I'm 6'3 175 pounds. I used to be 240 but then I lost weight and went down to 160. After 6 months of enjoying being skinny the novelty wore of and I started hating the way I look again.
Rn I'm 17% bodyfat, I've been training consistently for 3 months, gained 15 pounds(160->175, but thru Christmas I gained 5 pounds of fat probably). The thing is, I'm super skinnyfat and I hate my body. I want to be big but also have fairly low bf%. Should I cut or bulk? Pic related is current body
I had a body like you basically, i bulked like a mad man was borderline obese (but stronger than non-lifting people) but then i hard cut with tones of protein and i look decent now.i'd do that.

How long? When I start dieting I tend to embrace the hunger and cut way too fast(5 pounds a week), or if I try to cut slow I end up gaining weight.

recomp and make those noob gains, eat high protein, cut all sugar. When your gains start to tail off, cut down to 10% then lean bulk (+300 kcals) until 15%

What are the personal reasons? Just recomp dude, don't fall for the bulk meme. Your body has thousands or calories sitting on it in fat and your untrained muscles can grow easy, no need to be in a calorie surplus when your in your staring position

Anyway, you need to cut until you have some kind of definition. 13% is probably the ideal to start bulking from, at which point you should be able to see upper abs at least. Getting big and ripped usually means multiple cycles of bulking and cutting, but sorting out your hormones by getting lean first is probably the best strategy. Also, you will look better, sooner.

Cutting is easier. I'd say cut first until you no longer look like you have gyno. Looked similar to you a year ago and lost all of it in a month fasting. You're not severely overweight so it should be easy.
