How much could you lift when you first started going to the gym, Jow Forums?
How much could you lift when you first started going to the gym, Jow Forums?
benched like 85lbs the first time... when I was 13
I could bench 1pl8, ohp like 90lbs, squat 1.5pl8 and diddly 2pl8. All for reps
Barely benching bar on any bar exercise and like 10's 15's on everything else that required dumbells.
Everyones gotta start out as a weak bitch, makes it worth it.
couldn't bench the bar (or do a single pushup, even), bodyweight squats only, diddly some 25kg / 55lb
that what Auschwitz survivor mode does to people, I suppose
I can do 1/2/3/4 now
I waited until I could bench 1pl8 and squat and dl 2pl8 so as to not embarrass myself. Though I didn't actually need to do that.
I think I could bench 95 lbs for like, 3 reps. I cant imagine being that weak again
mobility issues with my knees meant i was box squatting for a month before i could even body weight squat comfortably
my bench was like 95 pounds
The bar for nearly all my lifts
It took me 6+ months to finally figure out my squat and now i'm at 195 lbs and quickly going up
1/2/3/4
(not counting the bar ofc)
I was 12 btw
Couldnt bench the bar, used a 30lb preform. Used a 65lb bumper plates for deads. Squatted the bar miserablu
Was 13/14. Went to a powerlifting gym because my dad said it'd be better than a regular gym. Gym was just a basketball court warehouse with no A/C and 0 "machines" other than one actually for neck curls. Enormous black man caught me trying to stop squatting to do the leg press, RAN up the press, held it in the up position and screamed "I'm not gonna let you cheat your fucking squats!" to a 13 year old child weighing 100lbs. At this point he followed me and my friend to the squat rack, watched our shit form and gave me the tip I will never forget "Stick your ass out like like you're trying to get FUCKED!"
>OHP

based as fuck
great advice too
Boomer here...probably started at about 115 as a 14yo...hit 200 right at the end of the school year. Did pretty well with bench and OHP, neglected squats, didn’t touch DL. Did leg extensions and curls, occasional leg press. Took over a decade off. Now, as a “beginning” deadlifter, pulled 335. Felt okay about that until the other day when I witnessed a claimed first timer pull 300. Dude was lanky and early 50s. Maybe he was bullshitting everyone, maybe he’s just a natural, or maybe like me, he had a head start from other leg exercises. DESU, it was pretty demoralizing. I’ve only been at this seriously for a few months, but that scrawny old dude is in a position to match me.
bench 135
squat 185
deadlift 275
i had an active childhood
I could barely even bench the bar when I started now I have a 80kg bench, 50kg OHP, 120kg diddly, 100kg Squat
started about a year ago
bench: 40kg for one
deadlift: dont remember, under 100kg
squat: under 60kg
Benched 90lbs for 8 reps than my body gave up, thanks god another dyel was near to save me. I haven't seen him after that though.
I could bench like 30 kgs, ohp the bar for reps and deadlift 1pl8 at a bodyweight of 48 kgs
I can now bench 62.5 x 5
Dl 110 x 5
And ohp 40 x 5 at a bw of 56 kgs
Based
>tfw 82.5 (110% of my BW, hence the weird number)kg Bench, 80kg Deadlift, 95kg Squat
How do I get big boy plates for legs? Never neglected legs, can push about double my squat on the lmaopress.
How do I improve?
>can push about double my squat on the lmaopress
Everyone can do that
Bench: 60kg
Squat: 80kg
Deadlift: 90kg
OHP: 40kg
500 lbs reverse grip bench back in my mercenary years lol...
I know, user. It's more the discrepency between normal levels of the lolpress and embarrassingly low squat levels for a year of lifting.
I refuse to use a belt, but should I get special shoes?
based
i've been lifting for 2 months and thats literally what I'm at now..
Same here. Were these the famous noob gains?
If so, I dont think I am gonna make it.
those are my numbers after 8 months
bench 75lbs for 10 reps but im pretty sure most of them were half reps. spent first half year lifting doing half reps and taking whey before working out because i thought the preworkout people took was whey
I may be called out as a bullshitter for this, but I could actually squat 275 for reps the first time I set foot in a gym. I benched 135 and deadlifted 225 (lol) because I guess I was learning form.
I started lifting at 18 though, and I played ice hockey as a goaltender since I was 4, so my legs were strong.
I also spent the summer before lifting doing calisthenics, which may have also contributed to early strength.
Bench 110
Squat 160
Diddly 200
After 3 months SS as a sophomore in college
>not counting the bar
I bet you think 2 means 1 plate on each side
not as much as i can now
stick with it and don't worry about it, just throw some weight on and lets get going lad!
I could barely lift a barbell, much less do reps with it. I couldn't run for more than a couple of hundred yards at a time before almost dying due to shortness of breath. I couldn't do a single push-up or sit-up. Pull-ups? Fuck that. It took six months for me to do just one.
This wasn't that long ago either.. I started working out in July 2018 at age 33, 195 lbs skinnyfat, 6'2". Now I'm at 170 lbs and much stronger, even though I'm still a DYEL by this board's standards. I'll just keep at it until I get stronger, adding baby weights each workout.
1pl8 bench, 115lbs OHP, 4pl8 deadlift, 2pl8 squat, 16pl8 leg press.
I was a 388lbs fat fuck tho.
Jow Forumsing the original pic please
I did the bar only on bench when I started at 12 yrs old. I was at 135 in like 2 weeks though.
120 lb bench press
I did some sloppy workouts before but the first time I stepped on the gym I think it was between 110-135 lb
im 6ft so absolute dyel
how long did it take u for 1234 m8?
holy moly you for sure aren't eating enough, unless femanon in which case gj
sorry for the newfagness but what is 1/2/3/4
1pl8 ohp
2pl8 bench
3pl8 squat
4pl8 diddy
it's an approximation of when a novice lifter becomes an intermediate lifter, also just a general benchmark/goal people strive towards in their first year lifting
I don't know because I started with SL and didn't bother trying to lift my max, I just followed the program and it says start with the bar/very light weights on the various lifts so that's what I did. No point in lifting a specific weight unless you have a specific purpose.
first time ever squat was ca. 320 lbs for 5 reps
bench was ca. 200 lbs also for 5
have only been inside a gym twice in my life
This but with gzclp
I could bench the bar maybe 2-3 times.
I could bench 1pl8 for like 3 reps, I was pretty active as a kid though, often did shit like push ups before going to the gym for the 1st time
I dont even remember when Ive started doing the other lifts, I was a curlbro for a long time lol
Jesus Christ. Are you made of glass?
>tfw still can't do more than 10 pushups
what's even the point
To be able to do more pushups
>tfw when I started I couldn't do more than 2 or 3 push ups
>tfw I can do 20 now
>tfw I'm currently 310lbs
>tfw I'm losing weight
We're all gonna make it user.
Bench 22.5kg for 8 reps
OHP couldn't do the bar had to use a 15kg thing
Squat 20kg for 5
Diddly 40kg for 5
Obviously could have done more on squats / diddlies but I was an SL fag.
Now after 5 months:
Bench 55kg for 5
OHP 32.5kg for 5
Squat 80kg for 5
Diddly 107.5kg for 5
Squat and diddly would be higher if I hadn't skipped legs for the best part of 2 months
I remember being TERRIFIED to put 5kg on either side of the bar a few weeks into training. I bench 110kg for reps now.
i gained 33 lbs though
95lb for everything except the OHP, that was 65
17 first time I regularly went to a real gym. Was a lifeguard at a JCC.
Did machines at first. Got to lmao 1pl8 bench for like 6 by the end of the summer. I was 5'11, 140, but I did have chisled abs and got blowies from 2 girls there and then met one I gf'd later.
Now I'm old as fuck, 31 and am 185lbs and blast 95s on incline for 8-10. Not really that much progress but I never really wanted to get huge since I got into long multipitch climbing and mountaineering. Still lean at least.
40kg bench
50kg squat
100kg deadlift
At 16 y/o*
Literally under a plate for everything but deadlifts. Which was 2plt.
ohp 105 lbs
bench 145 lbs
squat 185 lbs
deadlift 275 lbs
I had done some half assed lifting in high school, and after years of distance running decided I wanted to get more into lifting.
but is that for reps or max?
Well, I started last week and couldn't hold a plank for longer than 15s. Now I can go for over 40s and also do side planks. I'm happy.
Lol what a weakling when I was 12 playing jr football I was doing pl8s
>he thinks it means pl8s
1/2/3/4 means how many bars
Your max become your reps. And your reps your sets.
I could only bench 25lb the first time at 14.
95 x 10 ohp, 135 x 10 bench, 178x10 squat and 225 DL x 10 with shit form.
5ft10 185lb at 20% bf when i started
when i first started lifting i did SS
ohp: 65
bench: 115
squat: 135
dl: 135 (couldve did more)
At least you're improving user. We're all gonna make it.
I spent most of my life sitting on my ass eating fast food, so you're not entirely wrong.
I can do about 15 push-ups now with proper form, and can even add weights from time to time.
As for sit-ups I can do sets of 20 at a time, so there's hope. Just hang in there, bro.
I think the first dead I ever did was something like 280lbs, was maybe 14? Friends dad thought I was fuckin weird for doing it so easy.
Cant say I remember any other lift weights cause I really didnt give a fuck about lifting cause it was always lightweight baby for me.
I still dont understand anyone over 12 years old who cant lift a fuckin bar for any workout.
