Anything important i'm forgetting?
Ive had that squat rack. Its pretty sturdy and stable. But id buy a power rack if i were you .. its a bit more costly but better in the long run.
i got severe space issues thats why, this one can be easily dismounted and stored under the bed if you have to
>Is this enough
Yes, and you'll be fine with this only. But I would agree that a power rack would be better in terms of safety and flexibility and you'd probably want to get one in future anyway.
unless I buy a new house anything bigger is out of the question. A halfrack is already too much.
Also how is this unsafe? Unless you literally jump 3 feet backwards its pretty impossible to miss the spotters
yes
How about biceps, triceps and back?
yes. some plates a plate holder some horse mats and a cycle for cardio
a pullup bar
curls, overhead barbell extensions, rows
What's a good home power rack? I See DIck's has one for about $300.

TDS (newyork barbell)
I've got this one, and it works fine. I don't lift enough to really need safeties, and I will upgrade to a power rack later. Can handle 300 kg. I also have a olympic barbell that can handle 600 kg, an adjustable bench that can handle 280 kg, and pretty cheap olympic weights totaling 180 kg. And a ez-bar and a back extension bench. And some dumbbells, mats, resistance bands etc. Everything cost about the same as a one year subscription to a gym. It takes up half my living room though.
how important are safety spotters really?
All racks I find that have them are twice as big and expensive.
I mean unless you're screaming and lifting twice your bodyweight it should be fine without right?
find a rack that fits a 6 foot bar. (and then get a 6ft bar)
Removing the risk of bashing your teeth out with the barbell alone should be worth some money.
Not to mention other fuck ups that could possibly happen.
Does anyone have any experience with these folding racks? I park my car in the garage and also have all my woodworking and brewing equipment in there so I want something with a small footprint.
also I know spotter arms aren't recommended for this type of rack but i dont think I'm going to be lifting enough weight for it to be an issue
I have the one in the OP pic. I had to insert a wooden bar in the middle of the red connecting tube because the factory-made maximal width of the thingy was too narrow.
Other than that, add a bench, a deadlift platform, and a pullup bar, barbell and dumb-bells, and you also can get these sick guns.
What if you randomly hurt something though, can happen even with low weight (which is no longer light when it smashes down on you).
in the 4 years i have never had something like this happen to me
i guess i dont train heavy then
dips and pullups my nigga. that rack is fine if you get a little pull up handle for a door frame and a dip station on the side. that'll run you like an extra 80 bucks total if you buy em off of amazon.
but you can do dips on there?
oh shit. i just looked it up and the distance is adjustable. so that's what those handles are for.
yeah man then you're all set, just get a pull up bar.
Link to this one, op?
I'm in a similar situation. I want to check that one out.
uh, I really wouldn't try weighted chins/pullups with a door frame pullup bar.
isnt it boring with so little variation?
dont yuo need an extra cable machine or something?
don't really need to do weighted chins or pulls. it's gonna take you a year or more to get up to 15-20 reps anyway. worry about it when you get there. this is the basic setup for now.
my entire routine consists of the big three with chins and dips added, and whatever accessories i can do with a barbell, like curls for bis and close grip bench for tris. i personally have a weight belt for added weight for dips when the mood strikes but honestly i just crank high reps for 5 sets on chins and dips now because it's better for elbows.
it's given me the most balanced physique ever. all you need to do is focus on the areas you want to bring out. want bigger upper body? don't squat, bench ohp dips and chins. want bigger back? deads every other day. what bigger quads? squats squats squats
it has everything you need. the variation is more for when you are actually fit and want to bring out certain things more. if you're going for a budget setup, this is a great start. it'll be a worth while investment to get you to phase 3, which is what cable shit is good for when you get there.
thanks what a great informative reply thanks alot
If you're not going to be able to have a spotter you should get this. Works for all of your basic compounds and is much safer than just a squat rack or a half rack because it can catch the weight going backwards.
Someone else mentioned that they don't lift high enough weights to need a spotter. You should never really need a spotter until you get into incredibly high weights. But you'll quite quickly, when following a strength based program, hit weights you would otherwise want a spotter for without a full power rack
buy a used power rack
>Ive had that squat rack.
The exact same one?
please show me some pics and tell me how it was with benching. Im worried it isnt wide enough and im gonna hit it with my elbows
I'm the guy talking about weighted pullups/chins, and I disagree. Adding weight is a significantly faster way to get stronger at that motion.
I wish I had the room but i dont
I suppose you could just put a squat rack backwards against a wall to have the support from the back, try not to smack your head against it and die, though.
Otherwise just using it normally will probably be enough for a while. Maybe look into adding some more support to it manually
It hasn't happened to me either and the chances are probably very low if you have good form, but there's always that possibility, and injuries/death from barbell falls are permanent.
but the pic i posted (OP) have spotter arms?
not everyone has the strongest joints, and in those positions, especially dips, you can fuck your elbows up big time with more stress. happened to me regardless of how perfect the form was. not to say i don't add some in every so often, but if i go too hard too often i get tendonitis for a bit and i have to lay off because it fucks all my other lifts.
just be careful with it. if it works it works, if it doesn't, lay off, it's not too big a deal because the other movements will have your strength covered.
where are you putting this thing? in that balcony room? double check the spacing a second time, because a standard olympic barbell is 7 feet long. it might still be too cramped to load properly.
no the balcony room wouldnt even fit lmao
just against the wall left or right
also im not gonna get an olympic bar im gonna get a 170cm bar
Yeah but you or someone asked whether spotter arms are necessary.
cool that'd work too. and buying a small rack like this means you can break it down a bit and move it out of the way if you ever need to. it's just the barbell length that you can't change really, which is why i asked. you should be gucci my dude.
i would advise against it if you can. only because you will grow the fuck out of a 170cm bar's capacity really fucking fast. no clue where you're located, but if you live in the states, dicks sporting goods normally has a 300lb set with a shitty beater bar for 200 or less, and that would be your ideal cost effective beginner set.
european and 220cm is probably too big to even get into the room without problems
let alone use it
maybe try for a 6 foot olympic bar
capacity again is a bit less, but enough to get you on your way, and that way if you ever upgrade you can use the same old plates you end up buying.
OP I literally had this specific exact piece of equipment (even the same colour). While it's ok there's a few big reservations
>moving it into the dips position is annoying as fuck
>the pins for changing the catcher heights are spring loaded (they cant be removed from the frame) and both of mine broke with normal use as they are cheap please attached to a metal pin, I had to start using to giant screws in place of them, until I got a new rack
>In general it feels fine but doing heavier stuff where you load the bar felt EXTREMELY flimsy sometimes
>for the most part didnt feel that well made and gave you a little bit of fear while benching on it
I wouldnt recommend it. Are you based in the UK by any chance? Either way this is the exact piece I had and it's not worth it. Get a better one that doesnt convert into a dips station. You can get standard racks that have dips attachments.
netherlands so next door
how is the width while benching though? I was scared i would touch it with my elbows
looks like you can adjust the width, alternatively just check the measurements, they should be listed anywhere you'd buy it from
yeah i know but the max width is like 115cm on the outside so that leaves what 105cm on the inside? do you think your elbows would touch it?
I doubt it, are you a big guy?
Anons where's the face-pulls machine and the ATHLEAN-BLOXS?
196cm
wingspan? why don't you just measure yourself elbow to elbow?
about 105cm
so it would be a right fit
but this user said it maybe wasnt a good buy but desu im short on money and dont really see any affordable alternatives that have safety spotters
Yeah from memory that was a problem (for my friend who was 6'1") I'm only 5'11" but sure it used to skiff my elbows
fuck im really wondering why they didnt make it a little wider then, thats fucking dumb design for a little longer metal bar
ok i guess ill try to find an alternative but there isnt much cheap that is also as sturdy with safety spotters like that
Ive got that exact rack. Ive squat over 5pl8 out of it. bit shakey but its enough
bands, niBBa
What happened to your safety bars? Lost them?
lol I just took the safties off because its a small space. I put them back to lift. that part is bent because I tried doing rack pulls and the safties were too high. didnt work lol
Is 120kg (264lbs) enough in plates to start as a beginner?
And where's your ATHLEAN ELAST-X, user?
you should get
>4x20kg
>2x10kg
>2x5kg
>2x2.5kg
>2x1.25kg
buy more pairs of 20s as you need
I got the same and storing under a bed will not be that easy. The nuts that connect the red part have to be screwed very tight. Undoing them and reassemble all the time will be quite the nuisance and i guess they wont fit as tight anymore if you do it lots of times. If easy storage is your goal you should get 2 seperate stands.
Also it should stand against a wall, because there is a slim chance that you can tip the whole thing over if you rerack your benchpress with too much force and basically slam the bar backwards.
What about
>4 x 10
>4 x 5
>4 x 2.5
In case I can only afford dumbbells? BTW Is a ez bar worthy or is a meme?
I have that same model. I'm 175 cm and have no problem benching with it. My room mate is like 190 and its a bit narrow for him, but usable if he is careful. dont use it if you are too tall
Did you try using those blocks to elevate yourself? Would they even hold?
Look, I work out at a gym and do facepulls. Please don't rotate me, Jeff
dont need more than 1 pair of plates below 20kg
buying the small plates x4 and some dumbells is a good idea. it only costs a little more and you can do a lot more exercises.
EZ bar is great, I cannot do curls with a straight barbell because it will hurt my wrists. I also use it for skull crushers, which are by far my favorite exercise. So for me EZ bar is a must, but you can get away without one too
I made those blocks to do block pulls from after the rack pull plan failed. Ive dropped like 270kg on them and they havent broke yet
ARE. YOU. NEGOTIATING?
