Alright guys real talk. Are bro splits and PPL actually that bad?

Brosplits are pretty pointless if you don't have a good base but ppl seems fine

Both can be done right

Everyone who does PPL ends up burning out and quitting, or getting on a 3 day full body.

Life eventually gets in the way of going to the gym 6 out of 7 days a week.

Yeah

The only issue with a bro split and ppl is the frequency
Just do 3 days on and 1 day off senpai

I just started PPL after just doing whatever the fuck for the first 5 months of lifting in my life and that's what I do: PPL in order whenever I can, trying never to rest more than one day in between, perferably zero, but it averages out to about 5 days/week.

I don't think there's anything magical about a specific number per 7-day week, unless someone can enlighten me

Better than doing nothing, but if you are a beginner SS is your best bet till you hit an intermediate phase

Yes for 9/10 people they're shit 9/10 times

I think 4-day agonist-antagonist is more doable than 6-day PPL

ppl for 1 year here, did some full body stuff for about 8months before. little to no gains, just better definition. Should i switch back to something else? What is better for strength and mass? Repmaxes are 90kg bench, 90kg zercher squat, 120kg deadlift. Yeah i have weak legs

Just do fullbody or upper/lower like a neurotypical, non virgin

You could get twice as much useful work in if you train each body function twice a week.
Also you muscle can lose some size, but you will be in a net gain so your muscles will still grow but it will be a little 'taxed'

bro splits are stupid, everyone knows that. PPL is better. However, 6 days a week is just a count-down to burning out, it's not realistic. If you want to go to the gym 6 days a week, just make a day or two cardio/stretching days, or so cable shit for your rotator cuffs, maybe make them ab exercise days, that sort of thing. don't try ppl, it never pans out.

upper/lower/rest/upper/lower/upper/rest is best

My point is I'm training each function ALMOST twice a week, probably like 1.9x per week

The biggest problem with PPL is that most people can't devote 6-days a week to the gym to get 2x/weekly frequency. 4-day splits are much more practical imo

there is literally nothing wrong with any split

only the idiots who write them

What good 3x a week intermediate routines are there? Just do the usual beginner routine 3x5 stuff + accessories?

As Long as you can recover from your sessions and you hit adequate volume per week there is no reason for us to have this conversation.
K, thanks bye
xxx

do greyskull LP til you hit intermediate/proficient and then move on to 5/3/1

>advocating 5/3/1
Fuck off DYEL

>mfw i do PPLPPxx and never burn out
legs are gay

5/3/1 is reddit

I do ppl no rest days and have never felt better in my life

They're not worthless, the problem is that for a beginner, they are not the most optimal use of your time. What is the point in having someone hit isolations for body parts when you can barely press 80lbs? Do you think doing flys with 10lb dumbbells are going to do anything for you? The answer is no, it'll take a long ass time.

Some noob comes up to me and asks what's the **fastest** way to get a bit chest? Get your bench press to 250lbs. Then you can actually go into the hypertrophy ranges (8-12) with a weight that will actually do something for you.

SS/SL/Greyskull is not a meme, the first few months should be spent getting strong, then you can spend the next however many years doing the type of training that you want.

just do PPxPPxx and squat on push day, more squat frequency and one less day in the gym

Depends on your goals
PPL and brosplits prioritise doing a shitload of accessory volume each day, but as a consequence the compounds are deprioritised (I.e. if you do bench and ohp on push day the second one suffers, and you’ll likely end up doing each compound once or at most twice a week). So they’re good for BBing but not great for strength.

This is my routine plus abs most days and I got to say it's pretty good/you don't burn out

What's wrong with 5/3/1? And what would you suggest instead? We're talking after someone gets to 1/2/3/4 or close to it

Some sort of HLM programming, one of the other of dozens of good intermediate programs.

I went from upper body / lower body split (ABxABxx) to PPL (PPLxPPL) and my progress is increasing

PPL is great

PPL is good brosplits work for roiders but it makes more sense to group up muscles rather than work for 4 hours on your chest then whoops your triceps suck for arm day. PPL is just chest/tris/shoulders, back/bis and legs 2x a week anyway.

Well it's not like it's wasted time. Don't tell me the 4 day U/L is "superior" because you do less upper body work and the same leg work because there is only so much stuff you can do for legs anyway.

I work 6 days a week, two of those days I work 12 hour shifts... I was thinking of doing something like this. PPLPP and if I have the time to go in another day do another leg day obviously.

I was doing this, it's from the sticky for about 6 months now. I've had decent gains.
