depression

Being bored. Though if you have some menial labor to do outside like in that image you will have a very relaxing time and maybe learn to appreciate the little things more. When I did my military service I re discovered that absolute joy of being happy about the smallest things, due to everything else kind of sucking ass.

Retardation

nothing remotely good, it's a last ditch effort for people who have no discipline. Just develop self control through normal means.

A total reset

Been seeing this thread a lot the last few days since anti food man made that video on it/pic related was posted the other day

I’d like to do one too. I mean fuck that guys video I’m gonna eat, but I think I could benefit from learning to use my phone/computer way less than I currently do. As well as stop fapping so much and drinking so much coffee. It’s shit I’ve been wanting to do anyway, if a week of abstaining from all that could help jump start it then he’ll yeah

>people who have no discipline
Do you know where you are? People here f5 the catalog for hours a day

this

it does work theorically but

it's also a slippery slope you can dig a hole bigger than you can escape

>implying doing this in one day will cause any changes

Us goyim were truly meant to be controlled

Give me a rundown wtf is a dopamine fast?

I'm starting this in the morning. I'm still going to eat, but my food will be bland. It's midnight here so i'm close to starting and i'm pretty nervous. I'm going to try and read a few books and meditate, reading is hard because I have OCD and ADHD so i'm hoping this actually helps those things. I'm not going to go to my gym because it plays loud music, and also I know too many people that would try to talk to me. I'll be back next monday and make a thread about it so look out for that. Wish me luck lads

Abstaining from anything enjoyable. I assume its to make you appreciate things more afterwards. Like if you ate ice cream every day it would be boring shit, but if you ate it once a month then it would be much more enjoyable.

Extreme boredom.

I tried the other day and caved because I couldn’t start my day without coffee. But I hear you on the ocd and adhd. Same here man. I’m hoping for the same as you. I have a stack of books but it’s hard for me to focus for more than 5-10 pages these days. I wanna be able to get sucked into a book and not realize hours went by like when I was a teen. I haven’t even read a book in years

Just doing it for three days was enough to kick start a whole month of building better habits. A week will probably drive you insane. I couldn't contain all of my thoughts. I just had to start changing my life.

Good luck man. I'm not too bad for this (I think) but I might also try it if it seems feasible. I hope it works out for you!

Me too man, I have a ton of unread books on my shelf. i get really interested in a book I hear about and buy it and after a few pages of reading the same sentences over and over and the information not even sinking in I give up. My OCD has gotten to worse than it's ever been so this seems worth a try. I was feeling really shit today and was thinking of cancelling it but this thread has saved me. I'm glad there's someone else with my problems, I hope you you see my thread on monday when i'm done. You'll be one of my reasons to keep going when I want to quit. OCD is tiring as fuck and ADHD makes me feel inadequate and doubt myself like hell. I want to fix myself man.

thanks man!

Quads will it.

Hey bro I’ve pretty much eliminated my ocd, atleast it’s now extremely manageable and I barely notice it. But in the past, from about ages 13-16 it was unbearable and I was seriously considering suicide jus because I thought I was crazy and had no control over my life. I couldn’t go more than 20 minutes without an obsessive compulsive “ritual”. Everything from flickering lights to re-reading sentences, even words over and over again. I couldn’t write anything without tracing over the letters hundreds of times, with typing I would just delete and write the same thing over a bunch of times. Where it should have taken 20-30 minutes to write a couple pages, it would take me up to like 8 hours. It was bad. That description doesn’t do the severity of it justice.

This may not help much, but here’s what I did. I got off my medication because I personally only got negatives from it. Then each and every time I caught myself getting stuck in a loophole I reminded myself, told myself “this is bullshit. Doing this behavior will NOT stop x thing from happening. This is illogical of me and a waste of my time and energy.” It was hard as fuck at first and I had to force myself to completely walk away from what I was about to do until I was able to keep going and just ignore it. I had to put a massive amount of effort and pure will into defeating this shit. You can too man. I still have tendencies and I know I do certain things from time to time but it’s so uncommon for me now that I’m almost entirely unaware.

Now is to master adhd lmao. Also nice quads checked, it’s a sign man. You’ll fucking make it and I believe in you.

Oh yeah but I’m gonna look out for your thread man! Look forward to it

thanks so much man I've never met anyone with the same disorder, and with such similarities. My kind of OCD is pretty much everything you said but i'm not as bad with typing, I only delete words or sentences every so often when it feels like my fingers hit the keys in a wrong way and I need to re do it hitting the keys perfectly. Hard to explain but you will get it.

I've been kinda suicidal too lately and been feeling crazy and like there's way too much going on in my and it's pretty scary, I've been wondering how I'm going to keep going on like this. I also get involuntary thoughts ( part of the OCD ) which I can't control. It's just horrible images that pop into my head that I really don't want to think of and it stops me sleeping or enjoying things sometimes. But it feels great to see someone with a similar type of OCD being rid of it. The hardest part for me is when I stop myself from doing something like flicking a lightswitch or looking back at something behind me multiple times, I won't be able to sit still or relax because doing that thing will be all that is on my mind and i get really agitated. I guess it just takes a while of discipline before it mellows out. Hopefully this week will fix that, and I'd be really happy if the ADHD is better too

Thread coming next Monday at like mid day UK time. Good shit seeing positive people in this place. I had my doubts before but after your replies I feel like I can do this. Thanks lads!

I want to answer seriously but this isn't a philosophy board

What’s a dopamine fast?

Take some dopamine and inject it fast

Breh, literally in tech school first week post BMT. I feel you my nigga.

a whole week of no food, no watching tv, no internet at all, no fap, no sex, no social activities, no videogames, no phone, no weed/nicotine or any drug? Sounds very tough for me but I hope you make it.

For years I have been thinking about going innawoods and just unplugging for a while.

This
it's not about "cutting dopamine", it's about getting the right kind, the deserved.

>youtuber who makes cartoons for a living tells you that his made up fast helps him
this is worse than nofap

Try doing noporn for a week, not looking at lewds, qts, no tinder or underwear sections of catalogues. Then look at a non-explicit picture of a cute girl. You can noticeably feel the dopamine kick in.

jokes on you I'm already depressed

Nobody here knows because nobody has done it. Update us when you're done.

it's the same as silent meditation retreat go read about that

major meme video my dude. Would stay far away from that

It's not meant to be done for a fucking week
You do realize what it means right?
You sit inside and do nothing. I mean actually literally nothing. You are not allowed to do anything else. It's supposed to be for a 48 hour period at absolute MOST. It's supposed to be a hard reset, not some kind of lifestyle thing

>content creator literally a shill

Reading breaks the dopamine fast dumb retard

>air force

He said he was in the military, flyboy.

What really helped me on the phone front was going hardcore and switching to a flip phone, but there was a radio show I listened to a while back that was all about digital detox and folks getting better by removing all addictive apps from their phones (Facebook, Tinder, Snapchat, etc.).

Also, having a steady girlfriend to fuck on a weekly basis just completely annihilated my urge to fap and look at porn.

I fucking love coffee! When I was in the Navy, coffee was my best friend, but now that I'm a civie again, coffee fucked up my sleep cycle because I just don't need it. So I switched to using my other wakefulness methods. Have a fatty breakfast (like fried eggs), drink plenty of water, and do some kind of exercise to get the blood pumping when you feel drowsy (air-chairs are great for if you're working an office job).

I wish you luck man! I don't have adhd, but I did have digital overload for a long time where I simply couldn't focus on any one thing whenever I had my smartphone or computer around. What really helped was going without internet at home for a month and switching to a flip phone. It forced me to seek other forms of entertainment when at home and turned internet access into a chore. If you can't do that for reasons, try uninstalling all your games and distracting apps for a month. Some folks have great success with that!

Also, I cannot stress the helpfulness of lists. Make a list of chores and finish it! There's something about having a physical list around that just helps so goddamn much!

Dude everything you typed makes perfect sense to me, from hitting a key the wrong way to having to keep looking back at something. Yeah it can be super agitating but it will eventually mellow out. A brisk walk for like 15-20 minutes can sometimes help it too btw.

You actually just helped me with something. I didnt realize intrusive thoughts could come from ocd, and I’ve been having a lot recently. Just understanding that makes it easy for me to start ignoring them better.

You got this though man, don’t allow the ocd to win, crush that shit into the ground and make it your bitch.

How do you develop self discipline through normal means?

Dude, this is my relationship with food once I cut out sugar and processed junk. Once I did that, I could finally experience the subtle flavors of fruits and vegetables in a way that I had lost. Now, I have no problems enjoying an herb salad because I'm not addicted to those super overwhelming tastes that come with high-calorie snacks.

I hear you man! I used to chew through books all day as a kid too. The important thing to remember is that concentration is a muscle that needs to be exercised. Try having a reading schedule where you read five minutes the one day, then six, then seven, etc. Use a timer to keep yourself on track, and eventually you will find yourself reading for an hour or two a day no sweat!

Stay strong dude, we believe in you!

Thanks for sharing your story, bro. I've met a shit ton of people who are convinced that they can't go without their medication and are completely unwilling to try any sort of self-therapy to help themselves. I truly enjoy hearing about people who overcome their problems with determination and willpower!

Looking for advice:
How detrimental would it be to dopamine fasting to still do relationship stuff, including sex and talking? Also, would it be detrimental to do creative stuff? I'd definitely spend more time writing than reading given a chance
