In my experience, no. Mark Rippetoe says they're only useful for people who literally cannot get into a squatting position.

Squatting will increase your leg press but leg press won't increase your squat.

Yes, obviously you silly. The reason people might not pick it over squats is because the later is most likely more bang for your buck in the long term for overall gains.

Use it more as an accessory exercise when also doing squats and deadlift. What's best is go to failure on yoyr last set of squats and deadlift, then go straight to legpress and do them to failure. Otherwise, the benefits are neglible except for populations that are either beginners or use machines only.

If I used only 2x my squat weight, I'd be stuck doing 20 reps. At the very least 3x squat weight.

why not do both.

I'll do heavy squats, then do some lighter front squats, then do some one legged leg press, taking extra care to make sure that I don't "GOLIATH, ONLINE" myself.

everyone I know doing leg press does them as an excuse not to squat. (seemingly everyone has a fucked up spine?).
Also hate when fat fucks boast about their leg press weight when they probably dont even have the ability to do a body weight squat.
