The closest gym to my house is Planet Fitness...

The closest gym to my house is Planet Fitness. I want to start working out and its only $10 a months and its within walking distance which is great because I don't have a car. I can't find any workout plans for them that don't involve smith machines. What should i do there to actually get in shape?

You’ll literally be fine if you’re proficient or below. Just go hard while you’re there and don’t bother anyone. Plenty of cute moms/cardiobunnies to look at and not as many spergs as people say. Especially in the latter months of the year.

I only want to use free weights

You're already treating your workouts as low effort. If there's a decent gym within reasonable distance from you make the sacrifice and go there. After some amount of time you'll be too advanced for Planet Fatass anyways and will have to move so why not skip that adjustment period?

Good luck finding any

t. Someone who’s only option is actually planet fitness

Do what he does

can any of you cite a peer reviewed study with a significant sample size that supports the idea that free weights are significantly better for hypertrophy?
free weight motions tend to activate stabilizers more, but then again; isometric contractions & eccentric (light load) antagonist contractions aren't all that great for hypertrophy anyway so

you're hitting the same primary muscle groups on the machines as you are with a free weight motion. the short of it is you probably can push more weight on the machine -> which is exactly what you do to compensate

you're overthinking this. need to just do deadlifts & squats in the smith rack because that is all you have. stop complaining and lift for the next X months to a year until you can start going to a more lifting oriented gym

Have fun being fat and weak user

how much does one have to run on their treadmills to make $10/month worth of wear & tear?

The lunk alarm is perfectly reasonable lmaooo, you incel copers need to stop roiding. If you're flopping your weights around or grunting you are WORKING TOO HARD

If you absolutely must, join with either a prepaid card, cash only, or with a credit card that you are ok with cancelling. Trying to end a membership with them is like trying to get a refund from a jew.

Don’t go to planet fitness please for the love of god.
Read the sticky and start a linear progression program.

shut up you fucking idiot

Just do LP with dumbbells faggot.

I'm in a similar boat, ironically the one I go to they don't use or activate their "lunk alarm", lots of heavy lifters and grunters from 9p-12am. It was rare to see that as other ones I've been to would set it off just for wearing a muscle shirt.

assuming you're doing something like SS or SL
Squat - do dumbbell squats
Bench - just bench in the smith machine
OHP - do it in the smith machine, kneeling if needed
Barbell Row - do dumbbell rows instead
Deadlift - you're fucked on that one sorry

Isn’t that every gym? I had a membership at a gym that I never went to years ago. My gf at the time wanted us to sign up and we never went, typical story. They sent me letters after the card I used expired trying to get money out of me. To cancel I had to come in even though I lived an hour away at that time. I went in because they kept sending me letters about collections and legal action. They had the nerve to send me “we want you back” flyers too.

Doing something is better then nothing I guess.
