A very original post.

Can someone explain how Christianity would help me? I dont know if Im capable of believing in god, but I am willing to try to convince myself of it if it would help bring strength or courage into my life.

I follow Christ, not the followers of Christ, Christianity is everything he stood against.

>if it would help bring strength or courage into my life
More than you can imagine if your faith is true. It has helped me overcome tremendous obstacles. You should not underestimate what faith can do for you, but of course you have to believe first, if you do not I can not promise it will help you

It brings purpose to life. You won't be afraid of death anymore, if you are to begin with. I recommend watching this if you have the time. This is the church I attend, it really has improved my life.

You get a free reason to exist and be a good person.

You want to not go to hell. You do want to go to heaven, but mostly you don't want to go to hell.

It's free motivation. It curbs existentialism. You get a free community to be apart of too, probably.

>I follow Christ, not the followers of Christ
That's good. I'm not a fan of the church myself

people will be people
god will be god
"all have fallen short of the glory of god."

You really have to find the right church. I finally moved somewhere that has a church that isn't superficial and I feel is a godsend to the people in my city.

>tfw this year has strained my faith immensely

In what ways? This year hasn't been particularly good for me neither but my faith has helped me bear through a lot of it

Do you mind elaborating on how it has help you overcome obstacles? I have heard of many cases like this (such as ex-criminals or warlords or whoever finding faith and changing their lives) but I wondered how it actually worked? Like, you start reading the Bible and praying and you start feeling better?

Thanks user, I will give this a watch

Mind over matter. Willpower is everything and willpower relies on faith. A man that has given up has already lost and stands little chance overcoming anything. I have experienced what dying is like and others in my place would have given up and died, me I keep fighting through it no matter how hard it gets because I believe I am here for a reason

It's not magic and most people do not experience miracles in ther lives, however moral teachings of christianity can help to become a better person. Faith itself is intimate experience that builds over time and have ups and downs. Even saints and mystics sometimes experience "dark night of faith".

Mom was always kind of a bitch and not really the best person but also very religious l. Always made believing a bit harder
She was always especially hard on dad, especially the last few years. Sometime toward the beginning of this year she pulled the "I never loved you" bullshit on dad. It obviously cut deep because dad's health declined quickly in the following months.
In June dad's heart stopped. Fire department revives him hut not before some neurological damage.
3+ months in the hospital which was an ordeal. 2 bouts of pneumonia, c. Diff. Another cardiac arrest, most of his time spent on life support, etc. Mom only went to the hospital 2 times, one of which she didn't even go into the room.
Eventually dad comes home and it's rough taking care of him at first. Mom still won't see him and doesn't help my brother and I on any way. Sucks when dad asks about her. After a time dad is able to move around on his own and mom can't hide anymore. She starts to act a lot like I remember growing up when things weren't shit. Everything is actually looking up and all 4 of us even sit down for a pretty pathetic thanksgiving dinner. 2 days later mom dies from an aneurysm. Yes, 1 week ago.
I don't know if it hasn't hit me yet or... I feel the most sadness when dad breaks down. Worst part is he forgets she died and so he relives hearing the bad news for the first time. Depressing as fuck.
Parents never made an official legal will and brother and I try getting some of that sorted out we both want to honor parents verbal will which benifits me the most since I was supposed to get the house. Oldest brother who has been mostly put of the picture initially agrees to honor parents verbal will but a hangs his mind completely the following day. Oldest brother is supposed to be devout Christian and all that. Big mess and all that.

That kind of sums up this year. Worth noting that brothers are 20 years older than me and that I have some pretty serious anxiety issues.

A lot of so called Christians are only so because they were raised to be and just conformed to their surroundings. People that truly chose the life are the truest kind. Sounds like you're going through some tough times. Faith is different for each person, everybody has their own way of interpreting things. Whenever I go through tough times I like to think they are tests, it's in difficult times that people often show their true nature. I like to remind myself that there is a light at the end of the tunnel where if you do all the right things and bear through all the hardships everything will change and things will be right again.

Bless you people.
Going to confess for the first time in my life this afternoon. The priest told me to come beforehand to talk a bit about how to proceed.
Anything I should know?

not trying to steer you any certain way, but the bible makes it clear that you are to go through christ to confess your sins, not a priest. you can just pray to god right here right now in your bedroom. ask him for forgiveness, and to come into your life. bam you're a christian. god bless you brother, love ya.

>tfw no gf is so intense it drives anons to join a religion from the time of Tiberius Caesar
Strange old world tbqh

here's a bible verse to back that up too
1 Timothy 2:5
"For there is one god, there is one mediator between god and men, the man Jesus Christ.

heading off to bed my dudes

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord make his face to shine upon you,
and be gracious to you.
May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
and give you peace.

Bless you user and sweet dreams

>muh sola scriptura

Church came before the bible son, who do you think compiled it?

God left authority over the earth to the Church not some Kraut-worshipping "protestants"
