I am in my late 30s. I have been going to the gym for 20 years. The gym is a total scam. Here is what I have learnt:
You don't need to lift weights to get girls. The hottest girls I have had, were when I never lifted weights. Posture, the muscle mass obtained from things like hill sprints and swimming and so on, and good diet, are enough. I rarely even see a hot girl with a muscular guy.
Literally every single person in the gym is injured in some way. This is because lifting weights as a primary means of gaining muscle is dumb. There is no way to balance out all the muscles, and virtually none of the common lifts at the gym are anything life real life activities that you might find in hunter gatherer societies.
Nobody in the gym will ever look like the people in hunter gatherer societies. They will never have bodies anywhere near these people in terms of athleticism. Pretty much everybody in the gym looks like a complete retard. Their bodies have morphed into a strange shape due to the imperfect nature of the gym at simulating ancient life. Their pecs and lats rub against their body causing rashes, their legs look strange and rub against each other. Their posture is terrible, their stomach sticks out massively, etc.
Most people lift too heavy, screwing up their body. Humans are not meant to regularly lift weight as heavy as people do at the gym.

The only real way to obtain muscle in modern life is through full body activities like sprinting, and activities that involve an extreme variety of movement, such as building a hut or whatever. This is the only way you can ensure your body actually works, the muscles are in proportion, and so on.
No other animal on earth lifts weights as a primary means of muscle gain. Muscle mass is created simply through the primary means of activity for that animal. In humans, that is walking, running, sprinting, jumping, crawling, etc. It is not created through external load. If this were the case, such as say, creating muscle by throwing a spear, it would create an extreme imbalance in muscles. You don't just think "well, I better throw the spear with the other hand to balance things out". No one in nature would "accidentally" progressively overload. "Oh I better get a heavier spear this time".
Muscle mass is primarily determined by hormone levels and diet, combined with the animal or humans primary activity. The reason many modern day humans look terrible is because their bodies do not work properly from sitting all day, leading to the inability to engage all the muscles properly during everyday life, and low testosterone levels.

You can see the drastic effect testosterone levels have on people by observing those who take testosterone as a drug. I once worked with a girl who was on TRT. She did nothing but some very basic body-weight exercises, and she was pro-bodybuilder level of jacked. Most pro male bodybuilders these days rely on their drugs to grow muscle. This is a shift away from the old days, where it was a combination of drugs and work in the gym. People like Callum Von Moger can take a year or so off, and still look gigantic with drugs. The fitness industry is a scam. It is all about trying to take your money. If you take Athlean X for example, he is one of the most knowledgeable YouTubers. The thing is, he is still trying to con you. There is no need for the complexity in his programs. He just needs to keep putting out videos and giving people a reason to watch him. You can grow a giant chest with just flat bench and incline dumbbell press (I know because I have done it). Yet Jeff goes on about all of these weird and complex moves that simply aren't necessary at all. Girls are sold the gym based on the idea that they can grow their butt and look good. The problem is that the reason their butt doesn't look good is either due to genetics of their surrounding bone structure, or from sitting all day and not having a working body. None of the girls that lift weights even have good bodies.
The same goes for guys. Essentially, girls are looking for guys who have a good diet and hormone levels. The gym can never simulate this. If girls were looking for guys who "lift lots of weights" it would make no sense. There is no evolutionary advantage to finding a guy who does that.

Most modern humans spend their lives trying to get fit. The only reason answer is to return to a hunter gatherer life. In the meantime though, there are an infinite number of scam artists willing to take your money to try to get you there. Whether it is by selling you expertise and complicated exercises, or by promising you everything will be fixed if you go to a gym and lift things up and down. You then start to run into all kinds of problems at the gym, and then have to go to Athlean X, or the next thing, and the next thing. It never ends.
At the end of the day, high intensity full body human movements like sprinting, swimming, etc, are the only things you can do. Combine this with adequate sunlight and good diet and reducing stress as much as you can, and you will be as fit as you can get without looking like a gym retard that is always injured and feels like they are stuffed in a box by their own muscles.

At the end of the day, the gym is not the answer. There is no end to the journey where everything is fixed and right. There is no way to obtain a functioning body with weight training at the gym. Most experienced lifters come to this stage. I know a guy who has been lifting for a decade and wrote some instagram post saying the exact same thing just yesterday. He has now started to perform a bunch of weird exercises, he calls them "unconventional exercises" to get around his problems. He will soon find there is no way around them. OP I tend to agree with you as I usually follow the more natural way of doing things based on our evolutionary past. However I still think their is some benefit to lifting weights, perhaps it is a substitution for lifting logs and rocks to construct things. Bunch of random shit really to be honest, a mix of everything. I mainly focus on sprinting and walking, and when its warm outside ill go swimming daily if I have the chance. Right now im working on squats (without weights of course) 100 every day since my body still cant go down like how babies can.
some redpills: Walking is god tier for posture. Literally nothing better to do in the world other then to simply walk. We are meant to walk for 8+ hours a day, which is why we have such good endurance, not to be confused with the supposed endurance for "running long distances" which only fucks you up and kills you slowly.
Sprinting is all the upper body work I need. Although I do think that it wouldnt hurt to do something like overhead press since to me it seems like a pretty natural movement. Every sprinter has huge wide shoulders and just overall look aesthetic

I disagree; some people go to the gym to look toned and get girls, others have health problems and want to lose weight, and others just do it as a hobby.
For people trying to lose weight or remove their health problems a gym is a pretty good place to start off, you're surrounded by people and as you gradually go you learn to become more comfortable and less insecure and at the same time lose weight or gain muscle. If you do it by yourself you have less motivation the social pressure of being weaker around others is a strong motivator, but a gym is just one of many social areas where people can go to improve their health.
And as a hobby, it's just to maintain your health. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to get past your PR every week or month or to get girls, some people just work out so they don't get fat as their older, etc.
I think gyms are generally bad for people who are extremely insecure, who feel as if people are judging them all the time. They will generally resort to drugs when seeing someone lift heavier than them, or workout thinking girls will love gen after being buff but it's just digging yourself further.

Good jump comes from all the natural movements. Squats and sprinting help that the most. Training for sprinting ideally would be on some soft ground such as a grass field, could be sand on the beach even, but grass is always the best. I just go to a track near my house where there is a football field. Wearing no shoes is also very good, and always remember to walk at least 800m (two laps around the track) otherwise you will pull something since we are always meant to be walking around, constantly warmed up. Treadmill is shit since it doesnt go fast enough, and its bad for your legs.

You tend to run a bit different on a treadmill since youre running in one spot, and people unconsciously leap to cheat since youre "moving" at a longer distance if you stay above the treadmill in the air, which creates bad agility which is bad for your joints. You also dont use as much muscles on a treadmill which could also be really bad for your knees. And lastly youre running long distance which our bodies arent mean to do. We're meant to walk long distance instead.

So true, OP. Been going to the gym myself for years. I am always injured, always fatigued, always have pulled muscles, etc. Yet because i don't take drugs i don't look that much better than a guy who builds houses for a living or uses heavy machinery drilling into the ground.
