How do I safely do an extended fast?
>Take snake juice, or just supplement electrolytes.

Im 6 days into a sj fast and am about 14% bf. At this point is it advisable to change to something like OMAD to preserve muscle mass and general health or continue with the fast? Goal is to hit 10-12% bf and currently I’m starting to feel lethargic although I don’t feel hunger at all.

No. Lots of people are, because fasting is extremely effective for obese people, but there are plenty of people who are only moderately overweight (20-25% BF) and people who are in a healthy range but want to cut down to abs (13-19% BF).

Based. Are you gonna try for a full forty days and forty nights? I would, but I'm gonna be in Japan for most of it and I'm trying to do at least OMAD there since there'll be so many new things to try.

The Lent season is actually 46 days, because the Sundays are exempt from fasting. I don't intend to eat on the Sundays, 'cause from prior experience I'd rather not reset my fast every week and go through that initial window repeatedly.
I'll start March 11th (Orthodox), and try to reach April 27th. I'm not sure I have enough body fat to get there, though. Currently force-feeding myself to put on more fat. I'll be tracking myself daily with Navy Tape method (my most consistent method) and skinfold calipers (I have trouble taking these measurements consistently). If I drop too low, I'll have to consider breaking early. I should probably not go below 185 lbs, which means I have 25 lbs to work with - which is not a lot of weight to spread over 46 days, considering that I lift and run 6 days a week.

Your level of insulin signals your body to store a proportional amount of what you eat as fat.

The lower your insulin levels, the more of what you eat is used as energy instead of stored as fat.

All three macro nutrients trigger 'spikes' in insulin production, but Carbs trigger the largest, by a wide margin, too. This is what the various low-carb diets build off of, keeping insulin levels low by eating high amounts of fat and/or high protein and cutting carbs.

However, this is where fasting excels; eating absolutely nothing will always be the fastest way to lower insulin levels. If you control your insulin levels, you control your weight losses and gains. So remember, glucose is the key, if your body lacks it then insulin levels drop and you start making it from fat. Your liver stores about 24 hours worth of Glycogen (the storage form of Glucose) depending on your diet in the past few days, so once you expend that store of Glycogen then your body starts burning 100% body fat.

TLDR; control insulin levels by regulating your glucose intake and you can control the weight you gain and lose. stop eating sugar.

yeah, you CAN lose weight doing 3 day fast/1 day refeed, but if on your refeed day you eat fuck loads of carbs then it's going to take that much longer to return to ketosis and back to burning fat. my recommendation; eat one meal on your refeed day that is high in protein and low in carbs, or better yet zero carb.

if you want to lose weight the absolute quickest way possible, then you just fast on snake juice until you reach your weight. you will not die.

if you want to lose weight quickly but dont have the discipline to fast for 10+ days at a time, then just fast for a minimum of 2-3 days, OMAD on zero carbs for your refeed, and start fasting again.

if you can't muster the will to even do THAT, then fucking go to Jow Forumsfasting and settle for shitty 24 hour fasts that make you feel like you're doing something but in reality you're losing the same weight you would if you just stopped drinking fucking sugar.

Losing weight is just calories in calories out, its just that dont listen to the starvation mode or no carb keto memers, if you fast every 3 days then you will lose weight since youre at a deficit fasting longer just speeds up weight loss

So can I lift while fasting for plus 36 hours? As soon as I start showing I am in ketosis on the strips I do 1 hour of walking on an incline 10% at 3mph which burns calories whilst avoiding muslcle breaks down but I really just want to lift. I am already low body fat at around 12% so I am just cutting with visible abs already. But I really just want to commit a 5 day fast and get down to 8% ideally. But the inability to lift saddens me.

How do you feel mentally? If you are good, keep going. Don't worry too much about how you feel physically unless you are blacking out or vomiting. Personally once I hit 12% I'd switch to OMAD but it's up to you.

Tell 'em you're doing OMAD, but always have that "one meal" be at lunch when you're away from them and then just don't eat instead. Families are a lot more accepting of OMAD.
