Im in the process of setting up a home gym, i've already got a half decent power rack, some plates and a few sets of dumbells, the last two items is to build a deadlifting station and to buy a barbell.
My local Gym is a chain, and the plates and bars in there come from Eleiko. Since that's what i was used to training with i priced one of their bars and its next to no difference £800.
More than my whole set-up so far
I looked around and found loads of reccomendations for Rogue bars, pricing their Ohio bar its about £380 delivered which isnt that bad.
Any one have one of these bars?
I live in Scotland, any others you could recommend?
I live in Scotland, so buying from the states is prohibitive shipping wise.
rogue bars are cheap toys compared to eleiko. are you sure your gym bar is the one in your pic though? that's a top of the line olympic weightlifting bar. my buddy at my gym has one and it feels like a fine piece of jewelry. sounds like you are looking more for a power bar. my favorite one is the texas power bar.
some commercial gyms in the US have cheaper eleiko bars that are none the less quality. i think some are called XF
Owen Flores
That's a good question, it may well not be, however the gym bars are definitely from Eleiko, as well as the plates.
Proper competition plates to, plastic coated, in the correct colours and sizing. It must of cost them a fortunate, but they have a ton of members, its always packed and there's only one power rack. 2 squat racks, 1 bench and 3 fucking smith machines.
The other 2 floors is some crap weight machines and miles of treadmills and bikes etc..
Austin Bennett
I tried ohio power bar. It's pretty good, stiff, has sharp knurling and you won't break it or anything. I wish it wasn't so expensive here in Europe.
Austin Hill
How strong are you OP?
Colton Evans
I think that Rogue sells some bars that have some aesthetic imperfections called the boneyard series or something like that which are cheaper than the standard equivalent if you want something that is affordable.
Matthew Ross
In what way?
Currently;
1.5 - OHP 2.1 - BP 3.3 - Squat 4 - DL
Been training for a few years, but not always at the same place.
I used to train at a smaller gym that was pretty much all free weights, but that closed about 6 months ago, i feel my progress is starting to slip.
Isaac Harris
Thanks i'll see if we can get them over here.
I'm leaning towards the ATX bar posted above.
Plus im looking for 2 20kg bumper plates to practice the clean. Never had the space to do them before.

how the fuck do I do pullups in a home gym
Austin Jones
strengthshop.de bastard bar if you want a cheap but decent one
James Taylor
Holding the top of the power rack?
Not difficult.
Leo Kelly
What makes Eleiko bars the best? I've never seen a review, just some random assholes saying Eleiko stuff is the best. What makes it better than say, a Kabuki Powerbar?
Eli Brown
Bastard bar is decent, but you can get atx bars for same price with better quality. Was curious about your lifts to see what bar do you need. You will be fine with any better power bar.
Owen Cruz
>Ram Bar
Based and exactly fucking right.
I'm not sure if it's officialy approved by the IPF but it's definitely to spec and you're not missing out on anything compared to other more "famous" bars like the Ohio or Texas power bar.
Same tensile strength at 206k PSI and almost no whip, knurling that is very rough without biting too much and a center knurl, IPF knurl marks(81cm/32" distance). The finish is black oxide on the shaft and chrome on the sleeves, it's got bronze bushings on the sleeves.
I've been using the Ram Bar in my home gym for 6 weeks now and I'm not regretting the purchase whatsoever.
Kayden Hill
you dont need a £800 eleiko unless you do oly lifts
rouge powerbars are good, but shipping is expensive
strength shop powerbar is good (I like mine more than texas and rouge bars ) for less than rouge. but alot of other shit Ive had from them is garbage so theyre hit and miss
Jaxson Peterson
Thanks, I'm gonna buy myself one as well. Currently on 2029 power bar from strength shop, it's decent for its price. Their competition bars are IPF approved I think with 230k PSI. Pretty good for its price.
Eli Nelson
They are used at world championships for PL and WL and they have good reputation, that's why they have that high price.
Landon Fisher
>2029 power bar get the bastartr powerbar instead. also the only "ipf approved" bar is the elieko as its the only bar the ipf uses in its competitions. youre not bringing your own bar to lift on in a meet lmao
Connor Perry
I already have 2029, I am NEET atm so bought it on Black Friday sale as brother was financing whole home gym. It's pretty good, no bend at 200+ kg and stiff, it should hold up until ram bar.
Zachary Ortiz
Craigslist.
I can not stress this enough
Nathaniel Perry
He ain't from Burgerland user.
Cooper Stewart
The Ohio and Castro bars by rogue are amazing quality and all you need for any compound lift
Michael Jenkins
Horse stall mats for flooring best thing I bought. Also maybe roman chair.
Samuel Fisher
Boneyard bars, most look 100% identical to regular bars and are around 50 bucks off, definitely worth it.
