I want your job

I use a fitbit blaze

Yeah, I'm a full time parent and student with just a part time weekend job. It's been nice getting 7 hours again, this is a recent development.

Nice! What are you studying? How is your school - parenting life balance going?
I've got a 6yo and a 4mo and I'm going to be leaving my job to go to school in the fall

Mine are 4 and 1. And I'm studying education.

It's definitely a balance, I'm just lucky my husband and my younger sister are so proactive in helping me. I went back with just online courses when the little was 4 months old. Transitioned back to in person when she hit 7 months

I’ve been doing anything I can to get the best sleep of my life the past year and this is what I’ve come up with so far. I share it with you Jow Forums.

>go to bed with at least 9 hours of time before you actually need to get up.
This is so you don’t need to set an alarm. If you are waking up to an alarm you run the risk of waking up in REM stage which feels like death. Also waking up to an alarm if proven to make you more miserable in the morning.
>take 5mg of melatonin
Ultimately, this is optional. but I find it does tend to keep my asleep longer. Plus I like the vivid dreams it gives me. However if your sleep schedule is fucked up from a long night or something, definitely utilize it because it helps correct your schedule if used properly.
>have a cool environment but wear warm clothes (or at least socks) or get a heated blanket and have it on the cool setting
this is pretty crucial in my opinion. the warming of the cool body relaxes you into sleep, it’s been showed in research that warming the feet with socks makes people fall asleep easier and stay asleep longer. I personally use a heated blanket on a low setting (3/10) on top of my comforter. unless it’s insanely cold out I don’t use my heat at all in the colder months. In the warmer months I keep my room cool and still use the heated blanket.
>eliminate sources of light that may hit your eyes while you sleep
I’m still trying to get off the tv wagon. I listen to repeats of the same shows before bed. There was a time where I thought it was the worst thing for my sleep because I was so miserable lying in bed. Then I started wearing a mask. I use a breathable sleep mask and just listen to the tv. after about 2 hours the tv turns off automatically. The mask lets in next to no light. In the morning it’s pitch black until I take the mask off. I’ve found I sleep longer and wake up happier since I’ve had it.

>dial back your caffeine and don’t drink it after noon
if you are drinking caffeine even 8 hours before sleep you are setting yourself up for failure. I can’t stress this enough.
>alcohol
The same goes for alcohol. It’s poison. I’m not some straight edge. I drink and when I do I drink a lot. But I’ll be the first to admit that it knocks me off my game for the next couple days. My sleep is terrible for the next two days. Even while you are under the influence it knocks you out initially but anybody who has experienced a horrible hangover, you realize how hard it is to actually fall back asleep once you finally wake up. You just toss and turn, maybe get an hour of sweaty cat nap here and there but it’s shit. I’m drinking less and less every month

I think that’s pretty much it. Since I’ve started experimenting with better sleep and trying to get the best sleep I can I’ve been generally happier and my mood is elevated. My mornings are especially better since I’m eager to get up and begin my day. If I forget anything I’ll add it but I’m open to questions and stuff too cause I’ve tried a lot of things.

you need to sleep earlier

I honestly hate sleeping with something in my wrists. Shit literally makes me wake up in the middle of the night.

It's 0.5 mg of melatonin, or 50 mcg. That's the amount backed by many studies. Taking more actually results in worse sleep.

kill me please. i just want to sleep through the night

I do nothing special and take no medicine and sleep up to 11 hours every night. What the fuck is wrong with you guys?

They are all nervous wrecks probably staying up late at night thinking about their small wrists or height or some other dumb shit Jow Forums has made them paranoid about.
