My grip is becoming the limited factor is Deadlift. Currently at 2x bodyweight for 5 reps Deadlift with a mixed grip, but my grip was barely holding on for the last rep.
Should I use chalk or straps? And if I use either of these, should I switch back to double overhand grip? Is one better than the other?
As you go heavier it's definitely better to use double overhand grip. Try chalk, if that doesn't suffice, then use the straps. Start training your grip alongside this.
Gavin Jackson
Chalk and hook grip. Start doing farmers walks to build your forearms and hands.
Connor Cook
Chalk doesn't help THAT much. I would say get straps (you use double overhand with straps). Not only will you be able to grip the weight but also prevent any possible imbalances from mixed grip, so a 2 in 1 solution
Dominic Richardson
>Using chalk in a public gym
nigga if I wanna grab some weights and notice my hands have white powder on them you better prepare to lick it off cause I will make you
just use straps or gloves like a normal person
Lucas Cooper
Not OP, but when moving from mixed to overhand/hook grip my plates were cut in half. And the hook is never strong enough to prevent slipping after 2-3 reps.
Blake Sanders
Use fucking hook grip wtf is people's problem with it it takes like 2 weeks to get used to it
I find chalk shite. All it does is making my hands burn. It's useful only for singles IMO. I would start working on hook grip until it fails and then switch to normal grip until if fails and then use straps. Add grip work after DLs on top of it.
Jaxon Perry
Do you not bring a towel to the gym?
Joseph Cox
Make me you fucking pussy
Leo Rodriguez
>commercial gymfags
this is why you gotta go to a real gym
Michael Johnson
2x body weight for 5 reps >140lb manlet reporting in use chalk dont be faggot no. you dont need these for grip, do chins or rows without straps but use chalk You wont need these until your lifting 3x bw + dont listen to this fag, doesnt know what hes talking about. If your form is good and you do rows or chins and facepulls, your fine
alsothis guy knows what hes talking about. Use straps only for extra volume after your main set, you shouldnt be maxing with straps if your cant deadlift 585
Gavin Brooks
Chalk just makes your hands dry - it's not magic.
If you can't hold onto the bar with a hook grip or a mixed grip, you shouldn't be lifting it for reps.
Straps are for heavy single compound barbell movements and nothing else.
Jack Gray
Use straps and do farmer walks till failure at the end of your workout
Andrew Allen
THAT IS WHAT CHALK IS USED FOR FUCKING MONGOLOID
Colton Lopez
Double overhand Double overhand with chalk Mixed Hook
chalk should be used sparingly to remove moisture from hands. that's it. it is not extra grip
you should use hook grip and quit being a faggot.
Alexander Williams
b8
chalk then mixed or hook grip also do farmer walks and towel pullups leave straps for rack pulls or shrugs
chalk removes the unnecessary risk caused by sweat.
Dominic Bailey
what if i'm a handlet? i feel like my hands are too small to be able to properly use hookgrip
Josiah Rogers
>mix gripping lmao1pl8 Women are worthless
Samuel Bennett
>2x bodyweight If you can't double overhand 405lbs for 5 consecutive reps you are a grilled and memes aside, the rest of your lifts are going to suffer for it. Add 50 wide grip pullups to the end of every gym session until your grip improves
Brody Bennett
Id fuck you up bitch nigga faggot
Andrew Smith
roidfag fuck off
Hunter Morales
Can someone explain about this to a newfag
Isaiah Howard
I'd shit down your throat before that happened
Jaxon Parker
how to hook grip if you have small hands?
Nathan Davis
I’m actually6ft1 215 lbs, I do 455-500 on working sets. If you can’t do at least 2x your BW for reps you’re still pretty novice imo
Owen Sullivan
If Naim Süleymanoğlu can use hook grip to clean & jerk 190kg at 4'10", you can deadlift with hookgrip
Luis Diaz
>Tyrone chimping out about chalk nothing surprising here
Josiah Gray
gloves are for pussies
it's not even a Jow Forums thing it's a general gym thing
William Jenkins
Depends on gym. Most gyms wont allow chalk, if you can use chalk though.
