People (especially in places with out of shape people) assume if your Jow Forums, you must know about that stuff (Football, Basketball)
Anyone feel awkward when they don't know anything about pro sports?
I know the basics and most of the jargon. I couldn't pick out advanced plays but I can sit and watch with people and not seem like a retard.
Nope. I could not care less about organized sports.
Nah I think it's weird that I know about sports, and it kinda makes me dumber but I just happen to like it. I'd say you're the normal one.
Buy the video games and start watching the games. I didn't know anything about the nba or NFL until I did either. Playing the vidya, game me a better appreciation for the plays, and watching the games gave me appreciation for the skill, technique, passion and competitive nature needed to play the games irl.
The only thing we watch here is football so you can't really not know what the rules are
Sports are a dying medium most boomers don't care for and even less zoomers. Unironically in 2 generations I predict esports will be bigger than physical sports except soccer will be huge in USA because it will be like 60% Mexican by then
>Hey user did you catch the game?
>nah, I used to watch but I'm so busy nowadays I'd rather spend my offtime (hiking, lifting, relaxing, watching a movie, playing vidya) or I had to (clean the house, yardwork, repair something)
>yeah I hear ya man
I don't feel awkward at all when I get asked
Not pro sports really, that's kind of an overweight boomer's favorite topic. I feel kind of bad for people at the gym who didn't play team sports in high school at the very least though.
I know the rules and some basic shit, but I’m completely lost when boomers start talking stats and comparing different players.
and especially fantasy, fuck that fag shit
Watching esports is way more boring. Speedrun marathon kinda comfy tho
Who the fuck legit knows nothing about sports? youre telling me you never had gym class?
it's incredible some of the stats people actually know and bring up when talking about sports
>no one but "some fucking guy" had this many second base hits during their 3rd game of the season during the winter solstice
and surprisingly often by people who are idiots in every other aspect of their lives but somehow have rainman recollection of sports stats
Not really. Just shrug it off and say you don't really watch sports, dude. It's better to deal with the extremely mild social stigma of not liking hockey/football/soccer/baseball/cricket or whatever your country's particular brand or pro sports is than it is to constantly be trying to force yourself through conversations that end up extremely awkward because you haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about and you know it.
Mostly because the tv hosts or NHL website drop these kind of facts.
You should spend about 1-5 hours leveling this up if you want to be competent in conversations.
It's not hard and while following sports teams is generally a waste of time, some basic knowledge can help you connect.
Just as you probably should know who Andy Warhol is even if modern art is bullshit
I think he's less talking about not knowing how the game works and more about not really knowing player names and stats or how last night's game went.
I didnt get into sports that much but shit like bull rush and man hunt is still very fun
Nah.
I mean I know how to play all the main ones, and when major events/teams are playing/who's whipping who, but honestly discussing sports is boring and I only keep that bare knowledge around to deflect small talk into another conversation topic that isn't fucking shit.
Most dudes are happy to talk about cars or big videogames, and most chicks are happy to talk about Netflix shows. Find some common mainstream/"normie" interest you can tolerate enough to get into for the sake of social lubrication, and give the rest the barest attention. But not 0.
Wait isn't looking after your health a pretty normie thing as well as an autist thing? Normies lift and diet, too.
I just can’t get into it, I know that it would make social interaction easier it’s just so boring to me though. I like fishing, hunting, lifting weights, and archery, good enough as far as “sports” go for me.
Literally the opposite. Since Netflix etc. and the idea that you watch entertainment whenever you want is so prevelant now that means that sports are pretty much the last collective experience we now have in society. Also it's never been easier to watch sports in great quality from all around the world.
That's true, but I think I'd rather have every remaining copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special dropped on my head simultaneously from 30 feet, instantly decapitating me, over listening to some coworker going in-depth into their various health problems that prevent them doing X or Y exercise.
You sound like fun
You don't happen to be either a middle-aged white guy or a semi-country twenty-something woman, do you?
What's wrong with that response? It's mostly the truth, I am busy and would rather spend my time doing other things. That doesn't mean the conversation ends you literal fucking autist, it just means that I won't have much input if the other person still wants to talk about the same subject.
I know a lot of it is learned from that way but the people I work with specifically will go back and forth for hours about sports statistics.
Lmao you must be fun at parties
me and my dad like to see how absurd the the stats they put up during baseball games get
>get put on a fantasy football team
>don't change my lineup or fuck around with my team at all because I really don't care about it
>get kicked off of fantasy for good
>friends give me shit for not knowing the name of every starting player on my team
>friends bet money on games, usually end up losing money
>friends only listen to sports radio on the way to work and watch ESPN at home
>group text is occasionally plagued with lengthy sports discussions
Sports are great if you are a mindless drone with literally nothing better to do except cheer for dumb fucks playing a game. I like watching football games occasionally, but there are a significant amount of people that just take sports way too seriously.
knowing the players and everything is great, but memorizing another man's accomplishments down to those statistics is just gay.
same, i know the essence of the game and most of the penalties/fouls whatever but any advanced theory is a bit lost, worst case you just dont say much
>be leaf
>don't like hockey
>don't like Tim Hortons
>don't like maple syrup
>omg user how can you not like hockey are you even Canadian????
Every single time. Normies think they're clever. They aren't.
>ugh god like DAE everyone else is like so stupid except for me god they are like such mindless drones theyre just like playing a game
Only 1/20ths of those normies lift and diet in university
its funny how most sports fans aren't athletic at all
My roomates are the biggest major league basketball and football fans yet theyre chubby bubbas
How do people even watch American sports? Shit is so goddamn boring, and I'm American.
Out of touch murican spotted.
Literally every zoomer outside of NA is obsessed with soccer.
Not him, but I'd honestly love to give any of those explanations over "I watched a bunch of men get paid millions to get professional workouts and training, specialized nutrition and physical conditioning, none of which I could afford, and spend 45 minutes playing with a ball on a field once a week for 16 weeks. Also the millionaires get to fuck strippers on the road and live like kings, get away with crimes, and bare zero responsibility for anything they do wrong unless they really fuck up and torture a dog or kill someone."
I mean I'd definitely rather replay Bioshock than watch an NFL game.
I've really tried to give a shit about sports but I just can't. I understand most of it when I watch but the NFL literally puts me to sleep sometimes. It sucks being from texas, and having a job where I have to talk to people around the country. That's the first thing they bring up
had a good idea, instead of the sad, conversation killer that is
"No, I'm not really into sports"
*dj scratch*
*everyone staring in disbelief*
American sports are a joke desu. I grew up watching soccer but in recent years started taking interest in basketball. I was blown away seeing how much of an absolute circus the NBA is. Ads literally every 3 minutes. Shit rules and refs. WWE teir storylines. Bottom of the barrel journalism.
I have no idea how muricans tolerate this shit. They're literally shoving in as much product placement as they can get away with.
even nba fans know that the NBA is a joke league
When I was a kid I collected cards and kept up with teams, players, scouting etc. And I also played. I see it as no different as playing video games except the fact that people treat it as an outlier if you dont choose solely creativity or physicality.
I only watch boxing/mma. I live in a huge football loving town, so it's hard to make friends that also enjoy boxing/mma
I grew with soccer too. Started watching the premier league back in like 02, thanks to my dad. Never got into American sports, just watch boxing and soccer. Honestly, I don't get basketball either. It's shit and boring, why the fuck do people even go to the games?
I know nothing about sports. And I do mean NOTHING. I don't even know the rules for any known sport. I just don't give a fuck.
Ask me how I managed that at age 33.
This, it’s hard to find others in person who actually enjoy it
Maybe they enjoy it? While you're here posting on Jow Forums they're watching ESPN. ESPN is arguably the more productive choice if anything.
Most people in general aren't athletic at all, so that doesn't really mean much. Do you honestly believe that current soccer, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, etc stars didn't enjoy watching the sport growing up? That they don't enjoy it now? And all of these guys are more athletic than you, random user on Jow Forums at midnight.
t. Emir of Qatar
>Andy Warhol
>modern art
found the artlet
Fuck me, this thread is giving me Vietnam tier flashbacks of high school gym class where I would just sit on the bleachers and take a 0 for the class if they were making us play a team sport because I sucked at all of them, had horrible hand eye coordination and could never catch anything or throw anything properly
What kind of loser doesn't know anything about sports?
Did Ngubu signed?
Nope, sure don't.
>Sports are a dying medium
That's why we have record ticket sales in almost every sport every year, right?
Everyone's crazy about MMA, soccer, football and basketball nowadays.
Can someone explain to me what perspective a female sportscaster brings to a discussion on a sport she's never played, say, us football?
MY VAJEYENA
>watch basketball
>niggers making more money than I'll ever see in my life to pass a ball
>watch football
>niggers get treated like modern royalty for running a ball
>white guys spend 3/4 of the year obsessing over this shit at every competitive level instead of participating in n any form of sport themselves
There is nothing more cucked than modern televised sport. Even Baseball is getting to be a parade of retards.
