Need ideas to make white rice taste better. Sick of eating plain, bland rice with just some butter, but I don't want to go overboard with any sauces and pump up the calories too much. What does Jow Forums put on their rice?

whats this taste like? never had it
yeah im a cooklet but i'm trying to fix that
i tried chicken broth before but it still tasted too plain, wanted something with a little more punch to it but didn't know what
>Not making it like sushi rice for all that sumo fighter gains, with rice vinegar and just the enough amount of sweetness.
>whats this taste like?
It tastes like what an Indian restaurant smells like.
Salt and hot sauce
>plain white rice
>with butter
Make up your mind faggot.
To stay on topic, runny egg yolks. Just fry up a few sunshine eggs, put them on the rice and break the runny yolks to use as gravy for rice.
>scramble eggs (make sure they're nice and soft)
>saute garlic and onions, add whatever veggies you'd like
>throw scrambled eggs in there, mix it around a bit
>throw rice in there, mix it all up
salt to taste. egg rice nigga.
I use arborio rice for my own version of a risotto
I use it and love it as a main part of my diet because it's-
>Cheap as dirt
>Versatile as all hell
>Can be made into radically different dishes at the drop of a hat
>Makes at least 3 days worth of meals in one cook
>Takes very little prep
>Absolutely packed with protein
Typically I'll do
>Dice and brown whatever red/white meat you want
>At least 1 onion
>Add 2-3 diced veg of choice (bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots, parsnips, white cabbage, squash, etc)
>If you're going for a white sauce, use garlic, black pepper, maybe paprika
>If you're going spicy add chili's, kidney beans, etc
>If you're going oriental, add star anise, etc
>Add your rice after veg are par-cooked
>Slowly add 1-2 litres of water over time, stirring like a risotto
>Add leafy greens or other nutrition foods towards the end
Whole done takes up to an hour and once done you'll have 3-5 plates of food in whatever style you want. You can also make more and store it in the fridge/freezer for the week or stick it in tortilla wraps for portable foods (work, gym, etc)
Beans + Rice + Meat + Root Veg + Leafy Greens = Protein and nutrition powerhouse
Teriyaki sauce is like 15 calories a tablespoon, 2-3 of those can make it a ton better
Oh and for seasoning I'll commonly use pork or chicken stock with the water
I'll customise with whatever herbs and spices I haven't used in a while and skew them towards the meat (white meat or fish = herbs like basil, fennel, garlic, dill etc)
b a s m a t i
>eating empty calories
never gonna make it.
Eat brown rice retard
Practically the same as white rice but tastes 10 times better
i've had pic related at different japanese and korean restaurants. you can find different flavours but it is what they add to make rice a bit more interesting. seaweed is something we should all eat more of because it is full of nutrients and has so few calories.
you can also find thin nori sheets, thinner than what they use for sushi, which you basically just put a spoonful of rice inside and munch on like a bitesize rice&seaweed taco. you'll find them in asian supermarkets but i don't know what they'd be called besides nori rolls. they usually come multipacked in small serving sized packets of 3g or whatever.
heres a vid showing the nori and rice. i'd recommend it, it does taste good.

i have 2:
1. mash fresh garlic, rock salt, peppercorns and fresh ginger(optional) in a pestle and mortar, fry gently in a little oil, add rice and fry a bit more then add water and cover until cooked
2. fry a load of cumin seeds, a couple of crushed cardamom pods and 2 cloves in as much butter or ghee (also add salt but how much depends on whether you are using salted butter) as you are willing to use (don't go over ~3 tablespoons though) then add rice, fry a bit more, add water and cover until cooked.
for both of these I am making a few portions and you will just sort of learn how much is the right amount of water to add so that your rice is cooked just as the last bit of water boils off, i just do it by eye now. pic related is for ratios I've forgotten. 1or2 dried chillis wouldn't go amiss in either of these if you like spice.
>just the enough amount
Ketchup rice is god tier. You can add some mayo if you're feeling like a fatfuck
Jasmine rice
just add glue
sniffy sniffy poly glue mmmm
just eat sweet potatos instead
Fish sauce
Onions, Curry sauces, olive oil and some herbs.
Main thing for me is to mix it with real food. Veggies + meat + sauce.
Stop eating chink food. Get some lenses. Way better for gains, better taste and your shits will feel like heaven.
this is very good. cracking an eggs in freshly cooked rice is amazing.
onions sauce + sriracha is pretty good. alternatively you should experiment with hot sauces.
also if you browse in the spice area you'll find plenty of rice seasonings
Sautéed veggies
Salsa
A little onions sauce
Chicken
Cilantro and lime
Garlic and herb
Curry
Pick one, you can’t go wrong
S-oy* Fucking filter
Furikake flakes, rice wine vinegar, onions sauce.
>not too sweet, not too salty or acid because of the vinegar
Cook it in chicken broth, then fry up some thinly slice spring onion, chopped red peppers and garlic. Add in rice, some turmeric (the powder) and fry for 2-3 minutes. Add in a couple of beaten eggs and stir until the eggs are cooked and the rice is creamy.
Adds some protein to your rice.
How much? Per 1 cup uncooked rice, how much fish sauce?
stir fry veggies with some low sodium söy sauce. how the fuck do you not know how to cook lad
Onions
I like minced garlic and tumeric
Garlic. Fry some garlic in olive oil and put rice in it.
Fry it with garlic
Top it with savor sauce
Sprinkle olive oil
Mix it with your meal
Either of those or all combined
being legitimately hungry makes anything taste good. allow the boredom to help you transcend the illusion that food is anything more than a means to an end. or be a faggot and invest in some bouillon cubes.
Make your rice as usual and add one or more of the following
>green peas
>chickpea
>chicken brot (or prepare the rice with it)
>broccoli
>chopped up boiled egg
>ctrl+f
>"furikake"
yep
>frying
also a big pro tip
>Furikake
was expecting furry bukkake -pleasantly surprised
here is my mom's recipe for coconut rice pilaf. it is the best thing ever
>2 cups jasmine rice
>1/4 cup sugar (tastes great without sugar too)
>8oz coconut milk (milk not water)
>1 1/2 cups water
>1/2 onion (diced)
>whole green pepper (diced)
>either a whole diced jalepeno or chili powder
>1/2tsp garlic powder (fresh garlic is better)
>1/2tsp salt (good without salt too)
>1/4 cup cilantro (must have)
then just use rice cooker or whatever
goes very well with spicy food, or just by itself
onions sauce, white meat of your choice, pink salt, pepper, and some type of legume. there you go; a protein mountain
That seems good. Your mom is a good mom.
hot sauce
jesus christ this thread
unironically söÿ sauce
recipes?
cook it with some lentils or broccoli
also add garlic and onio n s
its definitely better when she makes it for some reason. i think she may have nerfed the recipe haha
to taste you autist, work it out
You eat a mouthful of rice and take a swig. I make sure to carry a hip flask full of fish sauce.
Ching Chong here I don’t know how white people put anything on their rice. I grew up eating it so it’s second nature that I have it with every meal
I for one will never understand how you can eat just plain rice with every meal especially since I'm yet to meet an asian who can cook rice without a rice cooker.
Haha yeah I can’t cook rice without a cooker when I moved out from my parents that was the first kitchen appliance I bought
Did you once in your life made sushi rice? It has to be exactly that one amount of sweetness
olive oil
garlic
salt
water then rice
done.
you can make a pooinloo sauce
0.5l vegitable stock
(optiional) 2 onions diced
garlic to your own taste.
fresh chilies or chiliflakes to your own taste
800g diced/canned tomatoes
400g low-fat coconut milk
3/2/1 tbs (or more to taste) of garam masala spices, cround cumin, tumeric.
(optitional) Diced spinach to your own taste
throw a cup of red lentils in to it if you want, but that will make the calorie count go up. heat the onions, garlic and chili in the pot before adding everything else
yeah the rice vinegar can be tricky
>butter
Use olive oil you degenerate.
Also, add some oregano and sea salt for flavor
kys
Try this fucking sauce right here. Shits good on everything and it’s not that god awful for you.
eewwwwww what a fag
Fuck yeah it's tricky
When you do chicken breasts in the crock pot with various seasonings, use THAT leftover water in your rice cooker.
i have nothing against your rice cooking practices. just your use of words
Just a little salt and pepper does fucking wonders.
These too.
If you cook it in broth, add chives, salt and pepper, and even some actual chicken if you can, it will become amazing.
1/4 cup brown rice
1/2 cup tomatos
1/2 cup black or kidney beans
I just cook it in a frying pan. Actually I have some sort of specialized turbo autismo where I can view food as merely substance I put in my mouth. I eat this 4 times a week with whatever cheap meat I can get at the grocery. A single dollar can of beans lasts me 3~ meals, a single dollar can of tomatoes last 4~ meals, this is my 3rd week with this bag of rice, and meat per day is 3~ dollars.
I put this in wonton soup. Makes my wonton soup taste better. Topped with chili paste
English it's not my native language, I'm sorry for my lack of decent vocabulary or any vernacular incoherence.
Cook it with some mint thyme and coconut milk.
So for 100g dry 400ml coconut milk 350ml water, boil it then pour the rice in, turn to low heat and put lid on for 20 minutes.
Then move the pan to a non heat hop for 10 minutes lid still on. Tastes quite nice!
Add a dash of onions sauce and crack a couple of raw eggs over the top. I eat that pretty much every day just because it's quick and easy.
Yeah same. I only started adding butter recently. I think the confusion here is that OP wants to eat rice as a meal unto itself. Whereas I always have some sort of meat or fish to go with it.
I REMEMBER POURIN HONEY ON MY RICE
Crack an egg in a cup of rice, throw some onions sauce in and you’re golden
Make yourself some bacon with fried eggs on top of rice. B.E.R bacon eggys rice breakfast for max gains.
alright nice one mate, enjoy your rice
i don't know what this is from but it made me kek
Fucking ANYTHING. Cheese, broccoli, tomatoes, even just herbs man( love me some thyme or dill) chilli, meat of any kind, tuna, spring onion, the list goes on and on. If you cant figure out something as basic as rice youre never gonna make it mate.
Try with minced carrot, or with a good amount of garlic and onions. I do like to use nutmeg or star anises. Feels good man.
A teaspoon of sesame oil will make it taste like actual chinese takeaway fried rice. Even better if fried in said oil.
With white rice I prefer putting in raw egg, a dot of onions sauce, sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
s o y not onions. damn you s o y hatin 4ch
In all seriousness, what is your ethnicity?
Whenever I do this and eat raw eggs, I shit my brains out.
>t.whiteboi
Japanese. Ever since I was a baby, my families would spoon feed me this and never had any issue with it. Guess some people can't handle raw eggs.
Yeah, I guess I can try to 'grease the groove'.
I love eating steamed/fried rice with raw eggs, but it eats me back.
I'm a proud white male and did TREAD for 3 months with no side effects whatsoever
you dont eat rice by itself. usually in chinese households we have the rule that at dinner we have one plate of meat or fish, one plate of veggies and some soup. you can add side dishes like pickled veggies or whatever but this is all to est with rice.
>tomato puree
>onions
>some pepper and other spices
you have a nice stew
or
>just fucking fry it
or my favourite
>jollof
Sometimes I add peanut butter for flavoring in lieu of anything else.
>lime juice + salt + pepper
>coriander + anise
>onions sauce
>fish sauce
>ketchup if you're japanese
>replace water with chicken / beef/ veg stock and cook

I'm a fellow Japanon. Parents are very Buddhist so I was raised vegan though. Not really sure I had anything to contribute, just thought it was a cool coincidence. lol
Get a job
Ayyy fellow Japanon. My grandparents was Buddhists and Shintois, but we ate what ever though lol. Are you still following that diet?
