Here's the deal Jow Forums. I fucking HATE squats.
I like lifting though. I love deadlifts and overhead presses. I really fucking love bench presses. I love hanging leg raises. I don't mind pullups. But I fucking hate squats. I don't want to hate lifting. I want to enjoy lifting.
So what happens if I just don't do squats? It's not like I don't work my legs at all. I do a fair amount of cardio (I'm a serious cyclist and skier, I do multi-hundred-kilometer bike rides, have skied up to about 80 days in a year, etc) and am planning to start running this spring. And I love deadlifts.
I lift at home so I don't have all the gym equipment available, so I am somewhat limited to what exercises I can do. I have a power cage (with pullup bar), bench, bar, and plates. Poorfag with small home so can't get too much more equipment.
If I just don't do squats (but do lots of cycling, running, etc and deadlifts) am I going to end up a deformed mutant with chicken legs, or will I be okay? Is there other leg stuff I can do instead of squats? And are legs the only reason squats are important?
>So what happens if I just don't do squats? You will turn into gay nigger faggot
Camden Harris
if you don't like squats don't do them user :)
Owen Gutierrez
Just squat lol
Angel Cooper
just kys, lel
Ayden Flores
Theres a million different kinds of squats that put the workout on different muscles or place the weight into more manageable planes for your body physics to manage.
Back Squats Front Squats Zercher Squats Goblet Squats Pistol Squats Shrimp Squats Single Leg Squats (Smith Machine) Jumping Squats
I'm new to working out, only three months in, but I'm having fun learning what works for me at my current fitness and flexibility levels.
Full ROM back squats for me are very challenging because I've got APT from sitting for so long, but I can easily do full ROM Single Leg Squats because it doesn't require a strengthened coordinated ability to hip hinge like most squats.
Joseph Anderson
you can make excuses but not squatting will always be a cope
we were born to squat, like our ancestors who squatted lions and tigers in the jungles of africa thousands of years ago
Nolan Sullivan
Do pistol squats, much more impressive than a back squat as they require more stabilization and athleticism in general, you can even do them weighted.
Evan Robinson
I said i don't like SQUATS, you dumb fucking nigger shitstain! Can't you read, fucking shitskin? Why the fuck do you give me a fucking list of a fucking SQUAT variations if i said I DONT LIKE TO SQUAT???????????????
Joseph Baker
just squat more lol
Michael Martinez
Just do the leg press machine you dope. That or just use various machines. Or Sprint
Xavier Morris
Anything targeting your quads is gonna do it through knee extension, which implies a squat-like range of motion, you fucking brainlet. If you don't like all squats period then you're just gonna have to accept being a quadlet.
Ayden Price
I'm a runner and I hate squats. I feel your pain. My legs look like those of a marathon runner rather than an Olympic sprinter. I guess it depends what sort of body you want. You don't have to squat but you have to accept the consequences.
Jayden King
Thank you user not OP
Anthony James
>If you don't like all squats period then you're just gonna have to accept being a quadlet. How about you accept that you are A SHIT and fucking kill yourself miserable fucking waste of a FUCKING oxygen fuck
Zachary Watson
Being helpful isn't niggardly behavior though, Squatcel.
Carson Bennett
don't worry about it, most of the squatcels on Jow Forums couldn't even hold 3 watts per kilo for 20 minutes if their lives depended on it
Dominic Perry
>I lift at home so I don't have all the gym equipment available, so I am somewhat limited to what exercises I can do. I have a power cage (with pullup bar), bench, bar, and plates. Poorfag with small home so can't get too much more equipment
>Or Sprint Is this really sufficient to not have to do squats?
John Murphy
Why the fuck you are pretending to be me? FUCK OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Lincoln Evans
OP here. The guy you replied to is not me, I appreciate the advice given by the anons here.
Are quads the only muscles that squats are really important for? Since I'm a cyclist and cycling is good for quads, could I just do a lot of hard cycling (maybe HIIT/sprinting) for quads?
Carson Nelson
Thank (you)s are the best (you)s. Happy to help.
Also, don't be afraid to drop the weight for perfect form. I was only back squatting 180 5x5 last week but when I asked a friend to check my form he was like "yeah I'll just tell you down and up when you get to proper depth" and holy shit did I very quickly realize I was not going low enough. Watched my form crumple on video when I was doing my last set of 180 trying to attempt proper depth.
Cameron Sanchez
I'm one that listed the different variations.
These different variations target different muscles to different degrees. Learning how to effectively hip hinge has taught me how to use more than just my quads to engage out of the bottom of the squat. The hip hinge is literally the key to everything, the mind to muscle connection has been a journey of it's own.
Lincoln Peterson
If you're not gonna do free weight squats, at least do hack squats and leg press. Dorian Yates and Jay Cutlet didn't do many squats.
That being said, you really should do them. They use half the muscle fibres in your body, boost test and GH levels, develop posterior chain and core strength which carries over to all other lifts, force you to learn how to properly brace which carries over to all other lifts, and are the single best mass and strength builder for legs. Not to mention the discipline you gain from doing an exercise that's outside your comfort zone.
Running and skiing will absolutely not approach the levels of hypertrophy and muscle fibre requirement of resistance training will.
Tl;dr -- suck it up and do squats. There's a reason hating leg day is a meme, it's the least fun day. Waiting in line isn't fun either but it's part of going to Disneyland. Eating girls out is gay but it's part of sex. Feeding your dog and picking up its shit is part of having a dog.
Nathaniel Ward
squats are good for the knees and stabilisers and will protect you from hurting yourself skiing later in life
if you hate them you might be physically better suited to front squats
Andrew Kelly
theyre all different exercises. do you even lift?
Kayden Nguyen
Thanks anons, I'll probably just do some squats even though they suck but just not do them as much as the lifts I like more >There's a reason hating leg day is a meme, it's the least fun day I actually enjoy deadlifting though, it's just squats I don't like
Nicholas Flores
>>I lift at home so I don't have all the gym equipment available, so I am somewhat limited to what exercises I can do. I have a power cage (with pullup bar), bench, bar, and plates. Poorfag with small home so can't get too much more equipment
Do leg press, leg extensions and hip thrusts. Anything that targets quads and glutes really.
Hunter Lewis
Whom
James Sanchez
I hated squats too till i found that there's 'high bar' and 'low bar', once i tried low bar i stopped hating squatting. fuck people teaching high bar
Noah Gutierrez
>Full ROM back squats for me are very challenging because I've got APT from sitting for so lon That is highly questionable. Everyone has some degree of APT and very very very rarely is it so severe that it actually has negative impact on a person doing lifting. You should be highly critical of fitness guru's telling you that you have APT and other various postural issues.
Isaac Thompson
>So what happens if I just don't do squats
You end up like every other random gymbro who peaks at a lmao2pl8 bench and never progresses further in his entire adult life
Nicholas Taylor
The OP showing that the user shouldn't be recommending using exercise machines
Connor Reyes
FUUUCKKKK YOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Colton Bailey
lol, fuck those idiots who think that you HAVE to do squats
fuck training legs - if you don't like it, don't do it
I also do this shit for fun, so fuck legs I work them enough while boxing and swimming, who cares
