Is Boxing and Weightlifting a good combo?
Is Boxing and Weightlifting a good combo?
go, try and report back
no; lots of cardio from boxing will mess gains
Started lifting 2 months ago 1 month ago I added one boxing training a week. Stanina, agility and endurance skyrocket No sparings tho, I wanna keep my brain intact.
I don't see why not as long as you're eating enough to sustain it OP
This is stupid
Why do you fags always assume anyone lifting weights is trying to become a bloatlord? More exercise is pretty much universally a good thing up to the point the body is overworked or injured.
This
Yes, but remember to stretch and have explosive variations in your program. The biggest cons of weightlifting are loss of flexibility and speed, but contrary to common belief, both are easily avoided by minor adjustments.
Yes, but also you MUST eat a lot and eat really clean, and sleep at least 8 hours a night. Trust me, without it you will be fucked
you cant manage it at high levels unless you have tons of free time.
the real problem comes when you have to loosen up from all the stiffness from lifting. you cant really afford to get heavy either.
its fine if youre using boxing to supplement weightlifting or weightlifting to supplement boxing, but its not like you're going to excel at both.
Not OP but i’m wondering-is it the same as lifting+muay thai?
So if I do stuff like box jumps, cleans, etc... along with some static and dynamic stretches I’m good to go?
Yes
Put it simply yeah.
I box 4 nights a week sparring on one and circuits and drills the rest. With this the daily running and sprint days and a day job I don't have much energy or time for lifting. I've tried it generally had a knock on effect on training especially sparring and recovery.
You can't do everything shitty or a few things well.
I should add I have considered Peds for the decreased recovery alone.
Have boxed. It seems really hard to be anything but super lean if u train boxing. That being said a lot of pros are massive somehow. Go figure. Plus a lot of ex boxers that coach get into weights and look pretty swol, but that's after they've retired from competition
Peds help.
Be me, a 6ft 155lb lanket @ 18 (not anorexic) but I don’t think me getting leaner will do me any favours

How does someone who's never boxed get into boxing?
Walks to a boxing gym
Whats the male-female ratio in most kickboxing/boxing/jiu jitsu gyms? Thinking of doing on of these with yoga after I graduate
No
Depends a lot on the gym. I'd say more men train for competition. Some gyms run a lot of fitness courses tho, and they can be mainly women. Very accessible sport for women tho if they want to get involved, imo
Whats the culture like? Is it like gym culture where everyone comes to lift with headphones on does their stuff and leaves or is it more of a sport team culture where people form bonds with the people they train with.
I box and this is the battle, not from lifting but excercise like roadwork, swimming and boxing itself. Way I see it you can train to box or train to look good and play at boxing.
Best gyms I've been to are boxing gyms, everyone's helpful if you're willing to learn.
>*boxing is a sport*
>does it have a sports culture?
Weightlifting must be bespoke- powerlifting/CrossFit will not transfer as well as other approaches.
Yes & yes.
For kickboxing if it is semi contact point fighting style kickboxing there are tons of women at my gym (especially classes that have female coaches). If it goes more towards full contact it tends to be mostly men though.
You do a lot of exercises with a partner so unless you are turbo autistic there will be some social component.
All fighters do some form of weightlifting, even strikers. Squats, bench pressing, and OHP are still important.
This is what I mean, like doing a 5x5 with the training
i mean, you could. your progress will just be painfully slow at a certain point. you'll either lift weights just to maintain strength instead of gaining it, or you need to cut down on boxing training. it's a matter of priority. try to do both at a high level and you'll suffer
imo the culture is way better than any weightlifting gym if that's what you're wondering. People can be helpful and nice at the gym too but there's generally a happier and friendlier atmosphere in martial arts gyms. I've trained MMA in two different places and both have been very positive experiences. Got some good friends and training partners tho I didn't know anyone when I started. Highly recommend you try it out.
The best training of my life was as a 16 year old boxer, dunno if you should supplement with weights or not ask, your senpai. Lifting weights is for fags anyways. Atleast boxing teaches you how to throw a mean hook
>
Generally no beyond a certain degree. Look at boxer's workouts, not much lifting. I do both, but it's usefulness to boxing isn't huge. Some guys are jacked, but usually only heavyweights. As you move down in weight, the power gained by having extra mass tends to be less useful than the increased endurance and speed. If you aren't serious about competing though, go for it.
it is god tier user, do it. and get a real fucking trainer...you arent going to learn how to box properly watching some tool on jewtube
t. retarded faggot
boxing is anaerobic and it will fucking cut your shoulders/arms/traps and build a core like youve never thought possible
That's literally why combat sport athletes are on gear m8
