parker Jones
Also there's a reason why shouldice has mostly been replaced by Lichtenstein in terms of open hernia repair.
Carson Moore
>Fuck, Jow Forums, learning about these is fucking scary. I don't have one, but am thinking about stopping lifting altogether and only doing yoga/pilates from now on. Don't miss out on a lifetime of gainz just because you're scared of getting injured. I had one because I lifted like an idiot. Went way too intense on my workouts. Don't do that and you'll probably be fine. Ever since I got the surgery I've lifted for several years with no problem, using moderate intensity.
Their balls got fucking huge and they lived like that for the rest of their lives. A grim fate.
Nathaniel Roberts
So when shit is passing through your intestine you can feel it come out of your body and under the skin?
Austin Myers
Have had an inguinal hernia for over 20 years now, have been lifting for longer than that but acquired the hernia from working on building sites, not gym. Considered surgery in younger years but that seemed intrusive and likely to fail, so i have just stuck with careful maintenance over the years, i.e. massaging it back in etc. Ironically, gym work and heavy lifting not only doesn't aggravate it, it seems to help by strengthening the muscle gusset holding the whole package in. I have had a few close calls with strangulation over the years, especially early on (nightmarish full body nausea attacks), but not much in over a decade and none whatsoever since i started heavy compounds around 5 or so years ago, so personal maintenance suits me fine. Your mileage may vary though, since it's a pretty subjective thing, and yours may be less manageable than mine, so surgery in some cases would seem preferable to dying from internal gangrene and sepsis while choking on your own regurgitated feces.
Pic related is principal reason i never had one done- dad had one fixed and reported that his dick was the colour, size and shape of a jacaranda flower for weeks post surgery.
No. For the most part the content of the herniasack is simple bodyfat. In some cases you actually have a part of the small intestine in the hernia which only really contains a super fluid watery acidic substance that doenst really look like what we consider to be "shit".
Luis Watson
>likely to fail Maybe 20 years ago. Definetly back when your father had his dick turned blue. Modern hernia surgery is extremely safe. Honestly from what you're saying i'd say that you got seriously lucky in terms of not dying.
Justin Clark
Jesus Christ, what did they use for stitching? How the fuck did people survive having dirty fingers shoving organs back into their body? Was hernia repair common in Rome?
Aiden Turner
Have you guys tried following CC progression in leg raises and bridges? Both of these will strengthen your abdominal & spinal muscles and help prevent injury in those areas when you're liftan.
Likely to fail as in likely to herniate again later on due to genetic disposition, which was the medical advice i got a few years ago in favour of maintenance vs surgery.
Papa's purple penis was from bruising during the surgery, and that was 7 or 8 years ago, hence why i said it seemed like it was intrusive. I couldn't get surgery for a long time due to having no insurance and work predicated on lying about having a hernia (ex skilled labourer here, now professional in easy job), but now that i don't need to worry about those things, my management schedule keeps it in reasonable check. Make no mistake though, if it starts playing up again in a a dangerous way, I won't hesitate to get surgery, I'm just saying that management works at least for now.
Luis Richardson
I believe they generally used dried chicken intestines as stiches, not sure though
Landon Lopez
So, do you ever do squats or deadlift? If so, do you ever do 3 rep max?
Parker Evans
>Fix your intestines with intestines
They knew what they were about
Dominic Phillips
Are you a chiropractor? The defect is present at birth and wear and tear cause a sac to form and push through. This is accelerated with increased abdominal straining like lifting.
I just did a gen surg rotation for 2 months doing 8 of these a day nerd. >MDs Don't Lie. You would get that reference if you were a med fag, fag.
Nolan Bailey
I don't because I lift at home, but post-op I did for a while. I experimented with 1rms, which was stupid, but I came out fine. I think the biggest risk is when you're doing specific ab work. Just don't contract your abs as hard as humanly possible, only do them slow/controlled.
Jace Reyes
Followed 3x5 squats and it caused no problems.
Angel Allen
Thanks. It all sounds like if you just focus on perfecting form and maintaining full control at all times, rather than lifting the most you can, you will be alright and prevent a hernia as much as you can control.
Carter Ross
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHAT THE FUCK MAN GET THAT SHIT FIXED WHAT THE FUCK
Ian Cruz
Not inguinal but I have just recovered from sciatic nerve pain, I don't have much idea how, I suppose it probably happened because of bad form while doing pendley rows (last time I got the gym was 3-4 years ago). The pain was a bitch, could barely sit down to shit and the stinging pain would come so fast like someone pulled a hook from my spine down to the back of the thigh, for 2 months or so, the pain was so constant that I'm recovering from DOM in my right thigh hamstring muscle a week after no other symptoms from the sciatic nerve pain. Also self medicated pretty badly (I was trying to avoid heavier pain medicine like codeine, thought that would be overkill) while at the same time taking ibuprofen, flanax, metamizol, and other two anti-inflammatory/skeletal muscle relaxers (in the end the codeine was all that I was really needing) Any tips to avoid this type of hernia in the future?
