Is swimming good exercise? What are it's benefits, disadvantages? What should I be doing while in the pool
Swimming?
no disadvantages
ALL advantages
/thread
Think of it like this
You get all the cardio and more from running, natural light strength training, no joint problems
Swimming is THE best form of cardio
>uses all muscle groups
>low impact
>great workout
>can do in all weather with indoor pool
>just have to swim laps
The only downside may be boredom
No downside it's great exercise. Chlorine can be a bitch though
advantages:
what the anons before me said
disadvantage:
shitskins piss in the pool so wouldn't recommend it unless you live in a full white area
>shitskins swim
Not really, but even so, a pool big enough for laps will have like half a million gallons of water that is chlorinated and filtered constantly. Even with people pissing in it it’s pretty clean.
you get bald from chlorine
>chlorine
>in the ocean
>swimming
>ocean
enjoy getting dehydrated by the saltwater
>what is 5 gallons of water in your truck
also if you get dehydrated by salt water you're a fucking cuck
>not getting you're daily dose of sodium from the sea
>not immediately drinking water after
Chlorine drys out your hair, but doesn’t damage the follicle so it doesn’t cause baldness. Also, use conditioner, now no more dryness. Did this myth start because male swimmers will shave their heads/bodies for speed?
>>>>implying
why are we doing this user? Senseless baiting and trolling while we could be out there lifting weight and swimming laps.
brehs... i never learned how to properly do crawl. i can only do breaststroke. when i'm doing crawl i can't breath properly. am i a swimlet?
ur right
just wear a swimming cap or go to a saltwater pool. some of the gyms around here have them instead of chlorine
Learn to breath out under water and simply focus on keeping you head straight. Just look at the bottom of the pool and breath out through you nose. After a few crawls when you lift your arm out of the water slightly tilt you head so you can get some air.
can anyone here breathe underwater?
Also get one of these and train crawling. you have more support when tilting you head to get air.
i thought you were supposed to breath out through your mouse when underwater. i guess i'm retarded.
A girl died in my local pool yesterday, it's gonna be closed for a while...
>benefits
Full body cardio
You learn a lot about body mechanics more so with swimming than most exercises due to how technical it can be
Many variations you can do to mix it up
Low impact
>disadvantages
Very technical if you want to do different variations to mix it up
It can get boring just staring down at that black line
When people get in the way when swimming, it's fucking annoying
I suggest it for cardio. tart with proper breathing and learning how to pace. It's 3 strokes with your head underwater then come up with yoyr head to one side, take deep breath with your mouth, then repeat. Remember to breathe out while underwater.
I really dislike that you cant hear music while swimming also I'm blind without my glasses.
>He doesn't use underwater headphones and listen to podcasts while swimming.
Literally like going for a walk for me.
howd it happen?
She jumped the fence overnight and drowned. The morning shift lifeguards found her floating. I'll feel really weird swimming in that pool when they reopen...might have to find a new place
>Disadvantages
Long-term exposure to typical chlorinated pools will increase your risk of asthma and other diseases
drowned dont float until they start to decompose though
200m easy warmup
1 min rest
200m freestyle
3min rest
50m sprints x10 (30 sec rest inbetween)
5 min rest
100m IM >2 (1 min rest between)
5 min rest
500m hard
100-200m warmdown
This is what I did after some dryland conditioning back in HS. And I wasn't even that good. You can do it, just push through the wall and learn rhythm. Think only about technique, speed comes with fluidity in the water
Push breath out underwater, as you come up keep chin tucked low into shoulder and minimize body roll. Blast out last of air as you surface, keep half of your face in the water and suck in a quick lung full from the side of your mouth. Immediately tuck head and do this quickly enough so as to not break the speed of your stroke. THE MORE YOU MOVE THE MORE ENERGY YOU WASTE, THE MORE TIME YOUR ARM IS SUSPENDED THE LESS TIME YOU ARE PULLING TOWARD YOUR GOAL. REACH OUT, HOOK THE WATER WITH YOUR HAND AND PULL STRAIGHT BACK UNDER THE ARM, DO NOT SWING IT LIKE A GODDAMN BABOON. DON'T THROW YOUR ARMS OVER AND SMACK THE SURFACE LIKE A RETARD. SMOOTH, SLEEK, FAST.
>3 strokes
On a mile crawl maybe. 5 is solid, 7 is goat
