Hello,
I need some tips on how to make exercise a habit. 25 yrs old, I go to the swimming pool 1 hour per week, would like to do 5x5 Stronglifts 2 days a week. But I can't make this a habit, like I did for swimming.
I need to shed some fat (210 lbs - 6'1 height), and swimming doesn't cut it, been doing it for 2 years now and it seems I can't shed fat like I did in the beginning.
Thanks
How to make exercise a habit?
>step 1: force yourself to go
>step 2: force yourself to go the next day
Literally do this until you get addicted and have to go. It's happens pretty quick.
Yeah, once you force yourself to go for a week or two you will start to “require” the pump to feel good. Going to the gym will be your new “normal” and you’ll feel shit without it
How much time you think?
Force yourself at start and learn more about diet and exercise and develop it as a hobby or a good habit
This, but unironically
I would recommend you start doing whatever exercise you can every day. Whenever you're stablishing a new habit, doing it every day works much better, you can cut it down to 3 times per week later. Don't worry about what kind of exercise it is; jogging, swimming, calisthenics, whatever; as long as you do it every single day.
If you're having difficulty with this at first, do it first thing in the morning. A simple trick that works is putting your alarm clock far from your bed and under your workout clothes the night before.
After a couple of months, exercising will be a habit and you'll feel weird if you don't do it every day. That's when you can start modifying your habit and turn it into something else. You can keep the same loop (wake up, turn off clock, get dressed), but instead of going for a jog you go to the gym.
With the right attitude few weeks.
Just eat less faggot
Youre basically asking how to get will power. Its as simple as stop being a pussy and just do it.
Thanks will try this.
It's hard you faggot, already lost 50 pounds through dieting and swimming, can't seem to shed the rest.
>It's hard you faggot
Yeah, no shit. No one said it would be easy
Your TDE went down and you're eating the same baka
Literally JUST DO IT. Set it up as an event in you calendar. "0600-0900, Workout." Improving upon that, make it a commitment with a friend or start going to do some sort of enjoyable physical activity on a regular basis- sign up for an amateur league, start playing squash casually during the allotted hours at your gym (guaranteed partner), sign up for a martial arts class, something that requires you to make a commitment to be there at the same times every day/week.
Protip: If you don't want to do something you shouldn't force yourself to do it.
When you realise that being a weak skinnyfat ottermode (swimmer) is not optimal, and you actually want to gain some strength and mass, you'll find a drive from within to go lift.
I would strongly recommend doing stronglifts as you mentioned, great place to start, get the app and track your shit, it will motivate you to keep it up.
There are only three things you need to worry about, lifting, eating, and sleeping. Optimise those and you will make progress, do your own research on how to optimise them, no one will spoon feed you.
>skinnyfat ottermode (swimmer)
Should I give up swimming in your opinion?
Also, forgot to add, don't increase the frequency of your swimming. Endurance training such as swimming is catabolic and will ultimately make your body adapt to function with as little muscle as possible, consider doing HIIT as cardio instead of swimming.
I think once a week is fine if you're not gonna do any other cardio, just don't do too much endurance exercise (steady state at intensities you can maintain for 30min+)
By accepting that anything worth having or being is hidden behind a paywall of suffering.
For me the beginner fast strength gains made it really exciting to go to the gym and then after they slowed down, I already got the habit.
Read Duhigg's book on forming habits. I've been going to the gym for 9 months and it's relatively easier now compared to the first month but I still have to force myself to go to the gym.
Motivation isn't discipline user.
Motivatio says 'you could workout
Discipline says 'you're working out'
Thank you all.
Bad advice. Forcing yourself, while a valid method to train discipline, is not for everyone. The trick is to fool your mind and body into enjoying the experience. And what's not to like about lifting? It's simple, any moron can do it and you can't fail at it.
